The information posted on this page is for informational purposes only and cannot be used for self-medication! Before using medications, consultation with a specialist is MANDATORY!

For whom:

for cats and dogs.

Leave form:

bottles of 10, 15 and 20 ml.

Dosage:

for demodicosis and notoedrosis, the drug is applied using a tampon to the affected areas, previously cleaned of crusts and scabs. The dosage of Amitrazine depends on the severity of the disease and the weight of the animal. Unless otherwise instructed by the veterinarian, it is recommended to use 0.2-0.5 ml of solution per 1 kg of animal weight. The medicine must be distributed evenly in the affected area, covering about 1 cm of healthy skin. The product should be applied 2-5 times every 5-7 days until the signs of the disease disappear. In order to prevent licking of the drug, it is recommended to put a muzzle on the animal or close the jaws with a fabric loop for 15-20 minutes after treatment. In the presence of extensive skin lesions, the drug must be applied twice with an interval of 1 day. In this case, you should first treat one half of the body, and then the second. For otodecosis, in addition to treating the ears and affected areas of the skin, the drug must be dripped into each ear of the animal using a pipette. The dosage for cats and small dogs is 0.5 ml, for medium dogs - 1 ml, for large dogs - 2 ml. During treatment, it is recommended to fold the auricle in half and lightly massage its base.

Restrictions:

This drug should not be used to treat pregnant animals. It is also contraindicated in the presence of allergic reactions to its components. The solution penetrates the skin and accumulates in the epidermis, sweat and fat glands, as well as in hair follicles. If there is damage to the skin where the medicine is applied (abrasions, cracks, scratches), the animal may feel a slight burning sensation.

pharmachologic effect

The product applied to the skin of the animal accumulates in the tissues and destroys mites, blocking their negative effects. Among the indisputable advantages of Amitrazine for cats, two of the most important should be highlighted: proven effectiveness regardless of the severity of the disease, as well as the ability to prevent its recurrence. This drug allows you to cure a cat from such ailments as: Otodecosis (ear scabies). The cat suffers from severe itching in the ear area. If proper measures are not taken in time, the result may be an inflammatory process, perforation of the eardrum, and hearing loss. Otitis (inflammation of the middle ear). The coordination of the animal’s movements is impaired, appetite deteriorates, and can lead to paralysis of the facial nerve. Notoedrosis (severe itching). Leads to fever, weight loss, baldness. The main component of the solution is amitraz. This substance effectively removes ticks Otodectes cynotis, Notoedres cati, Sarcoptes canis and S.vulpis. The pharmacological effect of the drug is as follows: it penetrates the skin of the animal, comes into contact with ticks, affects the receptors of parasites, which cannot move and ultimately die. The remaining components of Amitrazine play an equally important role: they facilitate the penetration of the active substance into places where mites accumulate, and also eliminate inflammation in these areas and promote rapid healing of wounds.

How to quickly and effectively treat ear mites

Composition and features

The drug is produced in two versions - Amitrazine and Amitrazine-Plus. The main active substance is amitriz. The substance has a pronounced acaricidal effect against ticks that parasitize domestic animals. Medicines differ in that the drug with the “Plus” prefix also includes decamethoxin, which has an antifungal and antiseptic effect.

Externally, the medicine is an oily liquid. Auxiliary components are vegetable oil and dimethyl sulfoxide. These substances contribute to better distribution of fluid in areas affected by parasites and enhance the effect of the active substance. The medicinal liquid is characterized by a yellow color and a pungent odor.

Anti-tick medication is packaged in polymer bottles. Typically, containers with a capacity of 10 ml are used, but packages of 15 and 20 ml are also available. Usually the bottles are equipped with a built-in dropper-pipette, so the solution is convenient to use in the treatment of otodectosis (instilled into the ear canal). Each bottle is individually packaged in a cardboard box and comes with instructions for use. Amitrazine-Plus is packaged in glass bottles, which are sealed with rubber stoppers.

Composition of the product

In appearance, Amitrazine is a fatty, oily, yellowish liquid with a pungent odor.

The drug is available in glass dropper bottles with a volume of 10 ml.

Main active ingredients:

  • Amitraz. This is a synthetic organic compound that has pronounced insectoacaricidal activity against fleas, lice, lice, and ixodid ticks. It acts not only on adult parasites, but also on their larvae. Under the influence of the drug, parasites are poisoned, then paralyzed and subsequently killed.
  • Decamethoxin - has antifungal and bactericidal effects.

Excipients:

  • Dimethyl sulfoxide is an anti-inflammatory agent with an analgesic effect;
  • Vegetable oil.

