Top 20 most beautiful dogs in the world (+photo)

The current record holder is the border collie Cassie.

The fattest dog in the world is the border collie Cassie. Due to its enormous weight for the breed (58 kilograms), it was included in the Guinness Book of Records. The animal, eating chips, sweets, fried fish, potatoes, and meat, weighed almost three times more than normal! Not all fat people carry that much extra weight.

The dog could hardly move and also suffered from shortness of breath.

After registering the record, the owner was ordered through the court to ensure that the pet lost weight to normal size. Cassie was sent to a shelter where she was deprived of unhealthy, junk food. They also forced me to move, subjecting me to good physical activity, and also developed a special diet. Although the collie has not yet lost weight to a normal level, she is actively moving towards this through the efforts of the shelter workers. So far we have achieved that Cassie moves on her own. The treatment lasts for a year, so let's hope that the dog will be able to lead a healthy, fulfilling life after that.

Dalmatian

A large breed of dog originally from Croatia. Dalmatians are distinguished by their spotted color. The white short fur usually has distinct black or brown spots. Eye color – light or dark brown, rarely blue. Drop ears are set high.

The shade of the nose always matches the color of the spots, which is considered a feature of the breed. The body proportions of the Dolmatian are quite harmonious. A strong body and long, stable paws make the breed quite hardy. The height of dogs ranges from 54-62 cm. Body weight averages 25-30 kg.

Other fattest dogs

The Internet is not only full of Cassie - there are, unfortunately, many other dogs who, through the efforts of their owners, have turned into walking bedside tables on thin legs.

Here's a small list:

What are the smallest dog breeds?

  1. Hooch – Rottweiler, 133 kg. The dog had to eat as much as 5 cans of food to feel comfortable. Doctors came to the rescue. With their help, Hooch lost 45 kg; now he only needs one power bank.
  2. Kila – bulldog 50 kg. This pet has a sweet tooth, loves cookies, and also eats pasta. Participates in one of the UK shows where animals are helped to lose weight. Another such “friend in misfortune” is the Taytay dachshund, which, although it weighs 6 kg, is really quite a lot given the size of this breed. And the love for chocolate turned out to be to blame for everything.
  3. Labrador Alfie – 79 kg. Once upon a time, the dog managed to conquer the British ranking of the fattest dogs: Alfie’s weight was three times higher than the norm, which is why he practically did not move. It was then that the help of veterinarians was needed, who prescribed the Labrador a diet, after which he regained his slender body.
  4. A Labrador named Samson weighed eighty-five kilograms. Another record-breaking Labrador; his weight was twice the norm - Samson was also the fattest dog, but in Australia.
  5. Cocker spaniel Millie, her weight is 33 kg. In due time, the owners came to their senses, and the dog is now a participant in the TV show “Pet Fit Club”, where pets like her are helped to regain a healthy weight.
  6. A 66-kilogram Doberman named Bear. The dog’s owners didn’t seem to care about him at all: they didn’t even cut his nails! In a neglected state, the animal ended up in a shelter, where they helped him return to normal weight and switch to healthy food.
  7. The dachshund, named Obi, weighed 35 kg. At one time, the owners fed the pet to an unacceptable weight for the breed; the dog could barely move. Later, the dachshund ended up in the hands of truly caring owners and, thanks to their efforts, she lost as much as 23 kg. Now Obi lives a full life and eats well.
  8. Dalmatian Barney, weighs 70 kg. Chips, chocolate - this is the diet of this dog. It is not clear what the owner was thinking, but, fortunately, Barney fell into good hands, which helped the dog lead a healthy lifestyle. Now the weight is normal - 25 kg.
  9. A seventeen-kilogram dachshund named Vincent. Not only are dachshunds themselves predisposed to excess weight, but their previous owners (unfortunately deceased) fed them incorrectly. As a result, the dog developed high cholesterol and difficulty moving. A good family took him from the shelter and helped the dog lose weight to 7 kg.
  10. Buddy is an 82-pound shepherd. Having fallen into the hands of good housewives, the shepherd lost weight to 36 kg. This is a truly impressive result, because at one time even a couple of steps for a dog was something impossible.

