Cestal Plus against worms for dogs with liver flavor 12663

Composition and release form

Cestal is available in the form of round tablets of a yellow-gray hue, which have a groove for separation. Its presence greatly simplifies the division of tablets to measure the required dose. Owners of small breed dogs will appreciate the convenience.

The tablets are packaged in aluminum blisters of 2 pieces. The cardboard package contains 5 such blisters (10 tablets) and instructions for use. The weight of one tablet is 700 mg. The active substances are:

  • fenbendazole (concentration - 200 mg in 1 tablet);
  • pyrantel pamoate (144 mg);
  • praziquantel (50 mg).

Each of the active components has a detrimental effect on worms that parasitize the gastrointestinal tract of animals. Includes excipients. One of the excipients is liver flavoring. It gives the tablets a pleasant smell for animals.

Pharmacological properties

Cestal Plus is used to kill and prevent nematodes and cestodes. The wide spectrum of action is due to the combination of three active substances, each of which affects mature individuals and worm larvae:

  1. Praziquantel is deadly for cestodes. Cell membranes become more permeable to calcium ions. As a result, there is a reduction in the muscles of the worms, which causes paralysis and, as a consequence, death. A special feature of the substance is its rapid absorption into the blood and distribution throughout the body. The half-life of praziquantel from the body is 24 hours.
  2. Pyrantel pamoate is dangerous for nematodes. It contributes to disruption of the transmission of nerve impulses. “Information blockade” causes paralysis, which leads to death. Absorbed in the intestines. It has a long-lasting effect. It is excreted from the body after metabolism along with feces.
  3. Fenbendazole acts mainly against nematodes, although it also creates unfavorable conditions for tapeworms. Parasites under its influence die in a short time due to a disruption in energy metabolism. It is practically not absorbed in the intestines, and is excreted from the body for a long time, mostly along with feces and urine.

The anthelmintic does not have a mutagenic effect and does not have embryotoxic properties.

Indications for use

Cestal is used to treat helminthic infestations caused by roundworms or tapeworms. They live in the gastrointestinal tract. Their presence may be indicated by vomiting and other disturbances in the gastrointestinal tract, lack of weight gain, and poor health of the animal.

Medicine is also prescribed for prophylactic purposes to prevent infection with worms. The product is used for deworming before mating and vaccination.

Consultation with a veterinarian is required!

Indications and restrictions on the use of the product

The most common indication for the use of Cestal is the presence of helminthic infestation or damage to the gastrointestinal tract by tapeworms. These tablets help restore the digestive system, normalize weight gain and appetite of the animal.

Useful! Cestal is also suitable for dogs before vaccination to prevent new infestations. However, all these effects are achieved with the help of strong chemicals. This is what motivates the restrictions on use.

► Cestal is not prescribed for:

  1. The animal is up to 21 days old.
  2. Past or ongoing infectious disease.
  3. Allergies.
  4. Recovery after operations.
  5. Pregnancy.

Instructions for use

Cestal for dogs should be used according to the instructions for use. The dose of the medicine is calculated taking into account the weight of the animal:

  1. For puppies and small dogs weighing less than 2 kg, a quarter of one tablet will be required.
  2. Pets weighing from 2 to 5 kg should be given 0.5 tablets.
  3. For dogs weighing from 5 to 10 kg, 1 pill is needed.
  4. For animals weighing from 10 to 20 kg, 2 tablets should be taken.
  5. If the animal weighs 20-30 kg, you need to give 3 pills.
  6. If your pet's weight is between 30 and 40 kg, you need to take 4 tablets.
  7. For large animals weighing more than 40 kg, 5 pills will be required.

To get rid of worms, the medicine is given once. For severe or mixed infestations, the treatment is repeated after 2 weeks. For prevention purposes, Cestal is given to dogs in the above doses once a quarter.

You can give the drug using one of the following options:

  1. Hide the tablet in the food and feed it to the animal. You can mix it with minced meat or hide it in a piece of meat or other treat that your dog loves.
  2. Forcefully place the medication on the root of your pet's tongue to prevent him from spitting out the medication.
  3. Grind the tablet into powder and dissolve in a small amount of water (boil and cool first). Using a syringe without a needle, inject the medicine directly into the mouth.

