Alimony puppy: what does it mean when buying?

Breeding dogs is a troublesome and responsible business, and also quite expensive. As a rule, two parties take part in it - the owners of purebred males and females. The only exceptions are kennels where all dogs belong to the same owner. In other cases, animal owners have the right to count on their share of the profits in the future litter. It just so happened that the owner of a male dog is given the right to receive money or the best puppy for breeding. Today we will talk about what a maintenance puppy means and how to choose it correctly.

Legal transaction

Surely many dog breeders have heard the expression “alimony puppy”. Not everyone knows what this is. The owners of the dog and the bitch enter into a transaction in which they are interested parties. Usually this is an oral agreement that the owner of a male dog receives a child support for the participation of his dog in breeding. According to the current rules, the owner of a male dog of any breed can choose any puppy from the litter or receive money for it.

This order is quite justified when it comes to a fairly common breed of dog. In the case where an agreement is concluded on the mating of rare and expensive animals, a real civil act or a referral for mating is drawn up.

In this case, such a document carefully provides for all the subtleties and surprises (after all, in this case we are talking about a natural process) and stipulates the conditions under which both parties will satisfy their interests.

Rules for the preparation of all documents

Not all dog breeders correctly understand how to understand the expression “alimony puppy”. Therefore, before mating, it is recommended to draw up a deal that takes into account the wishes of the interested parties. Most often it is a verbal agreement.

In addition, you can enter into an agreement in writing with confirmation from a lawyer. This will help to avoid difficulties and conflict situations in the future.

Registration of mating

Practice shows that not all owners of purebred pets know how to draw up documents for the mating itself and register the offspring. If this is not done, then the newborns may be left without a pedigree, and the owner of the dog may be left without remuneration.

Therefore, before the date, brides and grooms need to receive a referral for mating (the act of mating) from the appropriate club. The paper is issued after providing copies of the pedigree of the female and male, diplomas from exhibitions and championships. After this, mating can be carried out.

Metrics for a puppy

Receiving a puppy card confirms the origin of the pet and contains complete information about it. The metric contains information about the name, gender, breed, coat color, and brand.

In addition, the card must contain information about the parents of the newborn with the numbers of their pedigrees. This primary document is a kind of birth certificate. Puppy cards are issued in cynological organizations and certified nurseries.

Contract and agreement of the parties

Documents drawn up in writing must take into account all possible surprises and nuances of the process of mating, gestation, birth and the first weeks of life of pets. The contract is drawn up so that the owners are completely confident in the legality of the rights to receive one individual from the offspring.

The document must contain the following information:

  • owner and dog data;
  • the right (sometimes also the criteria) to choose one baby;
  • number of pets given away;
  • cost and form of payment, if any.

After birth, all offspring should be examined by a veterinarian. He issues an official document indicating the number of newborns and their conformity to the breed. The doctor also records information about the health and gender of the babies.

Agreement or direction for mating

Many owners want to know what gives them the right to hope to own a foster puppy. What kind of document is this that confirms their right to the baby?

In the order for mating (or in the contract), all the conditions are usually prescribed, the observance of which will allow the owner of the male dog to be guaranteed to receive the coveted puppy:

— form of payment; — the number of puppies in the litter (without defects), which must be confirmed by an official examination report from a veterinarian; — the right of the owner of a male dog to pick up a puppy within a specified period after its birth.

We probably need to dwell on the second point in more detail, since some, for example, are interested in: “Eight puppies were born - how many are child support?” Regardless of the number of babies born, only one of the litter is considered child support. An exception can only be in the case of the birth of very expensive dogs, when the owner of the dog puts forward a condition for receiving two puppies. But this is discussed before mating.

How to choose the right one

In order not to make a mistake in choosing the right dog, it is better for an inexperienced dog breeder to invite a professional who understands the characteristics of the breed to help. An experienced breeder will be able to make the choice independently. The dog is assessed on many external parameters, as well as on the manifestation of character.

To successfully select a male puppy, the owner must have experience

Appearance

In general, the puppy should not have any deviations from the breed standard and no physical defects (for example, crooked legs or coat problems).

The puppy should be moderately well-fed.

