How and why do veterinarians use Fosprenil, for what viral diseases?

If your pets are sick, you want not only to help them, but also not to harm them, so preference is given to natural medications. For example, Fosprenil has proven itself well in the fight against viruses. It promotes faster recovery and also improves immunity. There are analogues of Fosprenil for animals, with a different composition, but also natural. They are used if there is an allergy to the immunomodulator or it is not available.

What is Fosprenil?

The active ingredient of the drug is disodium salt of polyprenols phosphate. It is obtained from pine needles, which determines the natural origin of the medicine. It is produced in 10 ml bottles, inside of which there is a clear liquid (may have a slight yellow tint). The product comes to veterinary pharmacies in packs of 5 bottles. If necessary, they can be purchased individually.

The medicine must be stored in a cool place (preferably in the refrigerator in summer), no more than 1 year from the date of release.

Analogues of the drug

A veterinary therapeutic and prophylactic drug with immunomodulatory properties, based on an extract from coniferous trees, Fosprenil has no domestic or imported analogues

. The drug Gamapren, obtained from mulberry leaves, has a similar effect.

Similar action

The veterinary drug Fosprinil has the drug Fortepren, produced for humans by the pharmaceutical industry.

Recently, dog owners who have encountered infectious diseases in their pets have begun to talk more often about Fosprenil. Many claim that the symptoms of the disease disappear very quickly as soon as the drug is introduced into the treatment regimen. What do you think about this and how realistically can it be cured? We would appreciate your feedback at the bottom of the article.

One of the time-tested remedies that has pronounced antiviral activity is fosprenil for dogs. This drug is recommended for use at the first signs of the disease, when its properties are most pronounced. The great advantage of fosprenil is that it can be used in the treatment of dogs of different ages.

, it does not have toxic or allergenic properties.

Fosprenil is produced in Russia; in addition to the official name, the drug has a non-proprietary international name: disodium salt of polyprenols phosphate. This is the main active ingredient of fosprenil, which has the ability to increase the bactericidal activity of blood serum and increase the body's resistance to viruses. In addition to disodium salt of polyprenols phosphate, the medicine contains water for injection, glycerin, ethanol and Tween-80.

Fosprenil is available in the form of an injection solution that has a clear or slightly yellowish color, without a pronounced odor or taste. The presence of any inclusions, sediment or flakes is not allowed. The solution is packaged in glass bottles with a capacity of 10 milliliters or bottles with a capacity of 50 milliliters.

When and how is Fosprenil used?

The veterinary remedy can be used both for the prevention and treatment of viral infections of domestic animals, in particular cats, rabbits and even birds. It relieves inflammation and speeds up recovery. In addition, Fosprenil increases immunity and protects tailed pets in contact with sick individuals.

Fosprenil can be used for the prevention and treatment of:

  • plague;
  • herpes;
  • calcivirosis;
  • viral rhinotracheitis and other viral infections;
  • food poisoning.

The drug can be given simultaneously with antihistamines and antibiotics. However, it cannot be combined with hormones and steroids.

Fosprenil is mainly used for intramuscular injections (0.2 mg per 1 kg weight). Drops into the eyes and sometimes oral use are also allowed. The course of treatment is 7 days (in especially severe cases, it can be extended to 2 weeks).

When to use

The instructions indicate that Fosprenil is used for dogs with the following pathologies:

  • plague of carnivores (distemper);
  • infectious hepatitis;
  • rhinotracheitis;
  • infectious peritonitis;
  • viral enteritis;
  • viral adenoviruses;
  • other infectious diseases.

A sterile solution can be given to pets in various ways:

  • intramuscularly;
  • subcutaneously;
  • intravenously;
  • orally.

Fosprenil can be used to wash the eyes and nose, but in this case it is diluted with clean water in a 1:1 ratio. To make the medication more effective, intramuscular injections are given. Preference is given to injections into a vein in severe cases of the disease to achieve maximum rapid effect.

