The main direction of the nursery is breeding dogs of classic, rare and designer breeds, both decorative and service

Today, many dog breeders prefer to have puppies for beauty, aesthetics and love, since they do not require a special approach to training, daily sports training and the need to live on the street as a guard. In order to develop a new decorative variety, a calm, independent Husky was crossed with a miniature Spitz. As a result, a stunning Pomsky breed was born, which immediately gained love and popularity on the Internet. A pretty appearance and a kind character are the main qualities of a furry, four-legged friend.

Story

According to some rumors, the development of the Pomsky breed arose by accident. A netizen was looking for an answer to the question of what kind of character a husky-pomeranian mix has, as well as possible propensities for diseases in these animals. Since these dogs are of different sizes, heated debate arose about the further development of the new breed.

The Internet began to become overgrown with legends and fictitious photographs of mestizo, but the images were far from the original. Master breeders began to try to breed this breed.

Thanks to the experiments, the Husky-Pomeranian mix was first born in 2011, in the city of Burnsville. Breeder Teresa Peterson, who breeds huskies, after two years of experiments, had her first successful litter. On the puppy’s face there was a mask characteristic of a husky, and the dimensions were inherited from the Spitz.

Having learned about the new breed, many dog breeders followed the example of the American breeder. For this reason, there was a need to create a special office to control their activities. The organization was subsequently given the name “The Pomsky Club of America.” The institution is engaged in breeding and wants this type of dog to become an independent breed.

Pomsky character

One of the features of hybrid breeds, including Pomskys, is that they take the best qualities and character traits inherent in the dogs participating in the selection. It is difficult to predict the character of a future pet with high accuracy, since the dominant gene of one of the parents has the main influence on its formation. But in general, both the Pomeranian and the Siberian Husky have similar traits. We can say with confidence that the Pomsky dog:

  • cheerful, cheerful;
  • playful, active, lively;
  • balanced;
  • curious;
  • friendly;
  • brave, regardless of size.

The Pomsky has inherited the Spitz's devotion to its owner - it is a wonderful friend and companion. He loves to be the center of attention and participate in all family events. He chooses one family member for himself and demonstrates his affection and love in every possible way. Loves to “talk” with his owner. An affectionate and careful pet will get along well with children and will not harm them even accidentally. Gets along well with other pets, with the exception of rodents (hamster, guinea pig, decorative rabbit). The dog perceives them as a toy or prey. Pomskies are vigilant, not devoid, like huskies, of the instinct to protect the owner and property. They are not inclined to show aggression, but they cannot be called timid either.

A pet may inherit love and an obsessive desire to constantly be near from its Spitz dad, or a wayward and independent character from its husky mom. The desire to mischief, chew things and constantly run away can also be inherited on the maternal side.

Breeding

The main question that interests breeders is how to cross two dogs of different sizes. Internet users have many opinions on this matter. Of course, owners do not participate in the mating of dogs; everything is much simpler. Hybrids are created by artificial insemination of a female husky. But not the other way around. If you do it differently, the Spitz girl simply cannot stand large puppies. In 70% of cases, they undergo a caesarean section after carrying cubs of their breed.

First litter puppies are in great demand. Mating a Husky with a Spitz artificially is carried out once, after which everything happens naturally.

The first generation has a more or less predictable character, but from the second the puppies acquire distinctive features, and the options will be very diverse.

Mating

To get a first-generation hybrid, parents of different breeds are bred - Pomeranian and Husky. At the same time, a husky bitch is chosen as the future mother, and a Spitz male is chosen as the father, and not vice versa. The puppies, regardless of the choice of parents, will be of average size, but a small Spitz mother would not be able to carry and give birth to them, and moreover, the number of puppies would be less than that of a large Husky mother.

The mating process itself is difficult due to the different sizes of the animals: huskies reach a height of 60 cm at the withers, and Spitzes are only 30. There are jokes among Internet users that when placing a male Spitz on a female husky, the owner has to support him. In fact, in nurseries the animals are not planted, but the husky bitch is inseminated with the sperm of a Spitz dog.

Second-generation hybrids are obtained by mating two Pomskys, with the “wedding” occurring naturally.