The largest dog breeds

Large dogs can be classified in different ways: by body weight or height at the withers. This is due to the fact that not all large dogs have a large mass. For example, Great Danes are large, but they weigh little compared to mastiffs or St. Bernards, and Irish wolfhounds and deerhounds are generally lightweight, but in height they can compete with many more massive brothers.

The largest existing breeds are considered to be the following:

  1. English Mastiff. These dogs are considered the tallest and at the same time the heaviest representatives of the canines. Their height reaches 90 cm, and their body weight averages 100–110 kg. This giant animal is full of love and good nature. It can be considered one of the best pets, taking into account, of course, its considerable size.
  2. German dog. This is as large a dog as the English Mastiff, which is not surprising, since both breeds have common roots. Unlike the mastiff, the Great Dane has more graceful body contours; it can reach a height of 85–90 cm. Breed standards require a minimum size of 72 cm for a female and 82 cm for a male. They actually require a separate room to live in.
  3. The Tibetan Mastiff is a respectable dog, very similar to a heavily overgrown fluffy bear. This is a very ancient and mysterious breed, which was known back in Hellas times and was highly valued even in that period. The dogs are strong, powerful, but good-natured and easy-going, which has made them popular all over the world. Because of their thick fur, they appear larger than they actually are: they are 60–78 cm tall, and their weight ranges from 60 to 80 kg, depending on their gender.
  4. The Pyrenean Mastiff is another ancient breed, an excellent shepherd and watchdog. They were known already a thousand years BC, but were recognized as a separate breed only in the middle of the last century. They weigh about 70–75 kg and range in height from 72 to 81 cm. Despite their considerable size, they are kind and loyal dogs with a gentle character. They adore their family and are wary of strangers, but are not prone to aggression.
  5. Cane Corso. This handsome guy was bred by the ancient Romans, or rather, he comes from dogs of that time period. This is not just a reliable security guard, but also a protector of his family and its property. He is fit and muscular, and looks slimmer with his smooth, iridescent dark coat. The normal height at the withers for males is 74 cm, for females - 64 cm, weight - 50 and 45 kg, respectively.
  6. The Saint Bernard is one of the most famous large dog breeds. The dogs were bred in the Alps, in the monastery of St. Bernard, as rescuers and guides. Numerous breeds took part in their breeding, including the rare Tibetan Mastiff. An adult male can grow up to 90 cm.
  7. Newfoundland. The famous “diver” has a complex biography. His ancestors were brought to the New World, to Newfoundland, where large dogs “worked” as fishermen’s assistants, pulling heavy nets full of fish ashore, carrying loads and even acting as nannies. These peaceful, shaggy “bears” reach a height of 66 cm and a weight of 68 kg. Thick and fluffy fur adds volume to them, as does a large forehead.
  8. Leonberger. This is not the most familiar breed to the average person, which looks more like a lion than a dog. It has German roots, and it got its name from the city, which has a lion on its coat of arms. There are many breeds mixed in the animal’s blood, mainly herding and guard breeds. The result was a beautiful, large and imposing dog, somewhat similar to the king of beasts, but with an exceptionally soft and docile, peaceful character. Leonbergers are considered perhaps the best pet among the largest breeds.
  9. Central Asian Shepherd Dog (Alabai). This dog also has kinship with Tibetan Mastiffs and an ancient history. Its blood contains admixtures of many Asian breeds and even Mesopotamian war dogs, which is obviously reflected in the aggressive nature of the Alabai. The male must be at least 70 cm tall and weigh 50 kg. Bitches are smaller and lighter: 65 cm and 40 kg, respectively.
  10. The Deerhound is a Scottish deerhound. The main advantage of a hunting dog should be its speed of movement so that it can compete in a race with a deer. Therefore, the greyhound has a light bone structure and a lean, “dry” body. She weighs only about 45 kg, but her height reaches 76 cm.
  11. Irish Wolfhound. This unusual dog, which looks oddly unkempt due to its shaggy gray coat, has a very ancient history, because it was bred by ancient Celtic tribes. These are tall, strong and fast dogs, but not too heavy, since their ancestors were still greyhounds.
  12. The Russian greyhound also weighs a little - about 40–60 kg, but in height it can compete with other representatives. It reaches 86 cm at the withers.

