Instructions for use of the drug Neosidine

Composition and pharmacological action

A broad-spectrum antiparasitic agent is produced in the form of a powder intended for preparing a solution for infections and a ready-to-use solution (Neosidin M).

The powder is packaged in sterile dark glass bottles of 2.36 mg, although other packaging is sometimes available. The bottle is tightly sealed with a rubber stopper and covered with aluminum foil.

A ready-made solution is a more convenient solution for getting rid of blood parasites. It is a transparent orange liquid, but is also packaged in 20, 50 and 100 ml in dark glass bottles. The sterile liquid is sealed with rubber stoppers.

Regardless of the form, the composition includes two components:

  1. Diminazene aceturate. The main feature is its antiprotozoal effect - increasing the permeability of the nucleus of protozoan organisms. Under the influence of the active substance, the cells of microorganisms that parasitize in the blood of the animal are destroyed.
  2. Phenazone. Antipyrine has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects. In addition, it helps reduce vascular permeability.

The complex effect of the components of the drug not only destroys parasites in the blood, but also strengthens blood vessels, reduces capillary fragility, and stops bleeding.

Description and characteristics of the product

Manufacturers call Neosidine a reliable and fast remedy for getting rid of blood parasites. At the same time, the medicine brings other benefits to the animal. The drug is available in the form of a dry powder. Color: bright yellow. It quickly dissolves in water and is used in injection form.

Neosidine contains only two active components:

  1. Diminazene diaceturate. Inhibits the population of parasites of several subspecies. The substance disrupts the oxygen supply of microorganisms at the cellular level, paralyzes and destroys them. The compound also has an antibacterial effect and slows down the growth of fungal infections. Share in Neozidine - 55%.
  2. Antipyrine. High-quality analgesic and antipyretic biochemical compound. Reduces vascular permeability, eliminates swelling and hemorrhage. Quantity - 45%.

Neosidine is bottled in darkened glass bottles with an airtight seal. Their capacity is convenient for further dosing of the solution. The minimum mass of the powder is 1.18 g. Its weight in a larger container is a multiple of this number. Maximum - 23.6 g.

The veterinary drug is stored only in the manufacturer's packaging. Duration: 2 years from the date of manufacture. The storage procedure is standard for medications. Instructions for use recommend t 0… 25ºС. After opening the cap, the powder should be used within 24 hours.

The active substances reach their highest concentration in the body 3-5 hours after administration and remain for 1 day. Neosidine tends to be deposited in the liver and kidneys. Therefore, it is important to strictly adhere to the dosage from the instructions for use. The medicine is excreted in urine and milk (in lactating species).

Indications for use

According to the instructions for use, Neosidin M and the powder form of the drug are used for dogs and other animals to treat blood parasitic diseases. Blood parasites can enter an animal’s body through tick bites or other routes and pose a serious danger. If measures are not taken in time, the pet may die. In this regard, if you notice a sharp deterioration in health, consult a doctor immediately. Do not self-medicate, as wasted time can cost the animal’s life.

Veterinarians prescribe medications to treat the following diseases:

  • piroplasmosis;
  • nuttalliosis;
  • theileriosis;
  • babesiosis;
  • francaillosis;
  • trypanosomiasis;
  • mixed invasions.

Usually the medicine is used in combination with vitamin and mineral supplements, drugs that support heart function and laxatives. Only complex therapy can defeat such serious enemies, and medications for basic and symptomatic treatment should be selected by a veterinarian.

Also, the medication can be used to prevent infection in the event of an epidemic or illness of one animal when kept together, for example, in a nursery.

Pregnant, lactating and puppies

To date, there have not been enough clinical studies that could confirm or refute the negative effect of the drug on the body of pregnant and lactating dogs, as well as on their offspring.

Therefore, the veterinarian prescribes the drug individually , taking into account the characteristics of each dog’s body. The same applies to puppies of any age.

The drug is not prescribed to Collie and Sheltie dogs.

Instructions for use

The medicine is administered to animals intramuscularly. If powder is used, a 7% solution is first prepared from it. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Add 12 ml of water for injection or saline solution to a vial of 2.36 mg powder using a sterile syringe.
  2. To infuse liquid, do not open the bottle, but simply pierce it with a needle.
  3. Shake well until the powder is completely dissolved.
  4. Fill the syringe with the required amount.

When using Neosidine M, you need to draw the drug into a sterile disposable syringe. Many dog lovers are interested in how many times to inject dogs with Neosidine. Since the medication is painful, it is recommended to administer a single dose in fractions, leaving an interval between injections of 1-2 hours, especially for the ready-made solution. If the dose exceeds 2.5 ml, injections must be given in several places.

Dosage

According to the instructions, Neosidine M (ready solution) is injected into dogs in a dosage of 0.5 ml of liquid per 10 kg of animal. When using powder, the dose is calculated based on the disease and the weight of the animal.

If piroplasmosis, nuttalliosis or francaiellosis is detected, the medicine is calculated as follows - 1 ml of the prepared solution per 20 kg of pet. When treating theileriosis, use 1.5 ml of the drug per 1 kg of animal. If trypanosomiasis is detected, the dosage of the drug should be 2.2 ml per 1 kg of weight.

Be sure to consult your doctor. Remember, an overdose will harm the body.

If the dog’s condition does not improve within 24 hours and the temperature remains elevated, the injection is repeated. For the purpose of prevention, the medication is used once in the recommended doses if one of the animals gets sick while being kept together, or when staying in a region with increased danger.