Amitrazine Plus has good penetrating ability. This makes it effective against parasites that are localized in the deep layers of the skin and are insensitive to other antiparasitic agents, including ointments.

Due to its composition, Amitrazine is able to linger in the hairs (hair follicles) and sebaceous glands of the skin, thereby preventing re-infection by parasites.

Contraindications and adverse reactions

The drug is prescribed with caution:

  • Puppies and kittens less than 4 weeks old;
  • Pregnant and lactating animals;
  • Animals suffering from infectious diseases;
  • Animals in the recovery stage;
  • Aged and weakened animals.

Contraindications include:

  • Individual intolerance to the components of the drug - the occurrence of allergic reactions is possible.
  • Amitrazine should not be applied to open wounds - the animal will experience severe pain.
  • Do not allow the drug to come into contact with mucous membranes or eyes (it is irritating).

If negative reactions to the drug occur, treatment with Amitrazine should be discontinued.

If an animal accidentally licks the drops, clinical signs of poisoning may appear:

  • Vomit;
  • Increased salivation;
  • Convulsions;
  • Dilated pupils;
  • Weakness;
  • Refusal of food.

In this case, it is recommended to give the animal a sorbent (activated carbon, Enterosgel) and plenty of drink.

Contraindications

The antiparasitic drug contains toxic components, and therefore has a number of prohibitions on use. Contraindications are:

  • infectious diseases;
  • severe degree of exhaustion;
  • pregnancy;
  • lactation;
  • puppies are up to 2 months old.

The acaricide should not be used by animals with a tendency to allergies or those with individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
When using, you should follow the dosage and treatment regimen prescribed by your doctor, and make sure that the dog does not lick the solution. Allergic reactions may occur:

  • severe itching;
  • rashes on the body;
  • hives.

In this case, the dog should be immediately washed with shampoo and given an antihistamine.
If the solution accidentally gets inside the body, the following are possible:

  • nausea, vomiting;
  • diarrhea;
  • excessive salivation;
  • apathy;
  • impaired coordination of movements.

First aid for Amitrazine poisoning consists of taking enterosorbents and gastric lavage. In case of severe poisoning, you should immediately contact a veterinary clinic.

Dosage of the drug

Before use, the maximum dosage of the drug is calculated. If the lesions are not too extensive, crusts and scabs are soaked with Amitrazine. Dosage is calculated according to dimensions:

  • Small dogs – 0.5 ml.
  • The average dog is 1 ml.
  • Large dogs – 2 ml.

When treating affected skin, the drug is applied with a gauze pad. Dosage is calculated by weight. The dosage per 1 kg of body weight is 0.2–0.5 ml, depending on the extent and depth of skin damage. The affected areas are treated with a thin layer, covering healthy skin within a radius of 10 mm. Gauze swabs are changed after treating each individual area.

Directions for use, dosage

When infected with demodicosis, Amitrazine for dogs is recommended to be applied directly to the affected areas of the skin, which must be cleaned of crusts before application. The dosage of the drug is 0.2−0.5 ml/kg of animal body weight. Treatment is carried out once a day.

When cats and dogs are infected with ear mites, 2-3 drops of Amitrazine are instilled into the outer ear canal. Before instillation, the ears must be cleared of secretions. It is recommended to drip the product once a day.

Treatment is carried out until the clinical signs of the disease disappear (6−8 days). The correct dosage of medication and treatment regimen for the animal must be selected by a veterinarian.

Shelf life and storage conditions

The shelf life of the drug is 2 years

from the moment of production. The medicine should be stored in a dark place. If the drug was previously frozen, it should be warmed to room temperature before use. Once opened, the medicine can be stored for a maximum of 30 days.

Amitrazine is a veterinary drug that is used for cats in the treatment of pathologies caused by sarcoptic mites. The medicine has a wide spectrum of action and is therefore highly effective.

Amitrazine is available in the form of an oily solution. It has a specific smell. The drug is produced by several domestic pharmacological companies, so in pharmacies you can find the medicine in different packages. Typically, polymer bottles of 10 ml are used (rarely larger volumes), equipped with droppers for ease of use. Amitrazine is also found in clear glass bottles, sealed with rubber stoppers and aluminum caps. In this case, the medicine is equipped with a plastic dropper, which is placed on the bottle after opening.

general description

Two types of medicine - Amitrazine and Amitrazine-Plus - contain amitraz as the main therapeutic component.
This is a substance that causes paralysis of ticks, due to which the parasite dies not immediately, but within 2-3 days. In addition to amitraz, which has a pronounced acaricidal effect, Amitrazine-Plus contains decamethoxin, which has an antiseptic effect. Excipients give the medicine the appearance of an oily liquid that easily spreads over the affected areas of the animal's skin.