But almost every breed has its own secrets, which professionals evaluate primarily:

  • In a Yorkshire Terrier litter, the fur is the first to be visible. It should be straight, long hair without a hint of any undercoat. The more shine, the healthier and better quality the baby is considered.
  • Three-colored beagles are valued higher than two-colored ones, so when choosing a maintenance puppy, you should definitely choose the brighter one.
  • Labradors are assessed for fatness, density and color of coat, as well as ear position. They should not stick out; in babies they are more saggy.
  • In the colors of pugs, a black pattern on the face is welcome. A diamond or star on the forehead is considered the hallmark of a good appearance.

When choosing, be sure to pay attention to the even, dense bone structure and the size of the head, which should be proportional to the baby’s torso.

Particular attention is always paid to teeth – their quality and position. In many breeds, malocclusion is visible even at a very young age.

In some breeds, for example, the Cane Corso, it is fully formed only by 7-8 months. This makes choosing a puppy very difficult.

The baby's coat should be dense, without bald patches, and as shiny as possible. You can stroke it to check if the hairs are falling off.

When choosing a baby, evaluate the color of the pet

In boys (especially if the baby is already grown up), it is important to check the descent of both testicles into the scrotum.

What does alimony puppy mean?

Many dog owners agree in advance to have priority in choosing a puppy. They often agree that the owners of the bitch can make their first choice, since all the burdens of raising the litter are placed on them.

Many dog breeders prefer not to give away the puppy, but to pay its cost in money. This option is discussed in advance. How to understand whether the puppy in front of you is alimony or not? You need to be an experienced dog breeder to make the right choice. The puppy must be active and healthy. If the owners of a bitch offer a payment for him, then it is usually considerable, since such a baby is more expensive than his brothers.

This is usually the best puppy of the litter. However, its exclusivity is determined by eye, so it is impossible to be 100% sure that it will truly be the best.

What does a “maintenance puppy” mean and why does it cost more than others? The price is based on the fact that this is the most vigorous and healthy representative of the litter. In addition, its characteristics must ideally match the requirements of the breed. I would like to warn inexperienced owners of male dogs that there are often cases when dishonest breeders give away sick animals. Therefore, if you do not have experience in choosing puppies, seek help from a dog trainer.

What do you need to know when buying a foster puppy if you are a third party?

Some novice dog breeders do not fully understand what a maintenance puppy is, whether to buy it or not.

  1. If the choice of the owner of the male dog was made according to all the rules, then consider yourself lucky. The best representative of the litter is selected by agreement with the owner of the female.
  2. Before buying a dog, study the standards of the breed to which it belongs. In case the owner made a slight mistake with his choice.
  3. You should not think that since the owner of the male is given the right to choose the baby first, then he is torn away from the mother too early. A maintenance puppy is taken no younger than 45 days from birth. After it goes through the process of activation and branding.
  4. If the baby is from purebred parents, he must have a passport and the corresponding RKF stamp on his body. Without it, it is impossible to prove that the documents belong to this puppy.
  5. If the price of the selected breed is high, it is worth checking the documents and merits of both parents.

If you want to sell your dog profitably, choose a high-quality representative of the litter. If you want to make a friend for your soul, listen to your inner voice, let it help you make a choice. It's up to you to decide what your maintenance puppy will be like.

Child support - what is it - an obligation or a right?

Owners of a male dog should understand well that the main costs of maintaining a bitch during pregnancy, organizing childbirth and the postpartum period, as well as caring for the dog and offspring fall on its owner. Therefore, his interests must be respected.

Quite rightly, many dog owners believe that when a bitch brings less than five puppies, giving one of them as payment is too high a price. In addition, we must take into account that the male also took part in the birth of a small offspring. Therefore, quite often, when four puppies are born, the owner of a male dog can receive 75% of the cost of the puppy, if three - 50% of its cost, if two - 25%. For the birth of one puppy, the owner of the male dog does not receive anything. But this is discussed before mating. As for the answer to the question of whether the owner of a male dog is obliged to pick up the puppy, we answer: of course not. He can generally leave it to the owners of the bitch or receive monetary compensation for it. It's his right.

Legal aspects

Dogs of both sexes are bred only in kennels. These establishments exist by offering high-quality puppies with a pure pedigree. All profits from the sale, as well as the young animals, belong to the nursery. In another case, the owner of the cable has the right to choose one puppy, which plays the role of payment for mating. It's called alimony. Subsequently, they sell it or keep it for themselves. Sometimes owners of purebred males demand a monetary reward for mating. This happens when puppies are quite expensive and it is not so easy to sell them.