Doses and treatment regimens

The dosage of Fosprenil for dogs is calculated taking into account the weight of the animal - 0.1 ml per 1 kg of weight. For severe pathologies, the dose is doubled. If it is necessary to administer a large volume of medication, it is recommended to do this in several places. When administered orally, the dose is doubled.

The treatment regimen may vary depending on the pathology:

  1. If an animal is diagnosed with infectious peritonitis or plague and the disease is severe, the first two days the drug is administered 4 times a day (every 6 hours), then for a week - 3 times a day with an interval of 8 hours. Then two injections are given for two days and one for another two days. The regimen is followed even if the symptoms have disappeared.
  2. In case of moderate severity of plague, as well as hepatitis, enteritis, on the first day the animal is given 4 injections with an interval of 6 hours. Then for a week the injections are given three times a day, then another two days with 2 injections and two days with 1.
  3. If infectious diseases are mild, the animal is given three doses on the first day. On the second day, 2 doses with an interval of 12 hours are enough, on the third – 1 dose. The duration of treatment can be increased to 5-7 days depending on the condition of the pet.
  4. For plague, the duration of treatment is at least 14 days, regardless of the condition of the animal.

Features of application

The treatment regimen can be changed by the doctor depending on the condition of the dog, the characteristics of the body and the symptoms present. To achieve the fastest possible therapeutic effect and avoid possible complications, Fosprenil is combined with antibacterial and antihistamine drugs, as well as drugs whose action is aimed at detoxification, restoration of water-salt balance and elimination of symptoms. To enhance the therapeutic effect, it is combined with interferon, but additional use of immunostimulating agents is usually not required.

To prevent infectious diseases, the medication is given to animals once. In this case, the dosage remains the same as during treatment. Preventive measures are carried out in the following cases:

  • during epidemic outbreaks;
  • when traveling to a region with a high danger threshold;
  • upon contact with sick animals.

To enhance immunity during vaccination, the medicine is also administered once in the doses given above. For revaccination, the use of medication is not required. The drug is administered together with the vaccine, but in different places.

It is not recommended to skip taking the medicine. This inevitably leads to a decrease in its effectiveness. If a timely dose is missed, the dog should be given the medicine as soon as possible, and then return to the current treatment regimen.

Despite the fact that Fosprenil is considered a safe medicine, it should not be used without consulting a doctor. In addition, its use is most effective in complex treatment, which should only be prescribed by a veterinarian.

Fosprenil analogues for animals

In general, the drug is not an expensive wonder - its price is quite affordable. You can buy this medicine at any veterinary pharmacy. But in some cases, animals may experience an allergic reaction. Then you can replace Fosprenil with another drug with a similar effect. It could be:

  1. Maxidin.

  2. Gamavit.

  3. Forvet.

Features of the use of the drug Fosprenil

In most cases, the drug is used to destroy various types of viral infections. In addition, its components activate the protective function of the livestock immune system.

Instructions for use of Fosprenil show that through the bloodstream the active substance of the drug enters:

  • liver;
  • spleen;
  • reproductive organs.

During the first 3 hours, its concentration in the body reaches its maximum. The therapeutic effect of the modulator can be observed for 10-16 hours after injection. Chemical compounds are eliminated from the body through urine and feces.

No side effects of Fosprenil were noticed. If you administer it in strictly prescribed dosages, there will be no allergic reactions.

However, after injection, animals experience:

  • lethargy;
  • lack of appetite;
  • temperature increase.

The drug should not be used in tandem with anti-inflammatory medications created on the basis of hormones produced by the adrenal glands.

The course of treatment begins at the first signs of a viral infection. If complications are observed, the dosage is doubled. Therapy is stopped only if there are no symptoms for 2-3 days.

To get the maximum effect from treatment, it is important to know how to store Fosprenil. For the immunomodulator, choose a dry and dark place, the temperature in which is 4-25˚C

Then the drug can be used for the next 2 years, taking into account the release date.

Properties, principle of operation

Fosprenil belongs to the category of immunomodulators and antiviral drugs.

Fosprenil for cats

Additionally, the composition has an anti-inflammatory effect and helps restore healthy intestinal microflora. The purpose of using the medicine is to activate natural processes in the body.