When using the medicine, it is important to follow several rules and recommendations:

  1. Follow the rules of asepsis.
  2. Before using an antiparasitic drug, the dog is given any antihistamine in the form of an injection.
  3. Sick animals should be provided with complete rest.
  4. When performing preventive injections for several animals, a new sterile syringe must be used for each pet.

If your pet's condition does not improve or, on the contrary, worsens, immediately go to the clinic.

Pharmacological properties

Neozidine has a wide spectrum of action against pathogens that parasitize red blood cells.

The action of the active substance diminazene is aimed at reducing oxygen and energy release in cells, as well as inhibiting cell division, which subsequently destroys and leads to the death of blood parasites.

Phenazone has an anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effect on the animal's body.

The drug, quickly absorbed and distributed throughout the tissues of the organs, reaches its maximum concentration 3-5 hours after the injection and maintains it throughout the day.

The accumulation of substances occurs in the liver and kidneys, and elimination occurs naturally through the urinary tract and intestines.

Contraindications and side effects

Although the drug is effectively used to treat blood parasitic diseases, in some cases it cannot be used. It should be used with caution in chronic diseases of internal organs - liver, kidneys, heart.

The drug is prohibited for animals with hypersensitivity. Its use should be avoided for Sheltie and Collie breeds. Clinical studies of the effect of the drug on pregnant bitches and young animals have not been conducted, so the doctor determines possible risks and decides on the use of the drug during pregnancy and for puppies in each individual case.

Swelling sometimes occurs at the injection site, which goes away on its own within a few days. In case of an overdose, a dog may experience the following side effects:

  • convulsions;
  • chills;
  • allergic reactions;
  • nausea and vomiting;
  • disorders of the nervous system;
  • muscle spasms;
  • anxiety.

Depending on the condition of the animal, calcium supplements and means for symptomatic treatment can be used.

Owner reviews

Oksana, owner of the chow-chow:

“After the tick bite, our dog’s condition worsened significantly. It just started to fade before our eyes. He lay down, didn’t get up, didn’t want to eat. We rushed to the hospital. There we were given a Neosidine injection without any tests. A couple of hours later, our beloved pet died. I don’t know whether the incompetent doctors or the strong effect of the poisonous medicine are more to blame.”

Tatyana, owner of the yard dog:

“Our dog began to behave strangely - he ate poorly, became aggressive, and constantly hid in the booth. Later I managed to find ticks on it. The condition kept getting worse. A neighbor who has knowledge of veterinary medicine gave me an injection of Neosidine and some kind of hepatoprotector. In the morning the dog began to have convulsions and the heart rate increased. The animal died in agony a couple of hours later. I cannot recommend the drug, it is very dangerous.”

Victoria, Spitz owner:

“We used neosidine in complex therapy in the treatment of piroplasmosis. Improvements in the dog’s health appeared only on the third day, but we still managed to defeat this deadly disease thanks to an inexpensive injection from a domestic manufacturer.”

Directions for use and doses

"Neosidine" is prescribed for a one-time intramuscular injection in a dosage depending on the weight of the animal:

  • for babebiosis, Franceillosis, nuttaliosis, a one-time intramuscular injection is prescribed at the rate of 0.5 ml for every 10 kg of weight;
  • for theileriosis, a one-time intramuscular injection is prescribed at the rate of 0.8 ml for every 10 kg of weight;
  • for trypanosomiasis, a one-time intramuscular injection is prescribed at the rate of 1.1 ml for every 10 kg of weight.

If there is no therapeutic effect, a second administration of the solution at the dose of the first administration is required a day later.

The drug is used in the form of a 7% solution for intramuscular injections in animals.

A 7% solution is prepared by adding a 0.9% sodium chloride solution (saline) inside the bottle; dilution with special sterile water for injection is also allowed.

Saline solution/water is added to the bottle in an amount of 12.5 ml for the entire volume of powder.

Important! The prepared medicinal product must not be heated in any way; boiling is also unacceptable.

The prepared solution can be stored at room temperature, but not exceeding two days (48 hours).

Storing the solution in a refrigerator is permissible for 4 days (96 hours).

During treatment, the animal is given rest.

If there are concomitant manifestations of the disease, treatment is prescribed to relieve the symptoms that appear (for example, fever or acute manifestations of allergies).

As a prophylactic measure, Neosidine is administered twice in an amount of 0.5 ml for every 10 kg of pet weight with a break of 10–15 days.

Shelf life and storage conditions

Storage of "Neozidine" provides for the following conditions:

  • lack of direct sunlight;

Did you know? It is not so much the antiprotozoal (antiparasitic) drugs that have a toxic effect on the animal’s body, but rather the breakdown products of the cells of the blood parasites themselves.

If a solution or substance gets on the skin or mucous membranes, immediate and copious rinsing with ordinary running water is required.

If allergic reactions occur, immediate contact with a medical facility is required.

Side effects

When using the drug Neosidin®, some animals experience a local reaction in the form of hyperemia or painful swelling at the injection site, which spontaneously disappears within a few days. Dogs may experience seizures, ataxia, vomiting, and muscle tremors.

In case of an overdose of the drug, the animal may experience bradycardia, increased and impaired breathing, anorexia, and tremor. In these cases, the animal is prescribed symptomatic therapy.
