The Vakderm vaccine against lichen for dogs, cats, and rabbits contains fungal spores of three species: Microsporum canis, Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Microsporum gypseum. The dosage form of the drug is available in dry and liquid form.

Also for dogs and cats you can use such drugs as: “Kaniquantel”, “Tylosin”, “Ivermec”, “Katozal”, “Tsiprovet”, “Ivermectin”, “Roncoleukin”, “Surolan”, “Tsiperil” and “Amit” .

Composition and release form

On pharmacy shelves you can find two forms of the drug “Vakderm”: suspension and vaccine for injection. The suspension has the form of a yellow powder with a porous texture, and the vaccine for injection is available as a brown mixture.

Vakderm contains fungal cells of dermatophyte cultures, which were grown in specialized media and treated with formaldehyde. The suspension for injection is yellow-brown in color with a sediment of a suspension of fungal cells. Shaking the bottle or heating it to animal temperature may dissolve the flakes. The ampoules are sealed with rubber caps and sealed. If the packaging is damaged or the color of the suspension has changed, the drug cannot be used; its contents must be rendered harmless by boiling for 15 minutes.

Pharmacological properties

Vaccination with Vakderm for dogs, according to the instructions for use, promotes the formation of immunity against fungal diseases by accelerating the appearance of mycotic lesions on the skin. After repeated vaccination, the affected areas begin to be rejected and new fur begins to grow. Sustained resistance of the body to dermatosis appears a month after repeated administration of the vaccine. Immunity lasts for 12 months.

Important! Before starting any medical therapy, including immunization of the animal, your pet must take anthelmintic medications.

Treatment at home

Treatment depends on the variety:

  • Ringworm or eczema. First of all, they find the root cause of the disease and treat it. Then, in order to cure, the drugs Mercurius or Sulfur-3 are prescribed. The crusts are soaked and removed, and ointments (prednisolone or hydrocortisone) are applied to the affected areas of the skin.
  • Pityriasis. Antifungal agents (ketoconazole, yam ointment, etc.) are applied to the affected areas of the skin. It is possible to use nizoral anti-fungal shampoo.
  • Pink. This form of the disease usually goes away quickly on its own if the animal’s immunity is strengthened. Zinc liniment can be applied to the lesions, and in case of severe itching, antihistamines (suprastin, etc.) are used.

  • Ketoconazole, an antifungal agent

    Treatment of ringworm

    Animals infected with trichophytosis or microsporia are isolated in a separate room. The hair on the affected areas is cut off and destroyed.

    The crusts are soaked in chlorhexidine and carefully removed.

    Then a mixture of iodine tincture (mix iodine with water in a ratio of 1 to 1) and 10% salicylic acid is applied to the lesions. After treatment, anti-fungal ointments are applied (nystatin, ketoconazole, clotrimazole, etc.).

    In case of a deep form, these drugs are prescribed to be taken orally in the form of tablets. If there are many lesions, the animal is washed 2-3 times a week with nizoral antifungal shampoo.

    Another effective treatment method is the use of a special Vakderm vaccine. The injection is given twice intramuscularly, with an interval of 2 weeks. After administration of the vaccine, after 25-30 days, the animal develops immunity to trichophytosis and microsporia for 12 months.

    It is better to burn objects that a sick dog has come into close contact with. The fabric can be thoroughly boiled with laundry soap for 15 minutes. All surfaces and clothing are treated with silvester fungus agent.

    Vaccine Vakderm No. 1 (against dermatophytosis in cats, rabbits and dogs)

    Directions for use and dosage for dogs

    If you decide to vaccinate your pet with Vakderm, then you should find out how to prepare the vaccine and where to inject it into your dog. If the vaccine is in dry form, then immediately before injection the dry powder is dissolved in physiological solution or using a special solvent for antidermatosis vaccines. An experienced veterinarian knows that administering a vaccine pre-warmed to body temperature reduces the risk of a local reaction.

    Before injecting your dog with Vakderm, make sure that the resulting solution is heated to body temperature. Injections with the drug are given intramuscularly twice. First, it is injected into the thigh of one paw and after 14 days a second injection is given, but into the thigh of your pet’s other paw. It is also allowed to use distilled water for dilution. Before the injection, you need to shake the prepared solution thoroughly. The veterinarian determines the dosage of the drug based on the weight of your pet: for dogs weighing less than 5 kg, take 0.5 ml of the vaccine, and for dogs weighing 5 kg or more - 1 ml.

    Did you know? In ancient China, the life of the emperor was protected by a Pekingese dog. The small size of the dog made it possible to hide it in the imperial sleeve. If his life was threatened, the Pekingese would jump out and attack the offender.

    What drugs are used

    Domestic veterinarians use Vakderma, Microderma or Polivak TM injections to vaccinate dogs. Each of the drugs can be prescribed for both preventive and therapeutic purposes. Vaccines are produced in the form of a powder lyophilisate or solution. Active effect: no more than 1 year. The drugs differ in price and number of doses. For example:

    • "Vakderm". Sold in the form of a 1 ml bottle with lyophilisate of dried fungal spores. Cost: 100 rubles.
    • Microderm. The package contains 4 ampoules of inactivated spores. Cost: 360 rubles.
    • "Polivak Tm". A 0.6 ml ampoule costs only 40 rubles.

    All these vaccines have a similar principle of action and are analogues of each other. However, Vakderm has received the largest number of positive reviews and is used more often.