The veterinary drug enhances the activity of blood plasma and increases the rate of metabolic processes in cells.

With the use of the drug, the number of leukocytes in the blood and phagocytes increases, which allows the body to naturally destroy the pathogen.

Fosprenil prevents the development of complications and is not addictive. After discontinuation of the medication, there is no sharp decrease in immunity and no deterioration in the pet’s condition.

Pharmacology

Fosprenil stimulates the main parameters of the cat’s body that regulate body homeostasis:

  • Increasing the body's natural resistance
  • bactericidal activity of blood serum and phagocytosis
  • Strengthening the humoral immune response in cats to vaccines, thereby increasing the body's specific resistance to infections
  • Reduces the incidence of disease in kittens
  • Activates metabolic processes in cells, tissues and organs
  • Has minor antiviral activity against herpesviruses, orthomyxoviruses, paramyxoviruses, togaviruses, feline coronaviruses
  • Minor hepatoprotective, cardioprotective, and antioxidant properties have been described

Indications for use

The composition is effective against coronavirus, herpesvirus, paramyxovirus, togavirus, and orthomoxovirus.

As a preventive measure, Fosprenil is prescribed to cats that have had contact with a sick animal.

In acute pathologies, the drug is used as an emergency aid, which in a short time allows to stop the progression of the disease.

As a preventive measure, the medicine is prescribed to cats that have had contact with a sick animal.

The main indications for the use of Fosprenil are:

  • panleukopenia (distemper);
  • rhinotracheitis – if it was caused by an infection;
  • calcivirosis;
  • infectious lesions of the abdominal cavity with severe manifestations of intoxication;
  • viral lesions of the respiratory system;
  • food poisoning - the drug is prescribed to relieve inflammation and intoxication.

Before vaccinations, cats may be advised to administer medication to boost the body's immune response. The measure is not always used.

Important! A veterinarian may prescribe a course of Fosprenil if a domestic cat has spent several days outside. The product is needed to prevent the development of the disease if there is a possibility that the animal has been infected with the virus.

Operating principle

The effect of the veterinary treatment and prophylactic drug Fosprenil on the dog’s body is to stimulate the basic parameters of the physiological resistance system

, increasing the bactericidal activity of blood plasma with a clear progression of the phagocytosis process, which leads to an increase in the humoral immune response of the animal’s body to the action of the vaccine.

The effect of the drug is targeted, increasing the body’s immunity and resistance to infection by infectious diseases.

due to accelerated cellular metabolism, due to which the incidence rate is sharply reduced.

According to GOST of the Russian Federation, Fosprenil is classified as “Low hazardous substances, hazard class IV”

and in recommended doses does not cause harm to the animal’s body.

The drug can be used as a prophylactic agent for the purpose of:

  • relief of complications in the period after;
  • increasing the immunity of your pet;
  • preventing infection of animals when visiting exhibitions.

The dog is injected with a prophylactic dose at the time of vaccination, administering the drug simultaneously with different syringes intramuscularly or once administering the drug orally along with a drink. At the time of revaccination, prophylaxis with Fosprenil is not carried out.

Of the side effects

note lethargy and possible slight increase.

Directions for use, dosage for cats

The solution is administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously (using a regular injection syringe), and in exceptional cases orally.

The standard dose of the drug is 0.2 or 0.3 ml per 1 kg of cat weight. The dosage is changed by a veterinarian in cases of a sharp deterioration in the animal’s condition. When giving the composition orally, its dose is increased by 2 times.

The first time the medicine should be administered in a veterinary clinic, as there is a risk of developing anaphylactic shock. When this severe allergic reaction occurs, your cat requires emergency care.

If the drug is tolerated normally, treatment is continued at home. The standard course of therapy is from 3 to 6 days.
In case of severe violations, the period of use of the medicine can be extended by a veterinarian to 14 days.

