Nobivak Rabies: instructions for use of rabies vaccine for cats and dogs

In this article I will talk about the Nobivac Rabies vaccine. I will dwell on the components of the drug, indications and contraindications, and will discuss in detail the instructions for use and dosage. I will tell owners of pregnant animals how to vaccinate their pets with this drug.

What is Nobivak for dogs?

Comprehensive vaccination is a mandatory annual event for dogs and cats. The procedure is the best prevention against the most dangerous animal diseases of an infectious nature. In addition, leptospirosis and rabies pose a direct threat to humans.

Nobivak is a company that produces high-quality vaccines for dogs and cats. The company's employees are constantly developing more and more new drugs that protect pets from infectious pathologies. Nobivak is widely distributed throughout the world and is in great demand among veterinarians and animal breeders.

It is worth noting that no vaccine provides a complete guarantee that a pet will not become infected with the virus after vaccination. In addition, microorganisms mutate over the years, and new species appear that infect animals and cause serious health problems. However, in vaccinated animals the disease is mild and they have a greater chance of survival.

How does the vaccine work?

The rabies vaccine itself does not cure. Its task is to leave information about this virus in the immune system.

The rabies vaccine is always inactivated. It is made from “killed” viral particles that retain all the information about the virus - specific antigens.

The immune system encounters vaccine antigens, “gets acquainted” with them and produces specific proteins – antibodies, forming an “antigen-antibody” complex. This is how active specific immunity is developed.

For some diseases, lifelong immunity is created, for others, after the first vaccination, 2-3 revaccinations (repeated vaccinations) must be done for long-term and lasting immunity; adult animals must be vaccinated against rabies again once a year.

With regular booster vaccinations, a strong, even, and reliable immune system is formed.

Types of vaccines, their pharmacological properties

Nobivak is an imported drug; the manufacturer is located in the Netherlands. All products produced are strictly controlled and are absolutely harmless even for pregnant and lactating females. Vaccines do not have a therapeutic effect and are used only to prevent infectious diseases.

DHPPi

Contains weakened strains of microorganisms that cause severe diseases in dogs (infectious hepatitis, plague, parvovirus, parainfluenza and adenovirus). After administration of the drug, the animal develops immunity for 12-36 months.

The vaccine is a pink powder in a special ampoule. According to the instructions for use, Nobivak DHPPi is dissolved before administration with a special solution (Diluent), or with a liquid fraction of another drug for dogs from the same company (Lepto, Rabies).

Lepto (Nobivak Lepto)

Nobivak Lepto contains “killed” microorganisms of leptospirosis of 2 types, which are the most dangerous for dogs. Immunity is developed 3 weeks after the injection and lasts for 12 months.

The drug looks like a clear liquid. Packaged in 1 ml glass bottles.

Puppy DP

The composition includes weakened viruses of the most dangerous diseases for puppies: parvovirus and canine distemper. Animals kept outdoors and in unfavorable areas are vaccinated at the age of 6 weeks. Sustained immunity appears 10 days after administration.

Available in the form of a white powder, which is dissolved in phosphate buffer before injection.

R.L.

This is an inactivated (“killed”) vaccine against leptospirosis and rabies. After injection of Nobivak RL, immunity against rabies lasts up to 3 years (developed after 21 days), against leptospirosis - for 1 year.

Release form: 1 ml glass ampoule with a cloudy solution, color from yellow to crimson. A precipitate may form, which will dissolve with shaking.

Rabies (Nobivac Rabies)

The drug contains inactivated strains of the virus that causes rabies in animals. Immunity is developed after 21 days and lasts up to 3 years.

Nobivac Rabies is used for dogs and cats and is available in 1 ml glass bottles. The solution is a cloudy white liquid. The presence of easily soluble sediment is allowed.

pharmachologic effect

Nobivac forms resistance to rabies and is applicable to cats, dogs, horses and cattle. Using the drug, killed rabies viruses are introduced into the animal's blood. In response to them, the body produces antigens. They stick to any pathogen in the blood and make it visible to immune cells that can destroy it.

The formation of immune defense in dogs occurs 21 days after injection. The effect after a single injection of the drug can last up to 3 years.

The adjuvant in the composition helps preserve antigens in the body for a long time, which enhances their effect on the immune system.

Indications and contraindications

Nobivak is used for clinically healthy dogs. If the pet has already suffered the disease for which the vaccine is being given, the procedure is postponed for 2-3 weeks after complete recovery.

