Properties, principle of operation
Dironet Spot-on for cats
The drug is equally effective against parasites at different stages of their development. The cat receives treatment and protection against larvae and mature fleas, ticks (cutaneous and subcutaneous), lice eaters and worms.
At the site of application, Dironet Spot-on is easily absorbed into the body, penetrating the systemic bloodstream and spreading with the blood to organs and tissues.
The composition disrupts the flow rate of chlorine ions through the cell membranes of the parasite and thereby causes its paralysis and death. When used in strict compliance with the instructions, the composition is completely safe for the animal.
Chemical composition and characteristics
"Dironet" for cats is a complex antiparasitic drug that has the same positive effect on both kittens and adult animals.
- Pyrantel pamoate is a substance that blocks the activity of tapeworms and roundworms in the cat's body. Its effect begins a few hours after entering the animal’s body and persists for many hours, due to which the paralyzed helminths soon die.
- Praziquantel . Once in the body, it blocks the metabolism of parasites, reduces their muscle impulses and inhibits active life in general. The first effect of the substance is observed 3 hours after its use and lasts throughout the day until the pests die.
- Ivermectin is a substance that is successfully absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin of a cat’s body. When the altered blood structure is sucked out, the substance enters the body of pests, due to which they quickly die (neural impulses are blocked, which leads to the death of fleas and ticks).
Did you know? Pathological love and affection for cats has a scientific name - ailurophilia, and some psychologists and psychiatrists are still arguing about the nature of this phenomenon and its relationship to the concept of “normality”.
Indications for use
The drug is prescribed to kittens over 60 days of age and adult animals. It is used to treat and prevent the appearance of body and internal parasites.
The main indications for use of the composition are:
- helminthic lesions of round or tapeworms;
- prevention of helminthiasis, as well as otodectosis and other diseases caused by subcutaneous and skin mites;
- flea infestation;
- lice infestation.
Regular use of the composition prevents the appearance of parasites in the animal and maintains its health. Parasitic diseases, and primarily those caused by helminths, reduce the life expectancy of pets.
Therefore, it is important to take measures to prevent the appearance of parasites.
Important! Kittens should be given only a special type of drug (labeled “For kittens”). Drops intended for adults are not suitable for them.
How to use
Features of using Dironet for cats depend on the form of release and the concentration of active components, so before starting treatment, carefully read the instructions for use.
Suspension
When treating helminthic infestations, the medicine is given once. It is advisable to do this before morning feeding. The dosage is calculated simply - 1 ml of suspension per 1 kg of animal. When using the drug for kittens whose weight has not exceeded 0.5 kg, the medicine must be mixed with 0.3 ml of boiled cold water.
Since the product has the aroma and taste of salmon, most cats will eat it without problems. You can force the suspension out of the syringe onto the root of the tongue. If this is too stressful for your pet, then it is better to mix the medicine with the food (in a small amount). Before use, the antiparasitic agent must be shaken well, as it tends to separate.
If the medicine is used for prevention, it is given once every three months, as well as before vaccinations and mating. It is not necessary to limit the animal’s food the day before or give it a laxative before using Dironet.
Note! The dosage of Dironet Junior is calculated in the same way, but the suspension can be used for kittens from 3 weeks of age.
Pills
The dosage of anthelmintic tablets is calculated as follows - 1 piece per 10 kg of weight. It is not recommended to give the medicine to small kittens, since measuring out the right amount is quite difficult.
The tablets are given forcibly or fed mixed with food. When treating nematodes and cestodes, it is given once; for prevention, the procedure is repeated quarterly.
Drops spot-on
The drops are packaged in polymer pipette tubes, so they are convenient to use. You just need to break off the tip and apply the contents to the withers, dripping in 3-4 places that are inaccessible for licking. For kittens, the dose is 0.1 ml per 1 kg of body weight. When applying, adhere to the following doses:
- for animals less than 1 kg – 3 drops;
- for pets over 1 kg – 5 drops.
For adult cats, the dose is 0.2 ml per 1 kg of weight. When purchasing medicine, consider the weight of the animal to select pipettes of the appropriate size.
Depending on the pathology, the following application regimens are used:
- To get rid of fleas or lice, the drug is applied to the skin once, to prevent infection - once a month.
- When treating ear mites, the medicine is dripped onto the skin once. If necessary, repeat the procedure after a month. If complications occur, antibiotics and other medications may additionally be used.
- For notoedrosis and sarcoptic mange, drops are applied 2-4 times with an interval of 12-14 days. To prevent relapse, repeat the procedure after a month.
- If the main purpose of use is the prevention of worms, the drug is used once a month.
Note! After applying the drops, the animal should not be bathed for 4 days.
Directions for use, dosage for cats
The drops are applied to the withers area, where the cat cannot lick them off.
Drops can be applied at any time. Their effectiveness is not affected by whether the animal has eaten or not. When using drops for the first time, if the cat is allowed to roam freely, it is necessary to leave it in the house for 3-4 hours to make sure that there is no allergy to the product.

- redness of the skin at the site of application of the drops and local increase in temperature;
- profuse drooling;
- muscle tremors;