Fosprenil dosage

The classic dosage of the drug for cats is no more than 0.2-0.3 milliliters per kilogram of animal weight. Increasing the dose is dangerous, as the cat may experience anaphylactic shock or Quincke's edema. Zoo doctors are aware of this side effect, and therefore always have medications available to stop an allergy attack. At home, it is strictly forbidden to exceed the dose!

In some cases, “Fosprenil” is not used as an injection, but is given to the animal (for example, for a cold), then the dose is doubled. The drug is given to the cat five to ten minutes before meals. Acute conditions or severe chronic forms may require the administration of 0.5 milliliters of medication for every kilogram of the cat's body weight.

Fosprenil can be used orally

It is permissible to use Fosprenil in combination with antihistamines and antibiotics. Mixing the medicine with other zoo medications is prohibited.

Negative consequences after taking Fosprenil

The manufacturer reports that during the first two days after the animal first received a dose of Fosprenil, side effects may occur. So, the cat may become drowsy, inactive, and apathetic. In addition, taking Fosprenil can cause disruptions in cardiac function, an increase or decrease in temperature.

As for contraindications, there are none as such, or rather, they have not been confirmed. The cat may suffer from individual intolerance to the main components, and an allergic reaction may also develop. Therefore, when the drug has been administered to the animal, it is better to stay in the clinic for a while in order to quickly prevent an allergy attack if it occurs.

Fosprenil has no specific contraindications

Price of "Fosprenil", analogues

“Maksidin” has a similar effect. The manufacturer of all three drugs is similar, the factories are located in Russia. The cat owner has the right to independently decide which medicine is more convenient and profitable for him to purchase, and can keep them in the pet first aid kit. Even before contacting a veterinarian, it is not forbidden to administer a prophylactic dose of the drug to the animal in order to gain time and prevent the disease from developing.

The drug costs 650-700 rubles

Contraindications and possible side effects

A contraindication for the use of the product is its individual intolerance to animals. When it is detected, Fosprenil is replaced with an analogue that the cat’s body perceives normally.

A contraindication for the use of Fosprenil is individual intolerance to animals.

Acceptable side effects from using the medicine are considered to be a slight increase in body temperature and pulse. Rarely, after the injection, the animal may become drowsy and apathetic. This reaction is also acceptable and does not require treatment. It goes away in a few hours.

Safety and personal hygiene

To carry out therapeutic measures using Fosprenil, it is necessary to use special clothing and personal protective equipment, which include rubber gloves, goggles, a mask or a respirator.

When interacting with Fosprenil, smoking, eating, and drinking are prohibited. After the procedure is completed, you must wash your hands and face well with soap, and it is recommended to rinse your mouth with water.

If you have hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, you must avoid direct contact with it. If the product accidentally gets on the skin or mucous membrane, you should immediately wash off the product with soapy water.

If Fosprenil gets into the human body, you must urgently hospitalize the victim, taking with you the instructions for the product or its label.

The medicine is also packaged in ampoules of 2 ml and 5 ml. The solution is colorless, sometimes with a slight yellowish tint.

The active ingredient in the composition is disodium salt of polyprenols phosphate, obtained from pine needles.
Additional components of the composition: glycerin, ethyl alcohol, polysorbate 80 and water for injection.

What is Fosprenil

Fosprenil is a natural antiviral drug (immunomodulator) that regulates the functioning of the immune system, relieves inflammation, prevents the development of pathogenic microflora in the gastrointestinal tract and prevents the harmful effects of toxins.

The drug is used as a prophylactic and therapeutic agent for viral infections of various etiologies.

In what cases is it advisable to use Fosprenil:

  • food poisoning;
  • infectious peritonitis, enteritis, colitis;
  • upper and lower respiratory tract infections;
  • gastrointestinal pathologies of unknown origin;
  • viral infections (herpes, cat flu, calicivirus, distemper virus and others).

The drug significantly increases the body's resistance to coronaviruses, parvoviruses, orthomyxoviruses, adenoviruses and other pathogens of serious illnesses.