Before the dogs are mated, a deal is drawn up between the two owners, where both parties are interested. Most often it is oral and less often presented in the form of a written agreement. After mating and birth of puppies, one is given as payment. Such actions are quite justified if we are talking about a breed that is in demand on the market. As for rare animals or those that are expensive, in this case the lawyer draws up a civil act, sometimes a referral for mating.

Choosing a puppy

The time has come to finally understand the question of what constitutes a maintenance puppy. What kind of animal is this, how to choose it correctly? It should be noted that this task is not easy even for an experienced dog breeder. As an example, today a German Shepherd puppy will appear before you. Why him? Because this is one of the most popular breeds in our country, in stable demand.

The owner of an alimony puppy needs to check the RKF pedigree and brand. You should not choose the baby you like at first glance - first impressions can sometimes be deceiving.

Example: what kind of maintenance should a German Shepherd puppy have?

So that you finally have a clear idea of what a maintenance puppy should be like, we decided to present you with a description of the breed standard and health characteristics of a German Shepherd puppy. This breed was not chosen by chance. The fact is that its qualities and appearance are highly valued in various parts of the world. The fashion for animals of this breed has not subsided for many decades, and it is unlikely to ever subside. Let's look at what it means to have a German Shepherd puppy.

What kind of maintenance should a German Shepherd puppy have?

Valuable qualities

Despite the fact that breed qualities are something that is very difficult to determine upon first contact with puppies, it is necessary to indicate them in order to form an idea of a breed such as a German Shepherd. To make it easier for you to understand the level of development of a particular quality in animals of a given species, we will introduce a rating scale of 10 points.

Tendency to train

The German Shepherd is a dog that can be trained 10 out of 10 points. Obedience is in the blood of these animals, which explains their high popularity even at the state level. So, you will never see on the streets (at least in Slavic countries) a male representative of law enforcement agencies with a dog of any other breed.

Even gentle training is enough to train a dog.

Predisposition to guard and security activities

Those citizens who need guards in their local areas also prefer to have German shepherds. This dog is simply unable to let an enemy into the house, and it will protect its person even when seriously wounded - this is its main instinct.

Mental capacity

The ability of these animals for intellectual pursuits is also assessed at 10 out of 10 points. So, according to statistics, German shepherds remember commands several times faster than representatives of any other breeds.

Only Border Collies can compete with German Shepherds in mental abilities.

Attitude towards children

The German Shepherd is the same dog that could successfully replace a human nanny. This animal is simply designed to take care of the offspring of its owner, stopping the child from approaching dangerous points of the territory, protecting the entire perimeter around him from uninvited guests, warming him with his warmth and, if necessary, licking him. What is noteworthy is that even if a child, due to a lack of understanding of his actions, accidentally steps on the dog’s tail or pokes it with a stick, the most severe reaction that can follow from the animal is a slight and almost painless tingling. 10 out of 10 points.

Protect from dangers, wash, warm - all this and much more can be done by a shepherd with your children, understanding that they are members of the pack.

Attitude towards the owner

Need I say that the efforts of breeders in relation to this breed were aimed at raising its obedience to humans to the absolute level? This is not even 10, but 100 out of ten points. In the case of the owner, crazy love is also mixed with innate instincts. The dog will be ready to follow his man anywhere, and in complete hunger he will always give the last piece of game he gets to him.

The love of German Shepherds for their owners has no limits.

Now that we have a little understanding of the basic qualities of a shepherd dog, let’s move on to considering the external breed qualities that you will need to rely on when choosing a maintenance puppy.

Breed standard

As we have already said, the breed standard is the characteristics of the animal’s exterior that the German Shepherd puppy you choose for child support must meet. Let's consider the required characteristics.

Body build: weight, height, torso length

Representatives of the breed we are considering as an example are large dogs. It is rare to see a German Shepherd of small size, this indicates certain deviations in its development. That is why, even at a young age, puppies look:

  • shot down;
  • large;
  • standing firmly on their feet.

The animal's body should generally be muscular and lean

Of course, puppy swelling is also characteristic of this breed, but even at a young age their serious breed constitution should be discernible.