IndicationsContraindications
  • A healthy 8 week old puppy that was dewormed 10-14 days ago.
  • Sick and weakened animals.
  • Routine revaccination of an adult healthy pet aged 1 year and older.
  • Period of teeth change in puppies.
  • Nobivak Lepto should not be used in females before childbirth (2 weeks before) and after childbirth during the first 3 weeks.
  • An individual allergic reaction of the dog’s body to the vaccine used.

In case of individual intolerance, the vaccine is subsequently replaced with analogues:

  1. Eurican.
  2. Hexadog.
  3. Kanigen.
  4. Vanguard.
  5. Domestic vaccines - Multikan, Biovac.

Personal safety measures

It is very important to follow the rules of hygiene and personal safety, especially when vaccinating your dog yourself. Try not to let the liquid come into contact with your skin. If this does happen, immediately wash the area of contact with soap and water and treat. In case of contact with mucous membranes, consult a doctor.

The person conducting the vaccination must wear special clothing and have a first aid kit nearby.

Bottles without labels, expired, poorly closed, or with damaged packaging are considered defective. They should be decontaminated by boiling for 15 minutes and then discarded. Also unusable is a vaccine that is not used within 3 hours after opening the bottle.

Instructions for use Nobivak for dogs

In order for the procedure to take place without side effects, you need to adhere to a number of recommendations:

  1. Two weeks before the planned vaccination, the dog is given an anthelmintic.
  2. Nobivak does not require a special diet; you can feed your dog as usual before vaccination.
  3. The place where to inject the drug into the dog is determined by the veterinarian - subcutaneously in the area of the withers (or thigh fold), or intramuscularly.
  4. 1 bottle of any Nobivak product used is equal to 1 dose per 1 animal. The dosage is the same for everyone and does not depend on the age or weight of the pet.
  5. The injection site is not treated with anything, either before or after vaccination.
  6. For injection, 2-3 ml syringes are used.
  7. Before administration, the bottles are thoroughly shaken until the sediment is completely dissolved.
  8. Empty ampoules are disposed of along with medical waste.

It is necessary to observe personal safety measures: wear latex gloves; if the drug comes into contact with the skin, rinse the area with plenty of water.

    to warm to ambient temperature (15-25 degrees C) before use.
  • Use sterile injection equipment.
  • Shake before and during use.
  • Special precautions for use on animals.
  • Vaccinate only healthy animals.

Reviews

Elena, Saratov

“We have two cats and two Yorkies living at home, all of them vaccinated with Nobivak. The dogs are four years old, and the cats are 10 and 12 years old. It was about them that I was worried: how the cats’ bodies would react to vaccinations, because they are no longer young. But now the pets feel great: their appetite is good, their mood is cheerful. It is believed that immunity after vaccination in an animal lasts for three years, but our veterinarian advised vaccination every year as a preventive measure.”

Tatiana, Volgograd

“My dog (sheltie breed, 2.5 years old) suffered anaphylactic shock as a result of the vaccination! We vaccinated Nobivak Rabies + Nobivak DHPPi, Nobivak Lepto, bottle 10 ml/10 doses. Fortunately, I managed to bring her back to the clinic in time, and the dog was saved with a Dexamethasone injection. Previously, we used the drug from a 1 ml bottle (1 dose).”

Possible side effects

If all recommended measures are followed, side effects are extremely rare. Possible unwanted effects:

  • Redness, itching, hair loss, swelling at the injection site. Local reaction to the administered drug. There is no need to smear it with anything, the lump will resolve within a month.
  • Within 1-2 days after the procedure, many pets become lethargic and refuse to eat. This behavior is considered normal if it is not accompanied by vomiting and diarrhea.
  • An acute allergic reaction is accompanied by loss of consciousness, the dog's face swells, and breathing quickens. This condition requires urgent veterinary attention.

Sometimes pets develop post-vaccination sarcoma. The only treatment for this pathology is surgical: removal of the tumor and nearby tissues. That is why doctors recommend vaccination in the pelvic limb area. Since in advanced cases, removing a tumor on the withers is extremely problematic.

General rules for vaccination

The manufacturer claims that Nobivak is a harmless vaccine, but there are some rules that should not be forgotten:

  • before use, you need to make sure that there are no contraindications;
  • you need to take into account the age of the animal;
  • You cannot violate the vaccination schedule (otherwise the effect of the vaccine may “disappear”);
  • if the next vaccination is missed, it should be done as soon as possible;
  • animals living in the same room must be treated at the same time;
  • before vaccination, the cat must be treated for worms;
  • Only healthy cats can be vaccinated;
  • the compatibility of the vaccine with other drugs must be taken into account;
  • You should remember about personal safety measures (it is recommended to use personal protective equipment - gloves, masks, etc.).