    Vakderm: instructions for use

    Dog owners choose this product due to its low side effects and high effectiveness against pathogenic fungi. The price of the drug varies from 95-110 rubles per ampoule. Vaccination is carried out according to the scheme given in the instructions. To avoid complications, the following rules should be strictly followed:

    • carry out deworming 10 days before vaccination;
    • lyophilisate of dried spores should be diluted only with saline solution;
    • place the injection strictly in the hole, which can be felt in the outer part of the thigh;
    • the syringe must be sterile;
    • if the weight is less than 5 kg, administer only half of the drug;
    • a double injection with an interval of 2 weeks is placed alternately in both thighs;
    • The vaccinated animal needs rest, which means physical activity should be avoided for several days.

    Self-indulgence regarding health can lead to the most dire consequences. To carry out vaccinations, you must contact only qualified specialists.

    The first vaccination is allowed once the puppy reaches two months of age and has undergone a proper examination by a veterinarian. Vaccinations should be carried out annually, and then the pet will be reliably protected from trichophytosis and microsporia. The main advantage of this drug is the possibility of its use for medicinal purposes.

    Contraindications and side effects

    Despite the fact that the vaccine is areactogenic and harmless, Vakderm injections are prohibited in the following cases:

    • animal pregnancy;
    • increased body temperature of the animal for any reason;
    • in case of illness of a dog, vaccination is carried out immediately after its recovery.

    Important! Before administering immunization, your veterinarian should examine your pet for any illnesses or health problems. The administration of any vaccines is allowed only to healthy animals.

    Vaccination with Vakderm for dogs does not cause side effects, but local reactions to immunization cannot be ruled out. A lump-like compaction may appear at the injection site; it is of benign origin and resolves on its own within 3-5 days.

    Complications and side effects

    The dosage of the vaccine is calculated based on the age and weight of the individual animal. After the first administration, a deterioration in condition is considered a normal reaction: the dog looks lethargic and sleeps a lot. This temporary phenomenon does not require treatment. Also, at the site of vaccine administration, a local reaction develops in the form of a compaction, which completely resolves after 5-7 days. Other complications arise only when vaccination rules are violated or an allergic reaction occurs.

    If the animal was in the incubation stage of dermatomycosis, the clinical picture begins to progress sharply. Lesions break out in places where pathogenic fungi are localized. The therapeutic dosage differs from the prophylactic dosage, and the number of injections increases up to 4 times.

    Attention to the condition of the animal can be a good alternative to vaccination: at the slightest suspicion of demodicosis, immediate treatment should be started.

    Indications and contraindications

    Vakderm was developed to prevent fungal infections in cats. It is very important to strictly follow the vaccination schedule and get vaccinated annually. This helps to develop strong immunity in the animal and prevent the development of fungal infections not only in animals, but also in people.

    The vaccine is intended to prevent the following diseases in cats:

    1. Microsporia (ringworm), which can occur in acute or chronic form. Very often the symptoms of the disease are hidden. Externally, the disease is accompanied by hair loss, redness of the skin, the formation of whitish scales on the skin, and purulent rashes.
    2. Trichophytosis is a fungal infection. Sources of infection are sick animals and rodents. The disease may not manifest itself for a long time. External symptoms: brittle hair, formation of bald spots, hyperemia of the skin.

    Fungal infections can affect cats of any age and breed. The risk group includes kittens, older cats and weakened animals. For treatment, experts recommend using the vaccine only if the disease is at an early stage. Otherwise, there is a possibility that the pet's condition will worsen.

    Vakderm does not have a toxic effect on the pet’s body. The properties of the vaccine are areactogenic, that is, it does not cause side effects, allergic reactions or complications.

    Contraindications to the use of the drug:

    1. kittens up to one month old;
    2. second half of pregnancy;
    3. acute viral and infectious diseases;
    4. weakened state of the body;
    5. heat.

    In this case, you should first eliminate the signs of the disease and then vaccinate the animal. Veterinarians categorically prohibit the use of Vakderm in combination with other vaccines, as well as drugs that reduce the pet’s immunity.

    A side effect may manifest itself in the form of an allergic reaction to individual components included in the drug. Some cats experience general weakness, drowsiness, and decreased appetite. A lump may form at the injection site, which should be lubricated with iodine tincture.

    Instructions for use

    The drug is intended for intramuscular use. The dry powder is pre-diluted with saline or distilled water. The medicine is thoroughly mixed until a homogeneous solution is obtained. The solution is administered twice. The first injection is placed in the back of the thigh, the second - after 10-14 days in the other leg. To vaccinate kittens, insulin syringes with thin needles are used.

    The dosage is calculated as follows: kittens from 1 to 3 months are administered 0.5 ml, which corresponds to half the dose; To vaccinate adult cats, 1 ml of vaccine is used. Persistent immunity is developed 20−25 days after administration of the drug.

    The next use of the medicine is carried out after a year. There are no seasonal restrictions on the use of the product. If for some reason it was not possible to vaccinate the animal, the vaccination should be done as quickly as possible.

    The use of the vaccine does not cause signs of infection in a healthy animal. But if at the time of the injection the cat was a carrier of the fungus, it may show signs of infection: the appearance of areas of baldness and hair loss. In this case, the drug should be reused. That is, the course of using the medicine will consist not of two, but of three injections.