Composition and expiration date

The active substance is amitraz. Its content in the product is 0.25% per 1 ml. The solution has a transparent color and a characteristic medicinal odor; a yellowish tint is possible. Amitrazine is sold in the form of drops, in bottles of 10, 15 and 20 ml. Each container is in a cardboard box and comes with instructions.

The shelf life is 2 years from the date of production. The drug must be stored in places protected from sunlight and away from heating devices, as well as inaccessible to children and pets (otherwise there is a danger to their health and life).

The room temperature cannot exceed +18…+25°C. You need to keep the medicine away from food.

Storage conditions

To ensure maximum effectiveness and safety of the medicine for the cat itself, the following storage conditions must be strictly observed:

Temperature – from 1° to 28° Celsius. Note that Amitrazine can be frozen, and this does not affect its medicinal properties (we are talking about one freezing/thawing cycle). But you should not store the medicine for a long time at temperatures above 30° Celsius, as this will significantly deteriorate its quality. Of course, you should not freeze Amitrazine in glass vials.

When storing the drug, it should be protected from direct sunlight, since ultraviolet radiation promotes the decomposition of the drug into its components.

Medicines must be reliably protected from access by pets and children. Indications for use

In most cases, indications for use include many types of tick-borne infestations:

Otodectosis (i.e. ear mites). In cats, this pathology occurs everywhere; in rural areas, population coverage often reaches 100%.

Demodicosis (subcutaneous mite). An extremely dangerous disease. Note that even if you use Amitrazine, it will most likely not be possible to achieve a complete recovery. The immune system of a sick cat is greatly weakened, and some of the parasites still remain in the deep layers of the skin.

Notoedrosis and sarcoptic mange. Scabies is caused by microscopic species of parasitic mites. Both types of parasites are almost identical, and therefore even in specialized literature they are often described comprehensively.

Side effects

If you use the drug in accordance with the rules described above, side effects are extremely unlikely. Their development is much more likely in cases of overdose, unreasonably long treatment, as well as special cases (such as individual intolerance to the components of the drug):

Redness and mild inflammation of the treated skin areas. In more severe cases (or when the owner does not pay attention to it), the process can develop until the skin becomes rough and deep cracks appear on it. They often bleed and local pain occurs. Worst of all, when the process reaches the formation of ulcerative and necrotic lesions, the development of drug-induced dermatitis and eczema is also possible. In addition, one should not forget about the possibility of developing allergic reactions if there is an individual intolerance to the drug

In addition, one should not forget about the possibility of developing allergic reactions if there is an individual intolerance to the drug.

special instructions

The main thing before starting to use Amitrazine is to familiarize yourself in detail with all the possible consequences, precautions and reviews. For example, you should apply the medicine not only to the affected area, but also to the skin around it

This allows you to stop the infection and improve the cat’s condition faster.

Storage conditions

For those who decide to treat a cat with Amitrazine, it will be important to find out the operating conditions for this drug. Among the main parameters specified by the manufacturer, the following requirements for storage space can be identified:

  • the temperature should be room temperature;
  • the room is protected from direct sunlight;
  • You should choose a place inaccessible to children and animals.

The shelf life of this medicine is also limited. If all the above conditions are met, it retains its properties for up to 2 years.

Pets quite often suffer from ear diseases, which manifest themselves in the form of itching, crusting, and accumulation of dirt. A cat or dog suffering from such a disease will be helped by the modern drug "Amitrazine", the instructions for use of which take into account the recommendations for these animals.

Indications for use

The veterinarian may prescribe the use of Amitrazine in several cases. Most often these are the following lesions

:

  • otodectosis;
  • demodicosis;
  • notoedrosis.

Otodectosis is a lesion of the ear canal in cats. This is often observed in breeds whose characteristic feature is drooping ears. In such situations, doctors often suggest giving Amitrazine to the cat against ear mites. The disease itself is accompanied by inflammation, which can cause itching and pus with a characteristic odor.

Notoedrosis is an inflammation in which a cat's skin is affected by itch mites. Situations with baldness are no longer uncommon here. The most serious consequences, in this case, are disturbances in the functioning of the cardiovascular system. The neural network may also be affected. If you have any of the diseases described, you should consult your doctor before using Amitrazine.

