Pharmacological properties and composition

In the instructions for the drug you can find all the necessary information on the composition. This will help you make the right choice of anthelmintic for dogs that are allergic to certain components. The main active ingredients of Azinox are pyrantel pamoate and praziquantel. There are also auxiliary components, including potato starch and lactose.

The principle of action of Azinox is as follows:

  • Praziquantel inhibits the enzymes of worms, damages their membrane and causes innervation of the muscles of the helminths. All this leads to paralysis and subsequent rapid death of the parasites. The drug is absorbed by the intestines, its maximum concentration is observed after an hour, and after a day the active component is excreted from the body along with urine.
  • Pyrantel is slowly absorbed in the stomach; this component has a pronounced prolonged effect. It prevents helminths from adhering to the intestinal walls, blocks the transmission of motor and nerve impulses of parasites, immobilizes them, leading to the rapid death of worms.

The action of Azinox is based on damage to the outer shell of the parasite and its internal organs. Also, the effectiveness of this drug is achieved due to the destructive effect on the muscle tissue of worms, which quickly die after taking this drug. In helminths, the neuromuscular innervation is blocked, after which the parasites die and are soon eliminated from the body.

Specifics of taking medication for a dog

When treating parasitic diseases in animals, Azinox plus is given once in the morning, during feeding, the dog takes one tablet per ten kg of its weight. The same dose of medication is used by the dog quarterly if its use is prescribed for preventive purposes.

Azinox pills do not have a pleasant smell or taste. Therefore, in order to make it easier for animals to take the tablet, it is recommended to crush it in a regular plate, add ten milliliters of water, and stir well. Pour the prepared solution into the pet’s mouth using a regular syringe (the needle must be removed).

During treatment for this disease, the dog must be kept from eating for about a day.

Doses and order of application.

"Azinox Plus" for dogs is administered orally individually, once, in the morning feeding with a small amount of food, or administered forcibly at a dose of 1 tablet per 10 kg of animal weight.

A preliminary starvation diet and the use of laxatives before deworming animals are not required.

Farm and poultry dogs are dewormed against causative agents of taeniasis from December to April every 45 days, from May to November - every 30 days.

How it works

The broad antinematode effect is due to two active substances:

  1. Praziquantel. Inhibits enzymes, causes innervation of parasite muscles and damages their membrane, which leads to paralysis and death of worms. The substance is quickly absorbed by the intestines, reaches its maximum concentration after an hour, and a day later is completely excreted from the body along with urine.
  2. Pirantel. It is slowly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and therefore has a prolonged effect. The component prevents helminths from adhering to the intestinal walls: it blocks the transmission of nerve impulses and, subsequently, immobilizes the parasites.

Contraindications and side effects

This drug is quite well tolerated by pets, side effects occur extremely rarely. The only complication described (provided the pills are taken correctly and the instructions are followed) is an allergic reaction.

An allergy occurs when the dog is hypersensitive to the components and can manifest itself in the form of skin rash, itching, and swelling. If this complication occurs, the administration is stopped and desensitizing therapy is prescribed.

If you are lactose intolerant, signs of indigestion may appear, but this is extremely rare.

There are a number of contraindications to the use of Azinox tablets:

  1. Pregnancy and first weeks of lactation.
  2. Puppies are up to 1 month old.
  3. Hypersensitivity to medicinal substances that are part of the drug.
  4. Decompensated kidney damage, which is accompanied by a significant impairment of filtration capacity.
  5. Liver damage in the stage of decompensation.
  6. Acute infectious pathology and exacerbation of chronic diseases are a relative contraindication. You can take this medication after treatment for the underlying disease.

Before the first use, it is better to consult a veterinarian; in the future (for prevention) you can take it yourself.