The drug is available in the form of an injection solution. Glass vials are sold in dosages from 2 to 100 ml. Fosprenil is intended for intramuscular or intravenous injection; it is also used to treat the external areas of the eyes and the mucous membranes of the nasal passages. The transparent substance has no color and does not contain mechanical impurities.

Important! The medicinal substance is not available in tablets. Dosage varies depending on the disease and the age of the pet.

It is recommended to consult a veterinarian before use.

Cost and analogues of Fosprenil

The cost of the drug is about 900 rubles per package, which contains 5 bottles of 10 ml each. You can usually buy them individually at veterinary hospitals. The cost of one 10 ml bottle will range from 100 to 150 rubles.

The main analogues of the drug are:

  • Gamavit - the active substance in the composition is placental emulsion;
  • Forvet – the basis of the product is the plant extract Panavir;
  • Maxidin - the active ingredient is BPDH.

The possibility of using a Fosprenil analogue should be assessed by a veterinarian. The owner should not change the instructions without permission.

Advantages and disadvantages of the drug

The advantages of Fosprenil include several factors:

  • accessibility (the medicine can be bought at almost any veterinary pharmacy);
  • low price (from 140 rubles per 10 ml bottle);
  • no contraindications (except allergies);
  • low risk of side effects;
  • Fosprenil does not contain toxic substances.

The disadvantage of this immunomodulator is its unproven effectiveness (or its low degree). There is currently no scientific evidence that the drug actually affects the course of treatment, for example, for viral infections. All conclusions about the drug are made only on the basis of the experience and practice of those people who used it. In addition, Fosprenil is most often used in combination with other medications, so even successful treatment may be due to them.

After talking with the seller from the nearest veterinary pharmacy, I came to the conclusion that Fosprenil may also have counterfeits. Of course, the pharmacist didn't tell me how to identify them. Only one thing is clear: you need to carefully study the packaging, and it is better to buy 10 ml bottles immediately in a box, and not individually. By the way, if the veterinary pharmacy did not offer you several different packaging options at once, then there is a great chance of buying real Fosprenil.

One of the disadvantages of Fosprenil is the likelihood of “running into” a fake

Composition and properties

Fosprenil contains the following substances:

  1. The main active ingredient is disodium salt of polyprenols phosphate (this substance is obtained from coniferous trees).
  2. Excipients: polysorbate-80, distilled water, ethyl alcohol and glycerin.

The medicinal properties of Fosprenil are as follows:

Pharmacological properties

It affects paramyxo-, orthomyxo-, toga-, herpes-, corona- and some other types of viruses.

  1. The best effect is achieved by etiotropic therapy in the initial period, so use should be started when the first symptoms appear:
  • viral epidemiology requires the use of pathogenetic therapy;
  • in complicated forms, a dosage doubled is allowed;
  • the main course is stopped on the 2-3rd day of absence of symptoms of the disease.
  1. During the therapeutic effect, the process of activating metabolism at the cellular level occurs, BASK and phagocytosis are stimulated, and the immune response to the vaccine is enhanced.

In prosperous farms, only disinfection with Fosprenil is necessary to increase the profitability of fattening young animals.

Instructions for use

Instructions for using Fosprenil look like this:

  1. The medicine is administered intramuscularly. The drug can also be administered orally, but this is done only in exceptional cases.

  6. The price of the medicine is 600-650 rubles per 50 milliliters of medicine.

Fosprenil for cats dosage

To ensure proper use of the product, each package contains not only a bottle of medication, but also instructions for its correct use. This drug, intended for the prevention and treatment of diseases in cats, is used strictly depending on what symptoms of the disease appear in the animal. The veterinarian also decides on the issue of prescribing other drugs to directly combat the disease that has arisen, as well as using Fosprenil for cats as an additional immunostimulant.

The instructions contain general average statistical data on the dosage of the drug when taken. It should be borne in mind that for rectal and intravenous administration, the dose must be halved. Conversely, subcutaneous, oral or intramuscular administration requires doubling the dose.

This drug is also suitable for performing manipulations to rinse the nasal sinuses and eyes of animals.