Contraindications for use

There are several serious contraindications that do not allow the use of Amitrazine. First of all, the medicine is not suitable for kittens less than 2 months old. In addition, it is not recommended to prescribe Amitrazine to cats during pregnancy and lactation.

Particular attention should be paid to personal intolerance to individual components of the product

Is it possible?

Indications for use are the following diseases of pets:

  • otodectosis (ear mites);
  • demodicosis (skin mites);
  • notoedrosis (parasitic mites);
  • sarcoptic mange (infectious scabies caused by mites).

Amitrazine is also successfully used to prevent these diseases. The product also reduces the likelihood of developing complications, for example, otitis media, often caused by ear mites.

The drug can only be used externally. If ingested, it can cause severe poisoning. It is strongly recommended to use drops after consulting a veterinarian . Only a doctor can prescribe the most appropriate course of treatment, taking into account all the characteristics of the dog.

Some animals should not use the medicine:

  • elderly;
  • weakened and sick;
  • puppies less than 2 months old;
  • pregnant and lactating females;
  • pets belonging to small decorative breeds.

In the latter case, the ban is conditional. It is associated with a high risk of exceeding the permissible dosage. The smaller the animal's body weight, the higher the danger. A direct and unconditional contraindication is hypersensitivity to the active ingredient. In this case, you will have to choose another drug.

Amitrazine instructions for cats and its dosage

Before use, the animal's jaw should be closed with a braid to prevent the pet from licking itself. The ears must be cleaned of any crusts, scabs, and earwax that have formed. The auricle is folded in half and massaged a little at the base to warm the skin and improve the effect. A solution at room temperature is applied to the affected areas. This should be done in such a way as to cover the area around the fireplace by one or two centimeters.

Treatment is carried out until the symptoms disappear: with demodicosis, 7 treatments are usually required, for other diseases - about 4-5. The medicine must be applied once a day every three days. You can instill the medicine with a pipette or apply it with a cotton swab.

The dosage is selected based on the weight of the animal - for example, for adult cats, 0.5 ml is needed in each ear. 20 minutes after application, the tape can be removed - during this time the product has been absorbed, and the animal will not be able to lick it off. You can talk about a complete recovery only after taking a test at a veterinary institution; it must give a negative result.

Amitrazine is an effective medicine for four-legged friends: it actively fights parasites, is easy to apply, and does not require close supervision by a doctor.

The drug is low toxic. Prescribed for the treatment and prevention of ear and skin mites in pets.

Side effects

The product is not toxic. However, Amitrazine is a potent compound. With increasing dosage, severe intoxication is possible. The following signs indicate poisoning:

  • dilated pupils;
  • vomit;
  • increased salivation;
  • convulsions;
  • depressed state;
  • decreased appetite.

For treatment, it is necessary to give the animal activated carbon or another enterosorbent. Drinking plenty of fluids is recommended. The pet’s well-being improves after 8-10 hours.

Similar symptoms are characteristic of accidental licking of drops. Therefore, the dog should not be allowed to do this. If the animal's condition worsens after taking the medicine, you should stop treatment and consult a doctor.

Composition, release form and packaging

The drug is released in the form of drops in plastic containers of 10 ml, 15 ml or 20 ml, which are placed in paper packaging.

Important! If the affected area is too large, it is recommended to treat the animal in 2 stages: first on one side, and after 1 day on the other.

The composition of the medicinal product includes the following components

:

"Amitrazine" is used for and is used to combat such diseases

:

Pets quite often suffer from ear diseases, which manifest themselves in the form of itching, crusting, and accumulation of dirt. A cat or dog suffering from such a disease will be helped by the modern drug "Amitrazine", the instructions for use of which take into account the recommendations for these animals.

Indications for use

Amitrazine can be used to treat pets not only in the clinic, but also at home.

The main indications for use are as follows:

Otodectosis or ear mites. This disease is caused by a microscopic mite that attacks the cat's hearing organs. Otodectosis can be recognized by a dark, almost black thick coating inside the ears. The animal actively shakes its head, scratches its ears, and is worried.

Demodectic mange or subcutaneous mite. With this disease, animals do not experience itching, but bald patches appear on the skin, covered with pustules and scabs. The lesions first appear on the face, chest and forelimbs, and then spread throughout the body. The causative agents are subcutaneous Demodex mites.

Notoedrosis or scabies mite. This disease is caused by the scabies mite. The animal experiences severe itching and scratches. Fluid-filled blisters appear on the skin in the abdomen, groin and muzzle. After some time, they burst and scabs form in their place. Notoedrosis is often accompanied by fungal and bacterial infections.