As for height, in adult dogs not only of this, but also other breeds, it is measured at the withers. So, the following parameters are typical:

  • for males at the withers, the height is a maximum of 65 centimeters;
  • for bitches this parameter at its maximum value will be 60 centimeters.

The weight will be as follows:

  • in females the greatest weight is 33 kilograms;
  • for males 40 kilograms.

Body length by gender will vary as follows:

  • males can reach 77 centimeters;
  • females - 70 centimeters.

German Shepherd proportions according to the breed standard

However, as we have already said, these parameters are typical for adult animals. Puppies cannot reach such sizes, not to mention the fact that you can withdraw your “alimony” when they reach completely different age marks. Let's see what parameters are relevant for German Shepherd puppies.

From 0 to 3 months old

At the moment a German Shepherd puppy is born, provided that it is born without deviations from the norm, the weight of the animal will be from 350 to 550 grams. Further, as you grow older, these indicators will be added to:

  • for the first 30 days, 100 grams per day;
  • over the next 60 days, 170 grams per day.

So, when the puppy is one month old, the indicators on the scales should display a value equal to 3 or 4 kilograms of live weight.

At this age, there are no differences in weight between females and males

From 3 months to six months

During this period of time, that is, in fact, in three months, the dog’s weight should increase three times. At the same time, the length of the animal’s limbs also grows in direct proportion to this indicator, and its height doubles. For example, here are the indicators characterizing a puppy whose age is 4 months:

  • the weight of the animal is about 15-20 kilograms;
  • the dog's height at the withers will be 45-53 centimeters;
  • chest measurement will show 60-65 centimeters.

At six months the dog reaches almost the same size as their adult relatives.

A three-month-old shepherd puppy is a mini-copy of an adult

From 6 months to 1 year

During this period of time, part of the animal’s skeleton stops growing, but the other part (flat bones) just begins active growth, and this continues until about 16-18 months of the animal’s life. As for muscle mass, its growth lasts up to two to three years and then stops. In other words, already at one year old, a shepherd dog puppy (if you can call it that) will be almost one hundred percent consistent with the parameters we discussed above, characteristic of an adult animal.

Head and neck shape

The shape of the puppy's head resembles a wedge, the animal's muzzle is long, while the head widens towards the ears, but moderately. In general, the head of the representatives of the breed we are considering as an example cannot be called large.

The head of this dog breed is wedge-shaped.

From a young age the puppy's jaws will be:

  • perfectly developed;
  • powerful.

The tip of the nose of these dogs is usually black. The lips are always dark, almost black, and fit tightly to the teeth and bones, without moving away from them. The animal's eye sockets are located somewhat obliquely. The eyes are most often dark brown, although the shade may vary. The eye shape resembles an almond. The animal's ears are shaped like isosceles triangles, although in small puppies they can be drooping and resemble mugs. Normally, things are located vertically. Don't be alarmed if you are offered a puppy with drooping ears. The animal’s “hearing aid” will begin to stand up on its own when it reaches about 2-3 months.

The powerful neck of the animal ends with a firmly set head.

The neck of puppies is strong, muscular, neither long nor short. This structure of this body segment is explained by many factors, for example, the fact that the animal sometimes receives a blow from other dog opponents in the neck.

Torso

The body of these dogs, despite its obviously large size, is graceful. Even at a young age, shepherd dogs move smoothly and beautifully. Their back line is not interrupted along its entire length:

  • from the neck;
  • through the withers;
  • to the croup.

At the last point the back line drops slightly

The thoracic region of shepherd dogs is developed, their strong lungs and heart work well. The back is all muscular. The curve of the tail is soft, but noticeable, and along the entire length of this part of the animal’s body is covered with fluffy hair, which visually makes it larger than it actually is.

Limbs

The body limbs of German Shepherds can be described as powerful. When puppies jump, they travel incredible distances for their size thanks to the strength of their muscular legs. According to the structure of the limb:

  • straight;
  • are located parallel to each other;
  • have wide and strong forearms;
  • elbows stand straight and distant from each other;
  • puppies' paws are round, large, gathered into one “palm”;
  • the tibia of the hind legs and thighs are equal in length;
  • the so-called hock joints protrude and are clearly visible.