In the presence of mild and moderate forms of viral infections, the following scheme is used for intramuscular administration of Fosprenil: 0.2 mg of the drug per kilogram of animal body weight. The daily dose ranges from 0.6 mg to 0.8 mg per kilogram of cat weight.

In the presence of severe forms of disease, single doses are doubled or more as prescribed by a veterinarian.

Stop taking the medication three days after the main symptoms of the disease disappear.

Contraindications and side effects

Fosprenil for cats combines well with other medications with the exception of steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and glucocorticoid hormones.

The medicine has no other contraindications, except in cases where the cat has an individual intolerance to some components of the medicine.

Therefore, you should consult your veterinarian before using this drug.

The side effects of Fosprenil are as follows:

  1. Slight increase in temperature.
  2. Drowsiness and apathy.
  3. Cardiopalmus.

Application cases

  • Food poisoning . Unfortunately, domestic cats are not immune to infection. Even a single use of stale canned cat food can lead to irreparable consequences. Fosprenil helps prevent severe intoxication of the body, prevents the harmful effects of toxic substances, and prevents them from being absorbed into the blood.
  • Respiratory tract infections . In the case of sudden onset pneumonia or bronchitis, Fosprenil can cope perfectly. The drug has a strong antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect. Timely assistance can save the animal's life.
  • Viral infections . Fosprenil can be used for cat flu or when the distemper virus is detected. In many situations that often seem hopeless, the drug will help save your pet’s life.
  • Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract . Fosprenil can be given to cats if there are any abnormalities in the functioning of the intestines or stomach. So, even with severe enteritis, colitis or peritonitis, the drug can have a pronounced therapeutic effect.

Fosprenil is used in agricultural animals, domestic animals, fur-bearing animals and poultry to stimulate nonspecific resistance, for the prevention and treatment of viral infections, enhancing the immune response to vaccine administration, reducing morbidity and increasing weight gain in animals and poultry.

9. A contraindication to the use of the drug is the increased individual sensitivity of animals and birds to the components of Fosprenil.

10. Fosprenil is administered intramuscularly, subcutaneously, intravenously or orally. If necessary, the drug can be used to wash the mucous membrane of the eye and nasal cavity of a sick animal. Treatment with Fosprenil should be started as early as possible after the onset of clinical signs of the disease. Therapy is most effective in the prodromal period. For viral infections, it is necessary to combine Fosprenil with symptomatic and pathogenetic therapy, especially in severe and complicated forms of infections. In severe cases of the disease, it is recommended to double the therapeutic dose of Fosprenil. Treatment is stopped 2-3 days after the main symptoms of the disease disappear. If necessary, repeated courses of treatment may be prescribed. When treating viral infections of small domestic animals, Fosprenil is prescribed for 5-7 days in the doses (cm3/kg) indicated in Table I.

pharmachologic effect

Fosprenil is a universal antiviral drug that can effectively destroy parvovirus, coronavirus, adenovirus, canine distemper, and other infections.
Its positive effect is manifested in reducing inflammation, providing a hepatoprotective effect, and reducing toxic manifestations in the body. When prescribed for preventive purposes, the drug helps maintain high immunity, making the body more resistant to infections by increasing antibodies in the blood and phagocytes. Fosprenil is often included in complex therapy. The positive effect on cats manifests itself in the form of improved metabolism. The manufacturer positions it as a low-hazard substance, which belongs to the fourth class according to GOST 12.1,007−1976.

If you follow the instructions in the instructions during use, the absence of irritating, toxic and allergic effects from the drug on the walls of the intestines and stomach is guaranteed. Instructions for using Fosprenil for cats or dogs can be given by a veterinarian.

In what cases is it recommended to use Fosprenil for prevention?

The medicine can also be used as a preventative measure, for example, if your cat has been in contact with a sick animal for some time. To prevent the development of a viral infection after such contact, it is enough to inject the individual with 0.8 ml of the drug intramuscularly.

Another reason for preventive vaccinations is the cat being outdoors. If your pet goes on frequent walks, it is also recommended to give him such injections annually.