The drug should be given to the animal before morning feeding. Treatment for worms with Cestal does not require special preparation. The animal does not need to be kept on a special diet, given laxatives or given an enema.

Preventive measures against worm infection should begin after the puppy is 21 days old.

Cestal Plus against worms for dogs with liver flavor 12663

COMPOSITION AND FORM OF RELEASE

An anthelmintic drug containing in one tablet as active ingredients 50 mg of praziquantel, 144 mg of pyrantel embonate and 200 mg of fenbendazole, as well as an excipient. Produced in the form of round flat tablets from light yellow to gray-brown color with a dividing groove in the middle, weighing 0.7 g.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Cestal Plus with liver flavor has a wide spectrum of anthelmintic action. Praziquantel, which is part of the drug, is active against the cestodes Taenia spp., Dipylidium caninum, Echinococcus spp. The mechanism of action of praziquantel is to increase the permeability of helminth cell membranes to calcium ions, which causes a generalized contraction of the parasite's muscles, which turns into persistent paralysis. Praziquantel induces vacuolization and subsequent destruction of parasite segments, which leads to loss of cellular components and rapid death of the helminth. Praziquantel is rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the intestine, is well distributed in most organs, and is excreted in the urine in a metabolized form. Pyrantel embonate is active against nematodes, including Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina, Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala, and causes paralysis and contracture of skeletal muscles in parasites. Pyrantel embonate is partially absorbed in the intestine, quickly metabolized in the animal’s body, and is excreted mainly in feces. The mechanism of action of fenbendazole, which has a detrimental effect on nematodes, is to suppress the fumarate reductase enzyme system of the parasite, leading to disruption of energy metabolism and death of the helminth. Cestal Plus with liver flavor belongs to the group of low toxicity for warm-blooded animals

relative compounds, in recommended doses does not have embryotoxic or teratogenic effects.

DOSES AND METHOD OF APPLICATION Cestal Plus with liver flavor is given orally to dogs individually, once in the morning feeding with a small amount of food (with a piece of meat, sausage, minced meat, porridge) at the rate of puppies over 3 weeks of age and small dogs weighing up to 2 kg in the amount 1/4 tablet, dogs weighing 2 - 5 kg - 1/2 tablet, weighing 5 - 10 kg - 1 tablet, weighing 10 - 20 kg - 2 tablets, weighing 20 - 30 kg - 3 tablets, weighing 30 - 40 kg - 4 tablets, weighing more than 40 kg - 5 tablets. If an animal refuses food containing an anthelmintic, the drug is forcibly administered to the root of the tongue or in the form of an aqueous suspension. To prepare the suspension, the tablet is crushed, suspended in 10 ml of water, shaken vigorously and immediately administered orally to the animal using a syringe with a catheter at the rate of 1 ml of suspension per 1 kg of animal weight. A preliminary starvation diet and the use of laxatives before deworming are not required. For preventive purposes, dogs are dewormed quarterly, as well as before vaccination and mating.

INDICATIONS

Prescribed to dogs for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes for nematodes (toxocariasis, toxascariasis, uncinariasis, hookworm, trichuriasis) and cestodiasis (dipilidiosis, diphyllobothriasis, echinococcosis, taeniasis).

Contraindications and side effects

Sometimes it is not worth using Cestal Plus for dogs. Contraindications are:

  • age up to 3 weeks;

Sometimes the medicine causes allergic reactions. If this happens, antihistamines and symptomatic treatment are prescribed. Pets with hypersensitivity are given the product with caution and after consultation with a doctor.

Side effects from using the product

Owner reviews

Alena, owner of a one-year-old dog:

“Ever since we adopted a little puppy from our friends, he had digestive problems. We tried different foods and diets, but there was no result, so we went to the clinic. After testing, we were diagnosed with worms. At first they took Milbemax, but the worms remained. Then the veterinarian prescribed Cestal Plus. When re-checking, no worms were found. Now we regularly use the drug for prevention once every three months. We are pleased with the result."

