Use of the drug Fungin Forte for the treatment of skin diseases in cats

Composition and release form

The drug is a liquid whose color is usually light or dark yellow. It is packaged in glass or polymer bottles. Their volume can vary - from 10 to 50 ml. Polymer packages can be equipped with a spray head. The spray is considered more convenient to use, especially when the epidermis is damaged in large areas, but the composition of the medicinal solution remains unchanged.

High efficiency is ensured by a complex of active components. Fungin Forte contains:

  • terbinafine;
  • dexamethasone;
  • metronidazole;
  • lidocaine.

Auxiliary components are:

  • polyethylene glycol;
  • benzyl alcohol;
  • dimethyl sulfoxide;
  • orange terpene.

Compound

The medicine was developed by the Moscow company Api-San in 2015. It is considered an effective antifungal agent for the treatment of skin pathologies in pets. Spray "Fungin Forte" has a more advanced formula than just "Fungin", made by the same company before.

One milliliter of the drug contains the following active ingredients:

  • 10 mg terbinafine hydrochloride;
  • 10 mg thiabendazole;
  • 10 mg metronidazole;
  • 50 mg lidocaine hydrochloride;
  • 1 mg dexamethasone sodium phosphate.

In addition, the medicine contains the following auxiliary components:

  • 10% propolis tincture – 50 mg;
  • dimethyl sulfoxide – 100 mg;
  • orange terpene – 5 mg;
  • benzyl alcohol – 300 mg;
  • polyethylene glycol-400 - up to 1 milliliter.

Pharmacological properties

The main advantage of the drug is its wide spectrum of action, which is determined by the active components. It is effective in destroying fungi of various types, helps restore skin and hair, which usually falls out in places where the disease develops.

Each of the active components has its own effect:

  1. Terbinafine has antifungal properties. The principle of its action is to block the enzyme necessary for the life and development of fungi. The absence of the enzyme leads to their rapid death. The substance practically does not penetrate into the bloodstream, but can accumulate in the sebaceous glands and hair follicles.
  2. Thiabendazole has pronounced fungicidal (antifungal) properties. It not only contributes to the disruption of metabolic processes in fungi, which leads to death, but also destroys the reproductive ability, due to which they cannot reproduce.
  3. Metronidazole has an antibacterial effect. It is effective even against the simplest microorganisms, which can pose a serious danger to animals and people.
  4. Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticosteroid that has a broad spectrum of action. Suppresses inflammatory processes, has immunosuppressive, antiallergic and antitoxic effects.
  5. Lidocaine reduces pain by suppressing the sensitivity of nerve endings.

The medicine promotes wound healing and hair restoration, as it triggers regenerative processes.

Indications for use

Fungin Forte is prescribed for cats in the treatment of the following pathologies:

  • trichophytosis;
  • seborrheic dermatitis;
  • eczema of fungal etiology;
  • ringworm;
  • other fungal skin diseases.

The drug can be used only after a diagnosis has been made. If you have symptoms of a fungal infection, you should consult a doctor and get tested. Do not try to self-medicate. And remember that fungal diseases can be transmitted to humans.

Instructions for use

When using Fungin Forte for cats, be sure to follow the instructions for use. You need to do the following:

  1. Provide maximum access to the skin. Trim the fur if necessary.
  2. If you are using a spray, spray it on the areas where the fungus is located. If you use liquid, apply it to the epidermis using a cotton-gauze swab. Apply the product in a thin layer.
  3. When applying the medicine, also cover the healthy area around the affected area (step back 1 cm from the edge). This will help prevent further spread of the disease.
  4. Rub the medication into the skin with light movements.

The procedure must be repeated 1-2 times a day, depending on the degree of infection and the severity of the disease. The drug should be used until the clinical signs of the pathology completely disappear, but not more than 15 days. After the course of treatment, you should definitely submit scrapings for research to confirm the absence of fungi.

With severe development of the disease, Fungin Forte can be used in combination with other medications. They should be prescribed exclusively by a doctor.

Pharmacological properties

Fungin Forte belongs to combined antimicrobial drugs. Terbinafine is an antifungal agent of the allylamine group, active against pathogens of animal dermatomycosis. The mechanism of action is to inhibit squalene epoxidase in the cell membrane of the fungus. This leads to ergosterol deficiency and intracellular accumulation of squalene, which causes the death of the pathogen cell. Depending on the concentration, terbinafine exhibits a fungicidal or fungistatic effect.

Due to its high lipophilicity, terbinafine molecules accumulate in the stratum corneum of the dermis, hair follicles, and sebaceous glands; When applied topically, the drug penetrates into the systemic circulation to a small extent.

Thiabendazole is a fungicide from the azole class. Active against pathogens of trichophytosis and microsporia of animal genera Trichophyton, Microsporum, Epidermophyton, Achorion. Like other azoles, it blocks the activity of enzymes involved in 14-demethylation of lanosterol, which leads to disruption of ergosterol synthesis. A change in the structure of the cytoplasmic membrane of fungal cells leads to a disruption of its permeability, the release of biologically active substances from the cell and the destruction of the cell wall. In addition, thiabendazole disrupts the process of nuclear division and inhibits the reproductive ability of fungi.

Metronidazole is a drug from the group of nitroimidazoles. The mechanism of action is the biochemical reduction of the 5-nitro group of metronidazole by intracellular transport proteins of anaerobic microorganisms and protozoa. The reduced 5-nitro group of metronidazole interacts with the DNA of the bacterial cell, inhibiting the synthesis of nucleic acids in it, which leads to the death of the microorganism.

Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticosteroid, a methylated derivative of fluoroprednisolone. It has anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, desensitizing, immunosuppressive, antishock and antitoxic effects, increases the sensitivity of beta-adrenergic receptors to endogenous catecholamines.

The mechanism of action of dexamethasone is to suppress the activity of various tissue-destructive enzymes - proteases and nucleases, matrix metalloproteinases, hyaluronidase, phospholipase, inhibition of the synthesis of prostaglandins, kinins, leukotrienes and other inflammatory mediators from arachidonic acid.

Lidocaine - has a local anesthetic effect, blocks voltage-gated sodium channels, which prevents the generation of impulses in the endings of sensory nerves and the conduction of impulses along nerve fibers.

In terms of the degree of impact on the body, Fungin Forte is classified as a low-hazard substance (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007-76); in recommended doses it does not have a local irritant, resorptive-toxic or sensitizing effect. In case of contact with eyes, it causes mild irritation.

Owner reviews

Olesya, owner of a Persian cat:

“Our handsome guy caught shingles somewhere. For treatment, the veterinarian prescribed Fungin. I bought a spray at the pharmacy. Already on the fifth day of use, hair began to grow in the affected areas. The drug is effective, however, after a while there was a relapse. On the advice of a friend, I used Clotrimazole ointment. It is as effective as a spray, but the price is significantly lower.”

Oksana, owner of a 2-year-old cat:

“On the doctor’s recommendation, I used the drug to treat lichen in a cat. The animal became restless, so we had to abandon further use. Afterwards I used sulfur ointment. I didn’t notice any difference in effectiveness, but Miki tolerated the treatment calmly.”

Elena, owner of a 2-month-old kitten:

“Good drug. Used to treat ringworm in a kitten. Used for 10 days. From the 7th day the fur began to recover. No side effects were found. The kitten was indifferent to the procedures.”