You can buy a puppy for sale only if it meets all the parameters presented to it.

Please note: it is important to choose a foster puppy, taking into account all the indicators listed above. The fact is that they are not only an indispensable element of the dog’s exterior, that is, they correspond to the standard of the German Shepherd breed, but they are also responsible for the performance characteristics of these animals.

So, if the puppy meets all the requirements regarding body structure, then it will run and jump around the room:

  • free;
  • on a grand scale.

Coat

As for the fur of puppies, from a young age they have it:

  • short;
  • hard;
  • dense cover adjacent to the dermis.

Of course, the younger the puppy, the fluffier it will be, since a larger percentage of its hair will be represented by the so-called “puppy fluff”, which falls out as the animal grows older. The fur reaches its greatest length in the neck area, but on the paws it will be shortest.

As for color, only a few varieties are allowed, in which the shepherd dog will still be considered a pure representative of the breed.

Firstly, the first color of the German Shepherd is black and tan, in which the animal’s body will be covered here and there with inserts of the following colors:

  • gold;
  • beige;
  • gray;
  • brown.

Black and tan shepherd

The second color allowed is completely black. At the same time, there are no spots or inserts on the animal’s body.

Black German Shepherd

Black color is the most popular and frequently seen color. The color of the German Shepherd is recognizable all over the world. A dog with such hair is colored golden-reddish-beige all over its body, and has black or dark gray areas on:

  • back;
  • muzzle;
  • tail;
  • back of the head;
  • lateral parts of the chest.

The undercoat of these animals, regardless of the breed, will be gray.

Black color

Character

Now let's talk about the character of the German Shepherd puppy. When you come to the viewing and want to pick up a maintenance pet, carefully monitor who is in the litter:

  • moves most actively;
  • encourages brothers and sisters to play;
  • barks loudly;
  • chasing tail;
  • rejoices at your attention and caresses.

The German Shepherd is an active and cheerful dog.

The fact is that for a German Shepherd puppy, activity is not just normal, but preferred behavior. Breeders intended this animal for constant physical activity, which is why it must constantly jump and run. Puppies that lie inactively on bedding and do not respond to toys are most likely sick or too weak.

Health

As we have already said, deviations from health standards, in principle, deprive the puppy of the opportunity to become alimony. Of course, the owners will be able to sell it, but such an animal will not have the opportunity to compete or take part in breeding. That’s why don’t let the owners of your bitch confuse you and don’t take a puppy who:

  • looks thin;
  • limps;
  • has obviously underdeveloped body parts.

A healthy puppy meets the requirements of the breed standard in appearance

Although, if such a weak baby catches your fancy and you want to become its owner, we advise you to take it. A dog that understands that a person loves it despite its shortcomings thanks its owner much more than any healthy dog.

Backbone

It should be strong and strong, the forelimbs strong and straight. If they are bent, then this is a sign of rickets. Your puppy's legs should have large joints. This ensures that he will develop a good backbone in the future.

The baby's paws should be compact, have thick pads and dark nails. Pay special attention to the length, position and slope of the croup. It is preferable for the puppy to have a wide shoulder girdle, a relatively short back and lower back, and fairly wide hips. The hind feet should not have extra dewclaws. The tail is without kinks or pathologies.

How to correctly draw up a contract for child support so as not to be deceived?

If you want to have a guarantee that you will not be deceived, especially when it comes to an expensive breed, it is better to draw up an official contract in advance. Your rights can only be confirmed by a properly executed legal document:

The contents of these documents should be as follows:

  1. Full name of each owner.
  2. Dog names.
  3. Mating time.
  4. Form of remuneration for the participation of a male dog (money or offspring).
  5. The right of the male owner to own one puppy from the intended litter is documented.
  6. A deadline is set after which the baby can be picked up.
  7. Data from an official examination by a veterinarian on the number and compliance with breed standards of babies (data is entered after birth).

Other issues that concern the parties are also discussed.

Head

Quite large, but proportionate to the body. The muzzle is not sharp, the forehead is medium in size. The gap between the muzzle and the forehead is clearly defined. Until three and a half months, the puppy's ears are drooping. Erect tips at an early age indicate ossification of the auricles, and this, in turn, indicates a calcium imbalance. The ears should be clean and odorless.

