"Imaverol": how to breed and use for cats and dogs

Doses and method of administration

Imaverol is used externally in the form of a 0.2% enilconazole emulsion. A working emulsion of the drug is prepared by mixing 1 part imaverol and 50 parts warm water. For example, to prepare a diluted working emulsion, 100 ml of imaverol is diluted in 5 liters of warm water. Treatment consists of 4 applications of the working emulsion at intervals of 3 to 4 days. In severe cases, the course of treatment can be extended.

For dogs , imaverol working emulsion is rubbed into the skin against the fur. It is recommended to pre-haircut dogs of long-haired breeds. You can also completely immerse the dog in a container with a working emulsion of the drug.

Before using the drug, areas on the animal’s body that are stained with dirt or manure are first cleaned. The crusts on the animal's body are removed using a stiff brush dipped in the working emulsion of the drug. It is recommended to wet the entire surface of the animal’s body during the first treatment in order to eliminate undetected foci of the disease. Cattle are washed using sprayers or hosed down with a diluted emulsion at the rate of at least 1 liter of working emulsion per adult animal and 0.5 liters per calf. In horses, the affected areas, together with the surrounding skin, are treated with a working emulsion of the drug.

Imaverol for cats: what is it for, when is it indicated

When kittens, children, old people and elderly cats come into contact with the skin, fungal spores begin to germinate. A fungal mycelium is formed, which feeds and grows, capturing new areas of damage. Micromycetes are activated as secondary microflora during viral infections. The likelihood of fungal infection increases when the body weakens with prolonged use of antibiotics, corticosteroids, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Diagnosis of mycoses using a Wood's lamp

Ringworm is characterized by the appearance of patches of baldness, as well as thinning hairs. As a result, the hairs break off and look as if the cat had been cut. The virulence of the fungus increases, and a sick pet can infect other animals and humans.

Treatment with external ointments is long-term, and tableted antimycotics have side effects. Therefore, a chemotherapy drug is needed that can cure the disease in a short time without harming the cat’s health and prevent the spread of infection. Imaverol, which is a concentrate for preparing an antifungal emulsion, has these properties.

Pharmacological properties

Imaverol is a synthetic antifungal drug with a broad spectrum of action. Active against dermatophytoses of horses, dogs and cattle caused by Microsporum canis, Trichophyton verrucosum, Trichophyton equinum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Microsporum gypseum. Enilconazole, which is part of the drug as an active ingredient, is a selective inhibitor of the biosynthesis of ergosterol (the main component of the cell membrane of yeast and fungi). This leads to irreversible changes in the cell walls and fungi, thus providing an antifungal effect. Enilconazole also has a vapor-phase effect, increasing the effectiveness of imaverol. After local application, the drug has low systemic availability. Residues of enilconazole in animal tissues after treatment are practically absent and relatively high in the liver. Elimination from tissues and blood plasma in cattle occurs with a half-life of 12 to 16 hours. Enilconazole is extensively metabolized and excreted mainly in urine and feces. Excretion in milk in cows is very limited. The drug is corrosion resistant.

Cases of prescribing the drug to cats

In veterinary practice, this drug is used to combat dermatophytoses:

  • trichophytosis (damages of the skin and fur by a fungus from the genus Trichophyton - trichophyton);
  • microsporia (diseases of the skin and hair caused by the fungus Microsporum - microsporum).

Popularly, these fungal diseases are known as ringworm . The harmful fungus penetrates the wool, envelops it, forming a kind of cocoon, and the wool begins to fall off. As a result, bald patches in the shape of circles form on the pet’s body. The fungus is easily transmitted from one animal to another.

It is worth noting that ringworm is a common disease for animals and people. Children and adults with weakened immune systems are especially susceptible to it.

Ringworm looks like bald patches on the fur.

Imaverol saved our kitten from lichen

We found our Tishka on the street, or he found us, it depends on how you look.

The kitten was very friendly, but looked unhealthy, especially with bald spots on his ear and face. They bathed him, fed him and took him to the veterinary clinic for vaccinations. The doctor said first we need to remove the worms and cure the lichen, the baby’s immune system is already weakened. And he also scolded us, it turns out that you can’t bathe people with lichen, we did it out of ignorance.

The fact that the ear was affected was visible to the naked eye. But a scan with a lamp showed that the poor fellow had lichen everywhere. Maybe because they bought it out of ignorance, or maybe because of life on the street.

The doctor prescribed treatment with Imaverol - four times twice a week, then again for an appointment.

The medicine they took was European, or rather French, produced by Elanco. As far as the information I found, this is the best (high-quality) Imaverol that exists.

There are instructions inside the box, but they are useless, entirely in French, unless you can get information about who and where produces this medicine.

On the box itself there are detailed instructions in Russian.

There is a measuring cap.

Processing was carried out strictly according to instructions

Imaverol is diluted with warm water in a ratio of 1:50. The prepared medicinal emulsion of the drug should be used within 24 hours. Dogs and cats are treated against the direction of hair growth, completely covering the affected areas of the skin with a medicinal emulsion. Small breed dogs and cats can also be treated by immersion in a container with a medicinal emulsion.

They diluted the medicine in a basin and dipped Tisha entirely. Everything was done with rubber gloves.

The kitten, of course, did not appreciate our care; he meowed throughout the entire apartment while bathing. First they bathed him, then they carried him in a towel for a long time to dry.

The doctor said that Imaverol, unlike its analogues, is non-toxic, has virtually no side effects, is allowed for kittens and can even be licked after drying. But the baby was already so pitiful and weak that, just in case, they kept him in a towel until he was almost completely dry. It was a great pity to put the little one in the enclosure in the corridor after everything. But quarantine is quarantine.

