Composition and features
Forvet is a medicine that has pronounced immunostimulating and antiviral properties. Available in the form of an injection solution and eye drops. The composition of these dosage forms of the drug is almost identical, but the differences lie in the features of application and purpose (used for the treatment and prevention of various diseases).
The basis of the drug is the Panavir complex. This is an extract of potato shoots that has been pre-cleaned. It contains various polysaccharides. You can find a complete list of them in the instructions for use. Sodium chloride and purified water are additional components that perform only an auxiliary function. The eye drops also contain nipagin.
The solution for injection is packaged in glass ampoules or vials. They come in different volumes (from 1 ml), so it’s easy to choose a package of the appropriate size depending on the weight of the animal and the duration of use.
Important! There are no special requirements for storing the medicine, but after opening the bottle it can only be used for 2 weeks.
Eye drops are packaged in polymer bottles. They are equipped with a dropper, which makes using the product simple and convenient. Bottles of 5 and 10 ml are available for sale. For puppies and small animals, you should choose a smaller package, but for medium and large dogs it is better to purchase a large bottle.
Description of the drug Forvet
The veterinary drug is a successful development of domestic pharmacology and is made on the basis of the well-known “human” drug Panavir. The authorship of Forvet belongs to scientists from the National Research Company LLC, who patented Panavir, the active ingredient of both the drug of the same name and its derivative veterinary Forvet.
Forvet is a veterinary analogue of the human drug Panavir
That is, this is the rare case when a medicinal drug for your pets has previously passed successful tests... on humans.
Compound
The developers were able to adapt the complex of polysaccharides on which the Panavir formula is based to the specific features of use in veterinary medicine. These valuable substances are contained in an extract from young potato sprouts, which, in fact, is panavir. From a chemical point of view, Panavir is a complex molecule consisting of many simple carbohydrates:
- arabinose;
- galactose;
- glucose;
- xyloses;
- mannose;
- rhamnose;
- uronic acids.
In addition to these effectively working compounds, the composition of injection Forvet also includes auxiliary components: water for injection and sodium chloride. Forvet eye drops have a similar composition, but they contain an additional component - the amino acid taurine. The purpose of this component is based on its ability to quickly restore eye tissue damaged by infection.
Forvet drops contain the tissue-restoring substance taurine
The uniqueness of Forvet is that it is the first veterinary drug whose composition is based on an extract from potato sprouts - a special class of polysaccharide.
Release form
In veterinary pharmacies you can purchase two ready-to-use dosage forms of Forvet: injection solution and eye drops. Forveta sterile injection solution is a clear or slightly cloudy liquid, colorless or having a barely noticeable brownish tint. The drug is packaged in 1, 2, 5 ml glass ampoules or 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 ml in neutral glass bottles of appropriate capacity.
The injection solution is conveniently packaged in ampoules and vials
Forvet eye drops are produced in plastic bottles packed in cardboard boxes with a volume of 10 milliliters. Each bottle is equipped with an individual dropper and sealed with a screw cap.
All forms of release of Forvet must be accompanied by detailed instructions. The packaging is marked with information about the release date and shelf life of the medicinal product.
Mechanism of action
The immunomodulatory effect of Forvet is explained by its ability to accelerate the synthesis of interferons - special proteins that protect the cell from viral aggression. As a result, the level of leukocytes and immune “killer” cells increases, and the viruses that cause the disease are suppressed and destroyed at all stages of their development. Self-regulation mechanisms begin to work purposefully and effectively, recovery and recovery occurs faster.
As a rule, in weakened and aged animals, as well as in small kittens, the own production of feline interferons is insufficient. Preparations containing these active substances and can replenish their reserves in a cat, unfortunately, are poorly absorbed by the animal’s body and produce many unwanted side effects. Forvet perfectly solves this problem by stimulating the cat’s body to independently produce interferons, which are not rejected, but immediately begin to work as intended.
Forvet stimulates the synthesis of interferons
The condition of a sick animal usually improves after the first injection, but it is very important to complete the entire course without violating the regimen prescribed by the doctor. Otherwise, the effectiveness of treatment may be significantly reduced.
Indications for use and treatment regimens
Forvet demonstrates in practice excellent results in various fields of veterinary medicine, acting at the cellular level and providing a complex beneficial effect on the animal’s body:
- increases immunity and mobilizes defense mechanisms;
- fights viral infections;
- stimulates metabolic processes;
- accelerates tissue regeneration;
- reduces rehabilitation time;
- eliminates complications after injuries and operations;
- relieves nervous system disorders.
Forvet is especially effective for the treatment and prevention of such specific diseases:
- adenovirus;
- atopic dermatitis;
- hepatitis;
- dermatophytosis;
- eye infections;
- calicivirus;
- rhinotracheitis;
- plague;
- enteritis.
Forvet better cures atopic dermatitis in cats
The use of the drug also promotes the rapid healing of old wounds and the general restoration of the animal’s physical and psychological shape after illness, surgery and stress. The mild sedative effect of Forvet helps prepare pets for transportation, travel, participation in exhibitions, change of place of residence and other important events that can negatively affect their nervous system.

Operating principle
Forvet is an immunostimulant of plant origin. The high effectiveness of the drug is achieved due to the fact that the active substance has a complex effect on the animal’s body:
- has a pronounced cytoprotective effect, which ensures protection of healthy cells from harmful influences;
- enhances the production of interferon (a protein that is produced in response to infection);
- inhibits the process of viral infection propagation by breaking DNA bonds;
- increases the viability of infected cells.
