Hepatovet is a complex hepatoprotector for the treatment and prevention of liver diseases in dogs and cats in the form of a suspension. 1 ml of suspension contains as active components: essential phospholipids - 60 mg, methionine - 100 mg, L-ornithine - 50 mg, milk thistle extract - 15 mg, immortelle herb extract - 15 mg and excipients. In appearance it is a homogeneous suspension with a specific odor for oral use. Packaged in dark plastic bottles of 35 and 50 ml, which are packed in cardboard boxes along with a dosing syringe or measuring cup.
In what cases should it be used?
Before giving your cat medicine, you should determine the need for this drug. Due to the fact that Hepatovet combines well with other medications, it is often included in complex therapy. The main indications for use are :
- the presence of an infectious or somatic disease in the cat;
- manifestation of symptoms of liver damage;
- exo- and endotoxicosis.
When treating a cat, Hepatovet is often included in complex therapy with anthelmintics. The active components of the drug help alleviate the animal’s condition and prevent deterioration of the liver. In addition, the suspension is good for relieving intoxication.
Pharmacological properties
Hepatovet improves the functional state of the liver, especially the organ’s ability to bind and remove toxic compounds, preserves and restores the structure of liver cells, accelerates the process of restoration of already damaged heptocytes, and normalizes the ammonia content in the body of animals. Essential phospholipids stop the development of tissue fibrosis, have antioxidant activity, perform a transport function, and increase the activity of enzyme systems. The essential amino acid methionine has a hepatoprotective effect, activates the action of a number of hormones, vitamins and enzymes, reduces the concentration of cholesterol in the blood and increases the content of phospholipids. L-ornithine restores liver cells and is involved in the process of binding and removing ammonia from the body. Milk thistle extract is characterized by high antioxidant activity, has a membrane-stabilizing property on liver cells, increases the functional ability of liver cells to synthesize, detoxify and excrete various biological products, and supports the resistance of hepatocytes to various pathogenic influences. Immortelle extract reduces pain in the right hypochondrium, eliminates flatulence and colic. Hepatovet, in terms of the degree of impact on the body of warm-blooded animals, is a low-hazard substance and in recommended doses does not have embryotoxic, teratogenic, carcinogenic or sensitizing effects.
Indications for use
Hepatovet is used in the treatment of a variety of liver diseases associated with a weakening of its protective and metabolic function. Indications for this drug include the following conditions :
- severe poisoning, when a large amount of toxic substances enters the body that the animal’s liver cannot cope with;
- hepatosis, which disrupts metabolism;
- cirrhosis of the liver, in which there is excessive growth of dense tissue inside the organ, interfering with its normal functioning;
- hepatitis, accompanied by inflammatory processes in the liver;
- lipidosis, characterized by excessive growth of fatty deposits on the organ;
- infectious diseases - in which the liver suffers not only from the influence of pathogenic microorganisms, but is also weakened by the effects of medications;
- infection with helminths, the waste products of which poison the body.
In addition to treating diseases, Hepatovet can also be prescribed as an adjunct to reduce the side effects of other medications. It is prescribed in conjunction with medications that have a bad effect on the liver, as well as after chemotherapy during the recovery period.
Doses and method of use Hepatovet-suspension for the treatment of liver in cats

Side effects
If you use Hepatovet strictly according to the instructions and in accordance with the recommendations of the veterinarian, there will be no side effects. Some cat owners panic when the cat's salivation increases after using the medicine, but the manufacturer assures that such a reaction to the hepatoprotector is normal. This goes away without any intervention.
Increased salivation is not a side effect
Personal prevention measures
When using a hepatoprotector, the cat owner must follow the safety rules:
- Before starting to work with the drug and after finishing, you need to wash your hands with soap;
- Only a clean spoon should be used to administer the medicine;
- if the cat's owner is allergic to any component of the medication, it is necessary to wear gloves when working;
- You can use a medical mask.
My father's side of the family passed on to me a tendency toward allergies of various kinds, so I have a special relationship with medications. However, I don’t use gloves: allergies do not affect the skin in any way, and besides, they are uncomfortable, especially when working with a cat. But I have to use a medical mask, since a reaction can occur specifically to volatile substances. If the mask breaks or becomes unusable, I use a bandage folded in several layers.
How it works
The liver is the largest gland in the body. In cats, like other animals, it plays an important role because it produces enzymes for breaking down food. At the same time, toxins and other harmful substances accumulate in the liver, which negatively affect its functioning. Hepatovet provides support to this organ when natural processes are disrupted or exposed to external factors.
The advantages of the domestic drug include a complex effect due to the composition:
- Phospholipids promote the restoration of liver cells and protect their membranes. They normalize metabolism, stabilize water balance, increase the production of enzymes, and prevent the degeneration of liver cells into fat cells.
- L-ornithine starts the regeneration process, and also helps reduce ammonia levels in the body, normalizes the production of acid and alkali.
- Methionine promotes protein activity, increases phospholipid levels and lowers cholesterol levels. Prevents the accumulation of fat in the liver and has a detoxifying effect.
- Milk thistle extract helps remove toxic substances from the body. It has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antioxidant properties. Restores organ function.
- Immortelle extract has a choleretic effect. Prevents bile stagnation. Relieves inflammation and reduces pain.
The drug is a safe medicine, as it does not have a toxic effect on the body. With long-term use, it is not addictive and does not have embryotoxic or carcinogenic effects.
Price and analogues
One bottle of medicine in a volume of 25 ml will cost around 300 rubles.
Gepatovet, as a medicine for oral use in the form of a suspension, has no analogues among domestic manufacturers.
Based on its purpose, you can find drugs, but only for injection.
Hepatovet for cats is a unique product that has no analogues on the domestic market of animal medicines. It is the only one produced in the form of a suspension, which is very convenient to use. But it is recommended to use this medicine only as prescribed by a veterinarian. Because violating the dosage and using it incorrectly can harm your pet.

Spiders are best suited for this; they smell similar and are quite liquid. Ours was accustomed to natural medicine, and here, in the third week of treatment, problems began to arise: the cat stopped liking the taste of Hepatovet and had to use his imagination to push the medicine in. But it was worth it. After the course of treatment, the cat became more mobile, and his stomach, especially where the liver used to protrude, became smaller.

Preparing the cat for sterilization. They donated blood and the doctor advised me to start giving Hepatovet. It happened yesterday morning, I immediately wrote to the children, they bought the medicine when I came home from work, gave her the second dose, and this morning the third. And the cat suddenly began to eat intensely. In the evening they poured her a full bowl (drying RK for coons), in the morning the bowl was empty - this has never happened before. In the morning I poured a new portion for her - I attacked the food as if she had not been fed for a week.