Immunocompromised cats often develop illnesses even when kept entirely indoors. Why is this happening? Such animals get infected from their owners' shoes or simply by walking on the balcony. In order to prevent such a situation, your pet can also be given a preventive vaccination, which will increase the immune system’s resistance to viral diseases.

Finally, another case where Fosprenil can be used is for sensitive events that involve visiting sensitive locations. If you and your pet often visit exhibitions where there are many other cats - potential carriers of infection, Fosprenil can become your faithful assistant.

Thus, Fosprenil is an effective antiviral drug that not only prevents the proliferation of pathogenic microorganisms, but also has a beneficial effect on the state of the immune system. Due to its attractive price and minimal side effects, this medication has been successfully used in veterinary medicine for many years to treat cats, regardless of their age and health condition. You can also try this solution on your pet, but before using it, it is recommended to consult an experienced veterinarian to determine the optimal dosage.

Fosprenil for dogs is a very broad-spectrum antiviral drug against enveloped viruses. These are paramyxoviruses, togaviruses, orthomyxoviruses, parvoviruses, enteroviruses, calciviruses and a number of other animal viruses.

The main component of the drug is disodium salt of polyprenols phosphate, since it is a product of phosphorylation of substances of pine needles polyprenols. The medicine is a detoxicant and hepatoprotector, simulating the functioning of the natural resistance system.

Thus, it acquires anti-inflammatory activity.

I breed Chihuahuas and the first two litters did not tolerate the first vaccination very well. Two kids even died. Therefore, the veterinarian prescribed us fosprenil to create an adequate immune response during vaccination. We administer it two days before vaccination and children are protected from over-reception of the vaccine.

This drug simply saved my dog from distemper. It’s good that they recognized it in time and immediately treated it with loading doses. Now my dog has virtually no consequences. It is good that it allows the parallel use of antibiotics and other symptomatic therapy.

How to give

Fosprinil can be administered to dogs:

  • by ingestion (orally);
  • by instillation (for example, for a runny nose, into the nose);
  • intramuscular and intravenous injections.

A veterinarian must prescribe a treatment regimen for your dog.

To administer Fosprenil orally, you need to pull back part of your pet's lip and slowly pour the drug into the cheek. In this case, either a special introducer syringe or a disposable syringe without a needle is used. When taken orally, the single dose of Fosprenil is doubled.

If it is necessary to apply Fosprenil to the dog's eyes or nose, use a pipette washed in warm water. Fosprenil is diluted 3 times with saline and pipetted.

Then you need to pull back the lower eyelid with one hand and press the pipette cap with the other. It is necessary to bury it closer to the inner corner of the eye. Excess medication that comes out of the eye is wiped with a cotton swab or napkin.

An intramuscular injection (into the thigh or shoulder muscle) is given with a sterile syringe selected depending on the size of the dog and the dosage of the medication.

When carrying out medical procedures using Fosprenil, it is necessary to use:

  1. medical gloves;
  2. protective glasses;
  3. respirator (mask).

Attention! To prevent infection, do not touch the syringe needle with your hands, and do not touch anything other than the dog’s skin with the needle!

How to give an injection?

Fosprenil must be warmed in your hands to 37 degrees and the syringe filled with the required dosage, making sure that no air gets into it.

You need to start administering the injection after making sure that the injection site is not inflamed or damaged and that the dog is relaxed. If the muscles are tense, you need to first calm the pet, for example, by massaging it. Skin treatment before injection is not required, since dogs are protected from the penetration of bacteria inside by a dense skin layer.

The injection for dogs up to 10 kg is made at a depth of 1-1.5 cm. For larger pets, the needle insertion depth increases to 3.5 cm. The syringe is positioned perpendicularly to better achieve the goal.

Important! When changing the needle, it is necessary to remove air from it. To do this, you need to press the piston before a drop appears from the needle hole.

The appearance of a small amount of blood after injecting a dog does not pose a threat. A 20-minute cold compress will help stop heavy bleeding. As a last resort, if the compress does not help, you should contact your veterinarian to prescribe hemostatic drugs.