The drug also has the following effect:
- increases the body's resistance to various unfavorable factors;
- increases cellular immunity;
- improves metabolic processes;
- destroys viruses of various types.
At the same time, Forvet belongs to low-hazardous substances. It does not cause locally irritating reactions, does not have a negative effect on the development of the fetus, and does not provoke the appearance of mutations.
Pharmacological properties
The medicinal effect of the drug is due to the polysaccharide complex Panavir. The medication has the following pharmacological properties:
- increases the defenses of the animal's body;
- stimulates the production of interferon, a protein synthesized in response to viral invasion;
- suppresses the activity of viruses, which leads to their death;
- promotes the survival of infected cells;
- starts regeneration processes and helps the animal recover after illnesses or injuries (surgeries);
- accelerates the healing process of wounds and prevents the occurrence of complications, including swelling and purulent inflammation;
- improves metabolic processes.
As a result of using the medicine, the cat’s body becomes resistant to viral infections, as well as the negative effects of external factors, including stress. At the same time, the drug does not have a carcinogenic effect on the body and is considered a safe immunostimulating agent for animals.
Forvet for cats is considered safe, but before use, consult a doctor and read the instructions for use to achieve the greatest effect.
Indications for use
According to the instructions for use, Forvet for dogs can be used in the fight against dangerous infectious diseases:
- plague;
- hepatitis of infectious origin;
- parvovirus hepatitis;
- adenoviral infections, etc.
The drug is used for skin pathologies and wounds that do not heal over a long period. It is prescribed to animals in the following cases:
- for the prevention of pathologies caused by viral infections;
- to prevent complications after vaccination;
- for the treatment or prevention of complications after operations and serious injuries;
- to prevent behavioral disorders during stress (a trip to the veterinarian, visiting an exhibition, the arrival of guests, etc.).
Forvet drops are prescribed to dogs for infectious eye diseases:
- with ulcerative keratitis;
- for conjunctivitis, including purulent ones;
- with septic ulcer of the cornea;
- with corneal erosion, etc.
Eye drops are usually used in combination with other medications to increase the animal's defenses and resistance to infections, as well as accelerate the regeneration processes of eye tissue.
How is it used?
The use of an immunostimulant depends on the form of release and whether it is used for prevention or treatment.
Injection
The instructions indicate that Forvet injections are given to dogs intravenously, intramuscularly or subcutaneously. When using the medicine for prophylactic purposes, adhere to the following doses:
- for puppies – 0.5 ml;
- for animals weighing 1-10 kg – 1 ml;
- for dogs weighing from 10 to 30 kg – 2.5 ml;
- for pets weighing more than 30 kg – 5 ml.
Injections are given twice with an interval of 1-2 days. The same regimen is used for vaccination or preventing the consequences of stressful situations.
If Forvet is used for medicinal purposes, the regimen and dose depend on the disease:
- For plague, infectious hepatitis and viral pathologies, the medication is administered once a day, following doses as for prophylaxis. The duration of treatment is from 5 to 10 days. In some cases, the course may be increased by the veterinarian.
- If the medicine is used to treat atopic dermatitis or inflammatory processes of the skin, to accelerate wound healing, it is administered for 7-10 days daily. In this case, the dose is calculated as follows: 1 ml of solution per 10 kg of weight.
To prevent complications after surgery and speed up the rehabilitation period, two injections are given: one the day before surgery, the second the day after surgery. The dose is calculated according to the standard scheme (as for prophylaxis).
Eye drops
Eye drops are instilled into the conjunctival sac, one drop at a time. The procedure is repeated 4-5 times during the day, and the duration of treatment ranges from 7 to 30 days. For advanced diseases or pathologies that occur in severe forms, eye drops are used in conjunction with Forvet injections.
Important! During treatment, the immunostimulant performs only an auxiliary function - it increases the body’s resistance to infections, therefore it is used only in combination with other drugs. The main treatment is selected by the doctor, taking into account the pathology, symptoms, and characteristics of the course.

Owner reviews
Antonina, Chihahua owner:
“Due to the fact that I often have to go on business trips, the dog travels with me, but she tolerates it very poorly. After being transported by car or bus, her behavior completely changes, to the point where she starts eating polyethylene and becomes aggressive. Eczema appears on the stomach. On the advice of the veterinarian, we started using Forvet. The first time it was used to treat the effects of stress, the subsequent times it was used for prevention and the result is always amazing.”
Nina, owner of a smooth-haired French shepherd:
“We used the drug for adenovirus. I was amazed by the efficiency. The weakness and fever did not go away even after the main treatment was prescribed, but after the first injection of Forvet the dog felt better. Previously, I was distrustful of Russian medicines, but this drug managed to change my opinion. Our producers can do good things if they want.”
Reviews
Konstantin, 44 years old, veterinarian, Velikiye Luki:
“I would like to give some advice as a long-time practicing veterinarian.
Support your dog's immune system with fresh foods, adequate (not necessarily strenuous) exercise, and massage. Take any health problems with your pet as a sign that you need to take steps to improve his immune system.
I recommend Forvet. An excellent immunostimulant, non-toxic, painless when injected, well tolerated by animals. Just don't overdo it! Always check with your doctor to see if your dog's immune 'memory' needs improvement."