Victor, Beagle owner:

“We went to the village to relax with the dog. On the third day, he began to vomit severely, refused to eat, lay down and did not want to go for a walk. We went to the veterinary hospital and found worms. The doctor recommended Cestal. The next day we saw several worms in the feces. The procedure was repeated two weeks later. I recommend".

Maria, owner of a German shepherd:

“We constantly use Cestal before mating and vaccination. The dog tolerates the drug well. The only drawback is that you have to give several tablets (forcibly, our pet did not appreciate the smell of liver). We took tests several times, everything was clear. The product copes with its functions.”

Reviews from dog breeders

Dog owners claim that Cestal effectively destroys helminths.
Elena. I have been communicating with dog owners through my work for many years. Over the years, I have not heard a single negative review about the drug “Cestal”. On the contrary, one chow-chow owner claimed that she got rid of helminths with this drug. Of course, I don’t recommend doing this, but this only proves that the product really helps. I personally only give cestal to my dogs for prevention.

Valeria. I used another medicine for a long time to treat dogs and was not particularly happy with it. I did this until I went to dog training courses. There I learned about really effective drugs. I gave my Chinese Crested cat some cestal and saw something that still hasn’t come out of her... Now I only use cestal. What is typical is that only prevention is enough - worms do not take root in the body after this remedy.

Andrey. We vacationed in the village in the summer. After a short time, the dog started vomiting and felt somewhat uneasy. At first they thought she was poisoned. But after repeated vomiting we went to the clinic. According to the results of the analysis, we were “delighted” - worms. Cestal was prescribed. Already on the next walk after taking the drug, we noticed parasites in the feces. After 15 days the procedure was repeated. The dog is now healthy. We have started (and will continue) preventive treatment with cestal.

Reviews from veterinarians

Anastasia, veterinarian with 5 years of experience:

“Cestal is a modern and effective anthelmintic drug. Its main advantage is its wide spectrum of action. I recommend using it not only to combat worms, but also to prevent their appearance. I am prescribing the medicine together with Enterogel, since it contains substances that are toxic to the liver. Rarely causes side effects."

Alexey, veterinarian:

“The imported drug Cestal perfectly helps fight internal parasites, which are dangerous not only for animals, but also for people. And although its cost is quite high, the efficiency completely compensates for this. In my practice, there have been no cases when this remedy could not cope with the destruction of worms. I recommend it for use, but do not forget that it is still poison, and do not exceed the dose.”

Tatyana Mikhailovna, veterinarian in Yekaterinburg:

“I think Cestal is one of the most effective drugs among anthelmintics. I often prescribe it to my furry patients for both treatment and prevention. In my practice, the product did not fail and always helped get rid of parasites.”

Cats are favorites in families; the furry “family member” is carefully looked after and cared for. However, owners encounter an annoying phenomenon when keeping cats - the presence of worms in their bodies. There are several types of parasites that trouble pets. When exposed to external fleas and ticks, signs of dermatitis appear, and when internal worms are present in the body, kittens suffer from diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss, and hair loss. The presence of helminths in cats is also dangerous for owners. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly deworm animals using modern means: tablets, sprays, drops, suspensions.

Reviews of cestal for dogs

Review #1

As long as I work at dog shows, I hear only positive reviews about cestal. There was even one unique case when a woman said that she cured herself with this drug, and before that, no human drugs helped her. So my dogs only receive prophylaxis from cestal.

Olga, Moscow

Review #2

For many years I used other drugs. Until I went to an expert dog handler course, where they told us which drugs were created for appearances and which ones work. I gave my dog Cestal and saw a lot of interesting things that other drugs don’t do at all.

Mechanism of action of Cestal

Cestal is a complex drug whose action is based on the properties of praziquantel. It has a detrimental effect on the cell membranes of tapeworms, causing paralysis in them, leading to the death of the parasites. Helminths are destroyed and removed from the body.

Pyrantel affects the muscular system of roundworms, blocking nerve impulses. Parasites die in a short time.

Absorption of the anthelmintic into the blood of animals occurs immediately after consumption and remains in the plasma for up to 24 hours; the remaining medication is excreted from the body in the urine.