There were really no adverse reactions to the medicine. We were delighted; the scales that covered the affected ear and bridge of the nose began to dry out and fall off, revealing pink skin. But…

We returned to the clinic three weeks later and it turned out that although the glow had decreased, it remained. We were very upset, because we did everything according to the instructions, we even washed the blanket on which the cat slept in Imaverol, and washed the floor and baseboards and kept the poor animal for so long in a cage (enclosure) in the hallway.

Properties and characteristics of the drug

Harmful fungi that feed on substances from the skin and fur of pets can become a serious problem for pet owners. The danger of fungal diseases is that they develop asymptomatically for a long time, and then suddenly manifest themselves and can be transmitted to other family members - children and people with weak immunity.

Imaverol is available in the form of an ointment for external use, which is distributed in a glass or polymer bottle of 100 ml and 1 liter. The emulsion is a thick transparent liquid that is applied to the affected areas of the skin of cats, dogs, and cattle.

The instructions for imaverol for cats describe this drug as a highly effective antifungal agent. The drug, used in the required dosages, does not have an irritating, toxic or mutagenic effect on the body. Imaverol belongs to the category of low-hazard substances and is active against harmful fungi:

  • trichophyton verrucosum;
  • trichophyton mentagrophytes;
  • trichophyton enuinum;
  • microsporum canis;
  • microsporum cjypseum.

The effect of the drug is due to the special properties of the components contained in Imaverol; the active substance enilconazole negatively affects the cell membranes of fungi and yeast, which disrupts their spread. The list of excipients includes polysorbate 20 and sorbitan laurate. The medicine is eliminated from the body within 12-16 hours.

Indications for use and methods of use

The most important information on the use of the drug is contained in the instructions for imaverol for cats; the instructions describe the types of fungal infections for which the use of this medication is indicated:

The owner of the animal must remember that fungal spores can cause damage not only to the pet, but also to humans. Therefore, it is so important to begin treatment for your pet in a timely and reasonable manner. The use of medication should be discussed with a veterinarian, and not treated independently by your pet.

  • The possibility of human infection depends on many factors:
  • severity of infection;
  • the number of affected skin areas on the animal’s body;
  • the state of immunity of the owner and pet.

Representatives of long-haired breeds should be watched especially carefully. Some species of dogs and cats have a hereditary predisposition to the fungus. Yorkshire terriers, Persian and Himalayan cats are at risk.

How to use imaverol for cats? For each animal, an individual dosage is determined, which is prescribed by a veterinarian. For cats, a pre-prepared solution of imaverol is used.

The medicine is diluted in warm water in a ratio of 1:50. The prepared composition should be used within 24 hours. Treatment of cats is carried out according to the standard scheme: the emulsion is evenly distributed over the affected areas of the skin against the fur. To achieve the best effect, you need to carefully remove dead skin and trim the long hair. Small pets should be bathed in a basin filled with a medicinal solution.

Contraindications and combination with other medications

The drug is not recommended for use in combination with other antifungal drugs. Active and excipients contained in different medicinal formulations can neutralize each other's therapeutic effect or cause unpredictable reactions.

If the dosage is not followed correctly, symptoms are observed that indicate the pet’s increased sensitivity to the components of the drug. In this case, you should stop using the product. The veterinarian prescribes special antihistamines aimed at eliminating negative symptoms.

The drug Imaverol demonstrates a clear antifungal and therapeutic effect, which in very rare cases is accompanied by side effects. If it is impossible to purchase this drug, experts suggest alternative therapy, which is expressed in the use of analogue drugs. Analogs of imaverol for cats include the following medications:

  • emulsion Zoniton;
  • medicinal ointment Ketoconazole;
  • Itraconazole emulsion;
  • suspension for injection Dermikotsid;
  • Vakderm injection solution;
  • liquid for injection Vakderm-F.

Preventive measures

Compliance with preventive measures is the most important stage in treating a pet, which will help eliminate the fungal disease of the animal and prevent possible infection of family members. Before treating a cat, you must adhere to strict sanitary and hygienic conditions. The treatment should be carried out wearing protective gloves, and after the procedure you should wash your hands in warm water.

Security measures

When using Imaverol, personal hygiene and safety precautions must be observed.

When handling animals, be sure to wear rubber gloves. During this time, smoking, drinking and eating are not allowed. After processing is completed, wash your hands well using soap. You should also wash and dry your gloves.

If you have hypersensitivity to the components of the product, you should avoid direct contact with the drug. If the product accidentally gets on your skin or eyes, you should immediately rinse them with water. If after using Imaverol you notice allergic reactions, you should immediately go to the hospital.

Important! If you need to go to a medical facility due to allergic manifestations on your body, be sure to take the instructions with you - this will help the doctors choose effective medications for you.

Contraindications and possible negative reactions

Imaverol should not be used on pets suffering from allergic reactions to the components of the veterinary drug. If an allergic rash and redness of the skin appear as a result of its use, treatment must be stopped. As a rule, antihistamines are prescribed to relieve these symptoms. Imaverol should not be used in parallel with other antifungal external drugs.

To date, science has no known cases of overdose with Imaverol.

How to replace Imaverol

Since this foreign drug is quite difficult to find on the shelves of domestic pharmacies and pet stores, cat owners often need to look for a product that would have the same therapeutic effect. The modern market is ready to offer the consumer a whole line of both structural (with the same active composition) and functional (differing in composition, but similar in the nature of their effect on the body) analogues of Imaverol.

“Substitutes” for antifungal drugs:

  • structural - Liverazol;
  • functional: Dermicocide;
  • Fungin;