Large dogs have certain characteristics that must be taken into account by people who want to have such a pet.

Which breeds are considered the thickest?

Forewarned is forearmed; When choosing a pet, be sure to check whether the breed has an innate tendency to be overweight, so that you can be prepared to precisely control the diet.

An extra lap of jogging is better than ten kilograms

  • Dachshunds. Funny little dogs with short legs may well become an ottoman scurrying around the house if you don’t watch their diet. The breed is indeed quite prone to obesity. Play with the dog, make him move.
  • Bulldogs. It is difficult to imagine a representative of this breed as miniature and thin. A large build is a characteristic feature of the breed. All these dogs are great lovers of food, so in addition to their menacing muzzle and well-developed sternum, you can also see their belly.
  • Cocker spaniels. They are always hungry to eat! They can be compared to a pillow, especially if the dog is full. Do not deprive them of physical activity and be less fooled by requests for food.
  • Dalmatians. Another food lovers. It is difficult to imagine that beautiful, active dogs of this breed are leaders among obese dogs. They have a bad habit - a constant desire to chew something. The owners need to control this, otherwise, instead of a pet, they will soon acquire a walking - or no longer - bedside table.
  • Basset hounds. A sedentary breed with a charming gaze, always unhurried and calm. If you fatten it up, it will be difficult to move: the belly can easily outgrow the short legs, which is why it will turn out, if not a sausage, then something like a ball. It’s worth chasing them down the street often and making them run: you need to unwind, and at the same time burn a hundred or two calories.
  • Rottweilers. Another breed whose representatives usually do not look skinny. Seeing such a powerful dog, you cannot help but notice the round sides. As dogs age, they become less and less mobile, and with a poorly planned diet, they also become impressive in size.

Is the problem of obesity a scourge not only for people?

Unfortunately yes. There is only one undeniable difference: in nine out of ten cases, obesity is the choice of the people themselves; we are not talking about obesity due to illness. With pets it's different; you must admit, they basically eat what they are fed, so it’s not them and the hungry look that are to blame, but the compassionate owners. You need to understand that fat dogs are not only unsightly, but also dangerous for their own lives.

In Europe, this is well monitored - they are punished by the court and obliged to return the pet to shape

Bobtail

A large breed of dog that was bred in Great Britain. The Bobtail is characterized not only by its large size, but also by long, thick fur that completely covers the dog’s body. The color is usually gray-blue or white; puppies with black markings are less common.

Medium sized floppy ears. The oval eyes are set wide apart. They can be either light or dark. The body and head itself are quite massive. The bobtail's height is 50-55 cm, and its weight is 30-40 kg. The coat is thick, long and wavy. A good undercoat provides reliable protection from bad weather.

Causes and consequences

Perhaps a plump dog trotting on thin legs is funny, but it is also dangerous. Think twice before feeding him something tasty, fried, or out of order again.

In general, the main reasons for this phenomenon are the following:

  • overfeeding;
  • little physical activity;
  • innate tendency.

No matter how much it may seem to you that your pet is too thin and small, do not follow his lead. This is the easiest way to protect him from health problems. You must determine the right amount of food and stick to it. Be sure to make sure your dog doesn't get sick: this can also cause obesity. For example, this happens due to problems with the thyroid gland, gastrointestinal tract, stress and hormonal imbalances. Be sure to check for worms and other parasites.

If it is difficult to understand on your own what and how much to feed, then you should seek advice from a veterinarian.

What awaits an obese animal?

  • dyspnea;
  • problems with the liver, pancreas;
  • diabetes;
  • diseases of the limbs, joints, their overload;
  • risk of early death;
  • coat problems, sunken sides, difficulty moving.