What to do in case of overdose

If a cat develops symptoms of an overdose with severe intoxication (vomiting, convulsions, drooling), it is imperative to contact a veterinary hospital. The parasites die from the action of the anthelmintic drug, but are not immediately removed from the animal’s body. Cats weakened by helminths are poisoned by decay products. Therefore, some owners mistake symptoms such as lethargy, refusal to eat for drug poisoning or an overdose. A specialist can determine the reason for this behavior and prescribe appropriate treatment.

Safety precautions and storage rules for Cestal

When working with Cestal, you must remember: such medicines require compliance with safety and personal hygiene rules. People with hypersensitivity to substances in Cestal should be careful in contact with the anthelmintic.

If signs of an allergy appear or the drug accidentally enters the human body, you should immediately seek help from a medical institution, and you should take with you instructions for using the anthelmintic.

Any container from Tsestal must be sent for disposal with waste.

You must work in protective rubber gloves, and after work you should thoroughly wash your hands with disinfectant soap.

Any medications must be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from light, out of reach of children and animals. In conditions where the temperature is +15°-25°C, Cestal will remain suitable for 24 months from the date of release.

  • Trontsil-K is used to combat helminths, is effective against tapeworms and roundworms, destroys the membranes of parasite cells, after which they die.
  • Drontal is a drug developed by German veterinary scientists.
It has a detrimental effect against various types of roundworms, tapeworms, and echinococci. Attention. Drontal does not protect against nematodes, which cats become infected with when eating raw fish. If they like fish, then you need to use a different anthelmintic drug.
  • Profender is a drug from Germany used for deworming and can be used for prevention. Unlike other remedies for nematodes, it is used by applying drops to a place on the skin where animals cannot lick the drops.
  • Russian-made helminthal is sold in veterinary pharmacies in the form of drops for external use and syrup (suspension). The first option is universal, as it is suitable for combating both internal and external parasites. The syrup is used for the treatment and prevention of helminthic infestations. The solution is dosed according to the weight of the animal and is packaged in disposable pipettes of 0.4 ml (up to 4 kg of cat weight) and 1 ml (with a weight of 4 to 10 kg).

Reviews from owners and veterinarians

Olga. I give Cestal-Kat once according to the instructions for preventive purposes, once every six months for a cat who does not leave the house, once every 3 months for kittens in the country. There are no side effects, I have no complaints about the medicine.

N. Kamenskaya, veterinarian

Cestal is a combined tablet against helminthiasis in domestic animals.

Two active substances in the composition act against nematodes and cestodes.

To ensure that there are no side effects after use, you must follow the dosage suggested by the instructions without exceeding it.

One unpleasant thing is that the application procedure is difficult.

Veterinarian Ivanov S.

Cestala is the normal choice for cats; it is safe, effective and conveniently dosed. The main thing is to buy it in specialized pharmacies, checking the expiration date and quality certificate. For an adult cat weighing 4 kg, you need to give one tablet.

Fighting worms is an unpleasant procedure; deworming must be carried out from birth, treatment and prevention must be carried out in a timely manner.

Instructions: use, dosage, contraindications

The dosage of Cestal is calculated based on the dog’s body weight.
Cestal for dogs, instructions for which are included with each package, is recommended not only for getting rid of parasites, but also for prevention purposes. The drug is prescribed by a veterinarian.

The dosage should be calculated based on the weight of the pet:

  • up to 2 kg – ¼ tablet;
  • 2-5 kg – ½ tablet;
  • 5-10 kg – 1 tablet;
  • for heavier weights, a tablet should be added for every 10 kg. You cannot take more than 5 tablets.

For prevention, the drug is given once in the morning with a small amount of food. To avoid refusal of the medicine, it is hidden in a treat. If the dog does not swallow the tablet, it is placed on the root of the tongue or mixed with water and poured into the mouth with a syringe.

The procedure must be repeated every 3 months. Prevention of helminthiasis begins for puppies at the age of 3 weeks. As a treatment, it is used symptomatically.

No complications were observed. In case of hypersensitivity, allergy manifestations are possible.

Not recommended in the first 2/3 of pregnancy for bitches, puppies up to 3 weeks. Concomitant use with piperazine is prohibited.

You should know! You can buy the drug over the counter, but it should still be recommended by a veterinarian. You should not take Cestal without consulting a specialist.