Can Nobivak be used in pregnant cats and kittens?

Regardless of the type of vaccine, Nobivak cannot be used by pregnant or lactating cats (except for Bb, it is safe for mother cats). Kittens can be vaccinated, but from a specific age:

  • Tricat - from 2 months;
  • Bb - from 1 month;
  • Forcat - 2–2.5 months (in rare cases, animals are vaccinated at 1.5 months, but in this case the kitten must also be vaccinated at 2 months, and then at 3 months);
  • Rabies - from 3 months (if there is a risk of an epidemic, the vaccination can be repeated after a month);
  • Ducat - from 2 months (if the kitten’s mother is not vaccinated) or from 3 months (if the nursing cat is vaccinated).

One-month-old kittens can only use Nobivac Bb

Contraindications and side effects

Contraindications to the use of the Nobivak vaccine include the following factors:

  • weakened state;
  • exhaustion;
  • parasitic diseases (helminthiasis, etc.);
  • infectious diseases.

If I'm not sure that my cat is healthy, I always contact the veterinarian. Our veterinarian not only examines my animals, but also monitors whether I comply with the vaccination schedule. If I miss another vaccination, the doctor himself calls and reminds me about it. And so that I can call the clinic at any time, the veterinarian’s business card with the phone number hangs on my refrigerator. By the way, since this business card was in a prominent place, I have become less likely to miss important cat events.

When vaccinated in strict accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, no side effects occur. Sometimes short-term pathologies appear:

  • slight swelling at the injection site (with subcutaneous injection);
  • slight increase in temperature that resolves within 48 hours;
  • sneezing, coughing, slight and short-term discharge from the nose and eyes (for Bb).

Is it possible to vaccinate a dog at home?

You can get vaccinated at home. But there are a number of nuances why it is still worth carrying out the procedure with a specialist:

  • The veterinary clinic strictly observes the conditions for transportation and storage of the drug.
  • Before the injection, the doctor carefully examines the animal and measures the temperature. If there are any doubts about the pet’s health, the specialist will postpone vaccination for some time and recommend how to proceed.
  • The vaccination schedule is controlled by a doctor, he will tell you when to come next time.
  • The stamp in the veterinary passport is one of the most important points why you need to contact the clinic. A stamp confirming the vaccination and a special registration number are placed only in a veterinary institution. Without these marks, vaccination is considered invalid. The animal cannot be transported or entered into exhibitions. In a controversial situation (if a pet bites someone) without a stamp in the rabies vaccination column, the dog will be considered potentially dangerous.

If you still decide to vaccinate at home, the algorithm of actions is as follows:

  1. Pre-deworm your pet (10-14 days before the planned vaccination).
  2. Purchase the vaccine and take it home in a special thermal bag with refrigerant.
  3. If the vaccination is not done immediately, then at home the drug should be immediately put in the refrigerator.
  4. Three days before the procedure, the dog should not be treated for fleas and ticks.
  5. First, take the liquid fraction (Lepto or a special solvent) into a 2 ml syringe and inject it into an ampoule with dry substance (DHPPi). The bottle with the drug is shaken until the sediment dissolves. The resulting solution is drawn into a syringe and injected subcutaneously into the dog’s withers or femoral fold, or intramuscularly into the pelvic limb.
  6. It is recommended to inject DHPPi, Rabies or LR in different syringes.
  7. The injection site is lightly massaged, then the dog is released.
  8. In the veterinary passport, the owner puts the date when the vaccination was given and pastes special stickers from the bottles onto the corresponding pages.
  9. The pet cannot be washed for 10 days.

Price of the Nobivak vaccine for dogs, where can I buy it?

The vaccine for self-administration can only be purchased at a veterinary pharmacy. In the clinic, the drug is used only for vaccination directly by the doctor in the institution. Sale for home use is not provided.

Nobivak is a foreign vaccination for dogs, which is why its price is higher than its domestic counterparts.

On average, the price range for 1 bottle of Nobivac is as follows:

Type of drugCost, rubles
Rabies.110 -160.
DHPPi.260-330.
Puppy DP.280-350.
R.L.190-270.
Lepto.75-150.

The cost of vaccination in a veterinary clinic is much higher, because... includes an examination by a doctor and recording of all data in special journals.

Nobivak is a drug that will help protect your pet from viral diseases. If the vaccination schedule is followed correctly, the dog develops lasting immunity. The procedure must be carried out on all animals: puppies, elderly dogs and even those who are exclusively kept at home.