Education and training

It is recommended to start raising a dog from puppyhood. When training, the owner must have a patient and firm character, otherwise the dog will become spoiled and will not respond to commands. At an early age, the pet begins to develop instincts, on the basis of which the educational process is built.

With the right attitude towards training, the breed responds well and becomes more pliable. During training, force should not be used under any circumstances. The dog is capable of being offended and showing the stubborn character inherited from the husky.

Description and features

Hybridization of different dog breeds is not a new phenomenon. This method was used at different times, firstly, to improve existing species, and secondly, to obtain unique working properties of dogs.

Why was the Pomsky breed ? The answer is for good-natured companionship. Such a dog has a unique and inimitable character, and his appearance attracts attention. Such an animal pleases its owner with its childlike spontaneity, goodwill and playfulness.

From the Pomeranian Spitz he got a lush scruff, a mischievous disposition and a desire to constantly have fun, and from a husky he got endurance, cheerfulness and unique bright eyes. This hybrid inherited only the best qualities from representatives of these two breeds. And some breeders even claim that he is devoid of shortcomings.

The Pomsky is a unique dog with pronounced sociable inclinations. She loves her owners very much and is always close to them. Prefers to have fun in company rather than alone. Quite vulnerable, very gentle and affectionate.

A huge advantage of such a pet is its stable psyche. He won't attack every stranger like a pit bull or run around the house like a Bichon Frize. This dog is perfectly controllable, as it has good training skills. He is smart and inquisitive.

But these are not all the advantages of such a mestizo. He has excellent immunity, is quite healthy and physically strong. Not susceptible to any genetic diseases. These little dogs are a joy to watch. They are friendly and playful at the same time. They communicate well with people, do not conflict or bully.

Outwardly, the Pomsky is similar to the one whose genes predominate in greater quantities

Who is this pet suitable for? We recommend getting one for those who need a four-legged friend and can devote enough time to him, from several hours a day. This is a benevolent and loving creature that needs systematic interaction with people. He will happily keep them company in nature or in the supermarket, and is easy to carry by hand.

Nutrition

A puppy of the first litter often has digestive problems, for this reason it is strictly forbidden to give him dry food. As the dog grows, the veterinarian lifts the ban, and then only if the food is of good quality.

Since dogs of this breed are active, their diet must be provided with a sufficient amount of vitamins and microelements. If the breeder decides to feed the animal natural food, then vitamin mixtures are introduced into the diet. It is not recommended to choose supplements yourself; this is done by veterinarians.

Ask a Question

You should not include smoked foods, sweets, spicy and salty foods in your diet.

Health and illness

In veterinary medicine there is a concept - hybrid resistance. This means that mixed breeds do not inherit the diseases of their ancestors if their parents are Huskies and Pomeranians. But this does not mean that dogs of this species do not have diseases.

Common ailments that this breed is prone to:

  • tartar;
  • allergies.

To ensure that the animal is not prone to other pathologies or has a low predisposition, it is necessary to provide timely care and vaccinations.

Maintenance and care

For proper care, the main thing is to visit the veterinarian in a timely manner and follow the principles of proper nutrition.

Nutrition

Nature has endowed Pomskies with a fast metabolism and a “strong” stomach, so a special diet is not required. Changes in diet are resorted to only in case of regular participation in various competitions and events.

Mestizos eat simple food. The optimal diet should consist of the following products:

  • lean meat, boiled offal;
  • rice or oatmeal porridge;
  • boiled or steamed seasonal vegetables;
  • low-fat fermented milk products.

The simplest option is to switch to premium dry food. They contain a vitamin-mineral complex and natural ingredients. At the same time, dry kibble helps puppies sharpen their strong teeth.

Dry food should be introduced into the diet gradually. It is better to start at a young age, giving the puppy minimal portions of a few grams.

Hygiene

The fur perfectly protects them from dirt, dust and high humidity, so there is no need for frequent bathing. It is enough to perform skincare procedures a couple of times a month using special detergents. Then the hairs are dried with a soft towel and dried with a hairdryer on low heat.

Thick coats need to be combed, especially during shedding periods. In normal times, comb out a couple of times every 7 days.

You also need to keep an eye on the ears and eyes. Regularly clean them of secretions with a cotton swab. In this case, it is better not to use special cleaning products so as not to injure the mucous membrane.