The eyes are of medium size, without any discharge. Puppies at the age of 30 days may have blue eyes, then their color changes. Do not take a puppy with light eyes or odd eyes.

What does the concept of “Alimony Puppy” mean?

Beginning dog breeders often come across the phrase “maintenance puppy,” but not everyone knows what this means when purchasing. Let's try to understand this issue in detail.

Owners of bitches usually look for a mate for their dog. When the ideal candidate is found, a meeting is arranged between the owners, at which the deal is concluded. The nuances of the process depend on the uniqueness and cost of the breed. The agreement can be drawn up either orally or in writing.

  1. A common, inexpensive species of animal does not pose any particular risks. Dog owners can agree verbally or write a receipt themselves.
  2. If the price of the breed being removed is high, an official document is drawn up in the form of a civil act. It describes the relevant norms and includes points of the parties' requirements. Or a direction for mating is given.

Then the mating of the dogs occurs. When the bitch is in heat, the animals are taken to a place where there should be no distractions, for example:

  • acquaintances or strangers;
  • other animals and especially other males;
  • cars;
  • loud sharp sounds and so on.

Having succumbed to instincts, dogs will engage in the process of intercourse after a certain time. Meetings are held several times during the estrus period to consolidate the results.

If everything went well, the bitch becomes pregnant and the offspring is safely born. When the kids grow up to the required age, “dad” is given the due reward:

  • puppy;
  • the amount of its real value.

The owner of a male dog is given the right of first choice of a maintenance puppy from the litter. It can be any little one you like.

Character

As it became clear from all of the above, the alimony shepherd puppy stands out from the entire litter due to its external features and physical characteristics. Whether or not to take such a handsome man into your home is, of course, up to you.

I would like to say a few more words about the baby’s character. He has a calm and balanced disposition from birth. Like any cub, he is playful, but in no case shows aggression. He is brave and courageous, he will not be scared by the cotton of a newspaper. He fights bravely for his favorite toy. This is a charming creature that will become your faithful and devoted friend in the future.

What to look for when choosing a puppy

  1. Meet the potential pet's parents and study their pedigrees. Check to see if the parents are close relatives; sometimes this can be fraught with undesirable consequences for the offspring.
  2. Ask to see documents for mating and puppies, and the results of medical examinations. Watch the mother, she should be healthy, not exhausted, balanced, feed and lick the puppies, play with them, and not show aggression.
  3. Decide whether you want to have a female or a male. Each has both pros and cons.

A male dog “will not bring” unwanted puppies; he does not go into heat. Representatives of the “stronger sex” are more consistent with the standard, since it is written specifically from male dogs. At shows, females are often inferior to males.

Males are more aggressive and independent, they often run away in search of adventure. There is an opinion that they are worse trained, but here everything is relative.

If you choose a female, you can plan to have offspring (if, of course, your dog is healthy); a “girl” is easier to train. Bitches, as a rule, are more loyal and affectionate and there is less risk that she will decide to join her “free” relatives and leave you.

However, you run the risk of ending up with a litter of unwanted puppies and the headache of placing them without checking. Bitches regularly go into heat - and all the males in the area will gather at your doorstep, and you will have to be vigilant while walking. However, these problems can be solved by sterilization.

4. Inspect the room where the puppies live. It shouldn't be dirty or smell unpleasant. The floor should not be slippery. Children should have enough space to play. The feeder and drinking bowl must be clean. 5. Assess the puppy's appearance. A healthy puppy is agile, cheerful, active, not timid, and willing to make contact. The nose, ears, and eyes are clean, without discharge. The tummy is not bloated, and the baby is not thin, with a good appetite. 6. Look at how the baby communicates with his brothers and sisters - this will say a lot about his character. Ask about the character traits of the baby you like, about the specifics of care, upbringing, and training. 7. If possible, look at older puppies from previous litters - this will give you the opportunity to evaluate what will grow out of this fluffy ball. 8. Along with the puppy, you must be given a puppy card (which is then exchanged for a pedigree), a veterinary passport, which indicates all vaccinations and other veterinary procedures, as well as a purchase and sale agreement. A conscientious breeder will not refuse to advise you in the future if any difficulties arise - after all, he is not indifferent to what will happen to the baby into whom so much effort has been invested.
