How to sew a hammock?
To make a two-tier hammock, you should prepare the following materials:
- Fleece of good quality and density, size 1.5m*0.6m.
- A piece of thin filler 1.5m*0.3cm.
- Edge tape for finishing products.
- Thick thread and needle.
- Fabric scissors.
Let's get to work. Fold the canvas into 2 parts and cut it lengthwise. Then fold the resulting parts in half, but do not cut them. Use all the parts as you need to make 2 floors. The piece of fabric on top should be reduced by 10-13 cm.
- Attach the resulting 2 blanks to the padding polyester and cut to size.
- Now insert the padding polyester into the fabric and sew it with a machine or by hand.
- Use edging tape to trim the edges.
- Mark the fastener locations with a pencil and sew them in.
- You can decorate it at your discretion and imagination.
- Hang the hammock from the roof of the cage.
The hammock for relaxing and playing is ready.
To work you should take:
- Thick denim measuring 1.5 m * 0.3 cm, or any worn jeans, cutting off a piece of one pant leg 0.3 cm high.

If you are using ready-made fabric, then follow all the same steps as when sewing a two-tier hammock. However, you should not stitch 3*3 because the fabric is already quite dense.
If you use old jeans when sewing, you should:
- Cut a 30 cm cylindrical piece from the jeans.
- Treat the resulting cylinder top and bottom with tape to avoid shedding.
- Position the fastening points so that when fastening the base is slightly higher than the top part (for convenience, it is better to place fasteners at a distance of 5–8 cm).
- Using embroidery, applique, large buttons, decorate the hammock as you like.
- Attach the hammock securely to the top of the cage using metal clips, which can be purchased in the hardware department of a fabric store. But you can also use thick metal chains, hooks, thick elastic bands or laces as fasteners. However, it is worth considering that chinchillas have strong teeth and claws, with which they can chew off and damage fabric fasteners, so it is better to choose metal fasteners. The height at which the structure should be suspended depends on the size of the cage. The main condition is that the rodent can easily climb there.

- A 30-centimeter piece of fleece or a material similar in density, its width should be about one and a half meters;
- satin ribbons 2 cm wide. You will use them to finish the product.
Why fleece fabric? The fact is that fleece is a soft, pleasant and elastic material. Plus, it will be easy to clean. It saves the owner’s time due to the fact that it can be washed in a washing machine. Regardless of the type of washing, the hammock will always look like new.

- With one tier, without a roof.

The second option is better and more convenient because the chinchilla can use the hammock in different ways. If she is cold, the animal can hide inside and warm up or just hide, because they love that. If the chinchilla feels normal, is warm and, in her opinion, is not in danger, then she can rest on the second tier.
Each tier should have two layers. To prevent the material from being deformed, it should be stitched in the form of a mesh measuring 3x3 cm. The second tier should always be 10-15 cm narrower than the bottom one. On average, the width of the top floor is 20-30 cm, and the bottom one is about 45 cm.

If you have a sewing machine, use it. If not, then take a needle and thread. You need to grind off the side cuts of 2 tiers of the product. The result will be a tube-shaped hole.
A satin ribbon that can be used to trim the edges of the “swing” will help prevent the fabric for the hammock from stretching. It is necessary to create an entrance hole through which the animal can climb. When trimming the sections, you need to gather the fabric, as it is elastic; if this is not done, the edges will be uneven. The second side is processed according to the same principle.
The satin ribbon will also serve to cover the connecting seams. It folds into a loop, which will later serve as fastenings. The good thing about using a satin ribbon as a fastening is that it is durable and will not allow the chinchilla to fall out of the hammock.
Next, the hammock is turned inside out and the longitudinal sections are processed with tape by stitching on both sides.