Health and illness

Teeth and eyes are especially vulnerable. Over time, tartar or tooth decay may develop and can be easily treated. By maturity, the former acuity of vision and smell is lost. Allergic reactions may also develop, so you need to monitor your diet. The most dangerous thing is genetic diseases transmitted from parents.

Mating

In most cases, Pomskies are bred artificially by inseminating a Husky bitch with genetic material from a Pomeranian male. When mating mestizos, fertilization occurs naturally. The only thing is that the parents must be of the same subspecies.

Walks

The average duration of a walk is at least 1.5 hours twice a day with a light jog. This will be enough to satisfy the Pomsky's innate need for freedom. In the opposite situation, the pet will not be upset if it stays at home.

Advantages and disadvantages

Although the breed has only recently been bred, breeders have already identified a number of advantages and disadvantages for it.

Pros:

  • the dog has a beautiful appearance;
  • easy to train;
  • unobtrusive;
  • friendly;
  • devoted to the owner.

Flaws:

  • requires constant grooming and physical activity;
  • tartar forms in the oral cavity;
  • Mestizos do not bark, but howl.

Selection rules

Before buying puppies, you need to make an appointment with the breeder and get acquainted with the care of the pets - whether they receive enough attention, what are the living conditions in which they live and their state of health. You also need to talk to the seller and find out from him when the mating took place, look at the pedigree and medical record, and find out what the animal was fed. In case of evasive answers, it is worth considering whether to take a puppy from such a person.

Ask a Question

The first thing you should pay attention to is the activity of a small dog, and not the beautiful coloring, although the color and well-groomed appearance of the hair coat is also an important factor.

The puppy must have:

  • soft, clean wool;
  • clean eyes, ears, nose without discharge or stains;
  • not bloated belly;
  • activity, but not aggressiveness in movements;
  • no redness of the skin.

There is no need to buy a dog without a pedigree. Otherwise, there will be a risk of acquiring a sick and aggressive pet.

Puppy cost

In Russia, crossbred dogs can only be purchased on the market or from private owners.

When buying a puppy secondhand, the only document you can get is a veterinary passport. The certificate confirming the breed is marked by the UCI, which must be obtained in America. So most likely it won't happen.

Ask a Question

The price of puppies depends on the litter of the animal. The cost of the first generation starts from 150 thousand rubles, and the second from 100 thousand. The seller, as a rule, does not write the cost of the animal, which means it is possible to bargain to the minimum.

Dimensions and weight

The height of the Pomsky at the withers reaches a maximum of 40 cm, and the body weight of representatives of this breed depends on the generation of the litter and the weight of the parents.

So, dogs of the first generation weigh on average 4-12 kg, and of the second - from 4 to 10 kg.

Mixed breeds have pronounced sexual dimorphism - males are taller and heavier than females.

The approximate weight of an adult Pomsky can be determined by adding the weight of both parents and dividing the resulting figure in half..

Nurseries

There are not many organizations in Russia that distribute this type of dog. One nursery is located in Moscow. The breed itself is popularized and bred there. That is, they are trying to breed dogs with special character traits that are resistant to various types of disease.

Kennels pay special attention to the vaccination of dogs. Typically, the vaccine is supplied by the best pharmaceutical companies.

The breed is registered in specialized clubs in America, as well as in the association. If the buyer doubts the origin of the dog, DNA tests are carried out.

Official websites of nurseries can be found on the Internet, where you can also find detailed information and offers from companies. When purchasing a pet, a sales contract is issued. The buyer also has the right to receive an information document about vaccinations (how many and when they were done) and the exact age of the animal.

If necessary, it is possible to obtain advice on the rules of care or treatment throughout the pet’s life.

Interesting facts from the life of dogs

Four-legged creatures have a huge number of features, some of which have never even been thought of. A few of them:

  1. In fact, mestizo people really don't like hugs.
  2. Due to irregular hygiene, bacteria accumulate on these dogs' paws and they begin to smell like chips. So, when you smell a scent, there is no need to rush to scold your animal.
  3. These dogs have excellent hearing. This helps them navigate faster in case of danger (for example, when a storm is approaching).
  4. Before doing anything, the dog waits for permission from the leader.
