How does the vaccine work?

Types of vaccines, their pharmacological properties
Nobivak is an imported drug; the manufacturer is located in the Netherlands. All products produced are strictly controlled and are absolutely harmless even for pregnant and lactating females. Vaccines do not have a therapeutic effect and are used only to prevent infectious diseases.
DHPPi
Contains weakened strains of microorganisms that cause severe diseases in dogs (infectious hepatitis, plague, parvovirus, parainfluenza and adenovirus). After administration of the drug, the animal develops immunity for 12-36 months.
The vaccine is a pink powder in a special ampoule. According to the instructions for use, Nobivak DHPPi is dissolved before administration with a special solution (Diluent), or with a liquid fraction of another drug for dogs from the same company (Lepto, Rabies).
Lepto (Nobivak Lepto)
Nobivak Lepto contains “killed” microorganisms of leptospirosis of 2 types, which are the most dangerous for dogs. Immunity is developed 3 weeks after the injection and lasts for 12 months.
The drug looks like a clear liquid. Packaged in 1 ml glass bottles.
Puppy DP
The composition includes weakened viruses of the most dangerous diseases for puppies: parvovirus and canine distemper. Animals kept outdoors and in unfavorable areas are vaccinated at the age of 6 weeks. Sustained immunity appears 10 days after administration.
Available in the form of a white powder, which is dissolved in phosphate buffer before injection.

This is an inactivated (“killed”) vaccine against leptospirosis and rabies. After injection of Nobivak RL, immunity against rabies lasts up to 3 years (developed after 21 days), against leptospirosis - for 1 year.
Release form: 1 ml glass ampoule with a cloudy solution, color from yellow to crimson. A precipitate may form, which will dissolve with shaking.
Rabies (Nobivac Rabies)
The drug contains inactivated strains of the virus that causes rabies in animals. Immunity is developed after 21 days and lasts up to 3 years.
Nobivac Rabies is used for dogs and cats and is available in 1 ml glass bottles. The solution is a cloudy white liquid. The presence of easily soluble sediment is allowed.

Nobivac forms resistance to rabies and is applicable to cats, dogs, horses and cattle. Using the drug, killed rabies viruses are introduced into the animal's blood. In response to them, the body produces antigens. They stick to any pathogen in the blood and make it visible to immune cells that can destroy it.
The formation of immune defense in dogs occurs 21 days after injection. The effect after a single injection of the drug can last up to 3 years.
The adjuvant in the composition helps preserve antigens in the body for a long time, which enhances their effect on the immune system.
Indications and contraindications
Nobivak is used for clinically healthy dogs. If the pet has already suffered the disease for which the vaccine is being given, the procedure is postponed for 2-3 weeks after complete recovery.

- Nobivak does not require a special diet; you can feed your dog as usual before vaccination.
- The place where to inject the drug into the dog is determined by the veterinarian - subcutaneously in the area of the withers (or thigh fold), or intramuscularly.
- 1 bottle of any Nobivak product used is equal to 1 dose per 1 animal. The dosage is the same for everyone and does not depend on the age or weight of the pet.
- The injection site is not treated with anything, either before or after vaccination.
- For injection, 2-3 ml syringes are used.
- Before administration, the bottles are thoroughly shaken until the sediment is completely dissolved.
- Empty ampoules are disposed of along with medical waste.

Possible side effects
If all recommended measures are followed, side effects are extremely rare. Possible unwanted effects:

Can Nobivak be used in pregnant cats and kittens?
Regardless of the type of vaccine, Nobivak cannot be used by pregnant or lactating cats (except for Bb, it is safe for mother cats). Kittens can be vaccinated, but from a specific age:
- Tricat - from 2 months;
- Bb - from 1 month;
- Forcat - 2–2.5 months (in rare cases, animals are vaccinated at 1.5 months, but in this case the kitten must also be vaccinated at 2 months, and then at 3 months);
- Rabies - from 3 months (if there is a risk of an epidemic, the vaccination can be repeated after a month);
- Ducat - from 2 months (if the kitten’s mother is not vaccinated) or from 3 months (if the nursing cat is vaccinated).

Contraindications and side effects
Contraindications to the use of the Nobivak vaccine include the following factors:
- weakened state;
- exhaustion;
- parasitic diseases (helminthiasis, etc.);
- infectious diseases.
If I'm not sure that my cat is healthy, I always contact the veterinarian. Our veterinarian not only examines my animals, but also monitors whether I comply with the vaccination schedule. If I miss another vaccination, the doctor himself calls and reminds me about it. You can get vaccinated at home. But there are a number of nuances why it is still worth carrying out the procedure with a specialist:

- Before the injection, the doctor carefully examines the animal and measures the temperature. If there are any doubts about the pet’s health, the specialist will postpone vaccination for some time and recommend how to proceed.
- The vaccination schedule is controlled by a doctor, he will tell you when to come next time.
- The stamp in the veterinary passport is one of the most important points why you need to contact the clinic. A stamp confirming the vaccination and a special registration number are placed only in a veterinary institution. Without these marks, vaccination is considered invalid. The animal cannot be transported or entered into exhibitions. In a controversial situation (if a pet bites someone) without a stamp in the rabies vaccination column, the dog will be considered potentially dangerous.
If you still decide to vaccinate at home, the algorithm of actions is as follows:
- Pre-deworm your pet (10-14 days before the planned vaccination).

- If the vaccination is not done immediately, then at home the drug should be immediately put in the refrigerator.
- Three days before the procedure, the dog should not be treated for fleas and ticks.
- First, take the liquid fraction (Lepto or a special solvent) into a 2 ml syringe and inject it into an ampoule with dry substance (DHPPi). The resulting solution is drawn into a syringe and injected subcutaneously into the dog’s withers or femoral fold, or intramuscularly into the pelvic limb.