Amitrazine has an effect on all forms of development of subcutaneous, ear and scabies mites that parasitize pets.

Owner reviews

Daria, owner of a Japanese bobtail:

“Our cat started scratching her ears constantly. I noticed that dirt constantly accumulates in them. They cleaned the ear canals regularly, but this did not help. We went to the clinic, where we were diagnosed with otodecosis and prescribed Amitrazine. After the first use, the cat felt better, although the treatment procedure itself could not be called pleasant. It was clear that there was a burning sensation. After two procedures, the ears became clean again. Tests confirmed that the tick was no longer present. Good drug."

Vera, owner of a 3-month-old kitten:

“We bought Amitrazine to treat a kitten’s ear scabies. This is not a cure, it's just poison! After the first burial, Fluffy ran all over the house, meowing and shaking his head violently. Apparently he was in pain. When the procedure was repeated on the second day, the cat vomited. He became lethargic and refused to eat. I can't recommend it to other cat owners."

Drug analogues

Amitrazine analogues include:

Amit Forte. A yellowish solution available for sale in bottles of 10, 15, 20 or 30 ml, or in disposable pipettes of 1 and 1.4 ml. The main active ingredient is fipronil. The drug is used for demodicosis, infection with scabies and ear mites. Diphenhydramine, which is part of the composition, has a calming effect.

Decta Forte. An oily solution with a light brown or yellow tint. It goes on sale in plastic bottles of 10 ml. The main component is fipronil. It also contains the anesthetic component lidocaine and the antibiotic chloramphenicol. The product is effective when your pet is infected with scabies and ear mites. It is also used to treat demodicosis.

Aversectin ointment. A homogeneous mass with a slightly yellowish tint. The main component is aversectin. Also included are glycerin and polyethylene oxide. It goes on sale in cans of 15, 20, 30, 60 and 500 grams. The medicine is effective against ear, subcutaneous and scabies mites.

Instructions for use of Amitrazine

Note that the instructions for using Amitrazine depend on the specific type of parasitic mites. Of course, the differences are not too significant, but they still need to be remembered.

It is most necessary to carefully follow the rules when treating demodicosis:

The cat needs to be prepared. To do this, animal hair (especially long-haired animals) in areas of skin lesions must be cut and shaved. In general, if your pet has long hair, it is advisable to cut it completely. This will make it much easier to treat the cat, the effect of therapy will appear much earlier, and the likelihood of relapse will be reduced to a minimum.

Treat all affected areas using a cotton-gauze swab soaked in medicine. In severe cases, it would be better to lubricate the entire body of the animal. Treatment must be carried out every three days. The duration of the course of treatment should be determined by the veterinarian, but at least eight treatments must be carried out during this period.

You need to lubricate the drug not only on the affected areas, but also on healthy skin within a radius of 1.5 cm from the lesions. Otherwise, it is impossible to achieve complete destruction of parasites.

Since with demodicosis it is often necessary to smear the entire cat with the medicine, it is necessary to prevent it from licking after treatment. The best way to do this is to use a surgical collar. Your pet will have to wear it for at least three hours until the drug is completely absorbed. If this rule is not followed, the pet may be seriously poisoned.

The easiest way to use the drug is to treat otodectosis. In this case, the medicine is instilled into each ear every three days. Even if your pet’s ear canal is affected on only one side, you cannot skimp on the medicine!

The tick will inevitably move to the second ear, so then you will still have to spend the drug for a second course of treatment. After instilling the drug, you need to massage the base of the ear for better distribution of the drug.

Reviews

Owners

Svetlana, Tyumen:

“The veterinarian prescribed Amitrazine to the dog, and the drug helped a lot against ear mites. It was inexpensive. I bought the product at a veterinary pharmacy for 60 rubles.”

Pavel, Moscow:

“My bull terrier caught demodicosis and infected our cat. Both were cured after 6 treatments. The product is good, but if it comes into contact with the skin, the animal suffers. Be careful when applying. I'm pleased with the effect. My pets have been healthy for six months now.”

Veterinarians

Irina, veterinarian, Kazan:

“Amitrazine is a very effective anti-tick drug. However, you often have to deal with allergies to medications. In such situations, I prescribe more gentle anti-tick remedies. Poisoning is also common. People are not always attentive to their pets.”

Sergey, veterinarian, Rostov-on-Don:

“I prescribe Amitrazine daily. It is great for almost all types of dogs, especially young and healthy dogs. I wouldn't recommend it for small breeds. They often experience poisoning. I strongly ask dog owners not to self-medicate, but to seek help from qualified specialists.”
