It is a transparent liquid from yellow to brown color with a weak specific odor. The drug is produced packaged in 0.4 ml, 1 ml, 2.5 ml and 4 ml in polyethylene tube pipettes, packaged in 4 or 6 pieces in blisters.
PHARMACHOLOGIC EFFECT
Imidacloprid and permethrin, which are part of the drug Advantix, having a synergistic effect, have a systemic, contact and repellent effect on insects and ixodid ticks that parasitize dogs. The drug is effective against the imaginal and preimaginal phases of development of lice, fleas, lice and ixodid ticks, and protects animals from attacks by mosquitoes, midges and mosquitoes. The insecto-acaricidal and repellent effect of the drug after a single treatment of the animal lasts 4-6 weeks. According to the degree of toxic effects on the body, it is classified as a moderately dangerous substance; in recommended doses it does not have resorptive-toxic, embryotoxic, teratogenic, mutagenic or sensitizing effects. The drug is well tolerated by dogs in therapeutic doses and 5 times higher. When treating allergic dermatitis caused by insects, the drug can be used in combination with medications.
INDICATIONS
To destroy insects and ixodid ticks that parasitize dogs, as well as protect animals from their attacks.
DOSES AND METHOD OF APPLICATION
The drug is applied by topical (drop) application of the drug to the skin. Before use, pierce the protective membrane of the pipette tube nozzle (putting the cap on the back side), spreading the fur and pressing on the pipette tube, apply the drug to the skin in a place inaccessible to the animal for licking (between the shoulder blades). When treating large dogs, the contents of the tube-droppers are applied to the skin in three to four places on the back from the shoulder blades to the sacrum. The death of insects parasitizing the animal occurs within 12 hours, the death or detachment of ixodid ticks - within 48 hours after treatment. The repellent effect of the drug against lice, fleas, lice-eaters, dipterous blood-sucking insects, as well as ixodid ticks after a single treatment of the animal lasts 4-6 weeks. Repeated treatments of animals are carried out according to indications, but not more than once a month.
SIDE EFFECTS
In rare cases, after using the drug, individual skin reactions (redness, itching) are possible, which disappear spontaneously within 1-4 days and do not require the use of medications.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
The use of Advantix in cats is prohibited. It is not allowed to be used by dogs suffering from infectious diseases or convalescing, puppies under 7 weeks of age and/or weighing less than 1.5 kg, as well as animals of other species. Prescribe with caution to pregnant and lactating females. The simultaneous use of Advantix with other insecto-acaricidal drugs is not allowed.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
Due to possible contamination of fabrics, plastic and other materials by the drug, contact of the treated animal with surrounding objects should not be allowed until the drug has completely dried at the treatment site. While working with the drug, smoking, drinking and eating are not allowed. When finished, wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap. Do not wash, pet or allow the animal near small children for 24 hours after treatment with the drug. If you accidentally get the drug on your skin or eyes, rinse it off immediately with a stream of water; if it gets inside, consult a doctor. Empty tube pipettes containing the drug are prohibited from being used for household purposes; they are capped and thrown into waste containers.
STORAGE CONDITIONS
In unopened manufacturer's packaging, in a dry place, protected from light, out of reach of children and animals, separately from food and feed, at a temperature of 0 to 25 ° C. Shelf life – 2 years.
Efficiency
The death of insects parasitizing the animal occurs within 12 hours, the death or detachment of ixodid ticks - within 48 hours after treatment. The repellent effect of the drug against lice, fleas, lice-eaters, dipterous blood-sucking insects, as well as ixodid ticks after a single treatment of the animal lasts no more than 4 weeks. The drug remains effective even if the animal’s fur gets wet, but it is recommended to avoid keeping the animal in water for a long time in order to prevent a decrease in the effectiveness of the treatment. In such cases, the animal can be re-treated with Advantix®, but not more than once a week.
What is Advantix used for?
Flea and tick infestations are not only an unpleasant disease, but can also have dangerous consequences. Ixodid ticks cause piroplasmosis, which greatly affects the dog’s health and requires expensive treatment. Therefore, preventing a bite is much easier than curing the consequences.
Advantix drops from the German campaign are intended for the treatment and prevention of infection by ectoparasites . They can be prescribed by a veterinarian or used by the owner independently. The drug is packaged in pipettes, which facilitates the procedure of applying them to the skin of the animal.
The manufacturer assures that the medicine protects against all ectoparasites, midges, mosquitoes, lice, and lice. They can be used on puppies from 7 months and on adult animals.
The drug has a number of advantages and disadvantages, which were identified by veterinarians and dog breeders. The clear advantages of drops include:
- Ease of use;
- Safety for pregnant and lactating females (the drug is not absorbed into the blood);
- Surface application;
- Duration of action (1 month).
Disadvantages of the medicine:
- High price;
- Limiting your pet’s contact with household members, cats and other animals;
- Many copies and fakes;
- Danger to animal health (if it gets on mucous membranes or in the gastrointestinal tract);
- Ban on water procedures;
- Low effectiveness in the fight against ticks.
Composition and pharmacological properties
The drug Advantix is produced by the German company Bayer in the form of a yellowish or brown solution - drops for external use. It is packaged in pipette tubes in 4 dosages . Blisters of 4 bottles are packaged in branded cardboard boxes with inserts - instructions and a table (for marking dates of use).
The drug is made from particularly toxic chemical compounds. The main active ingredients are imidacloprid 10% (100 mg) and permethrin 50% (500 mg). The calculation is made for 1 ml of solution. The compounds belong to the group of neonicotinoids, their action resembles nicotine, and they affect the central nervous system of ectoparasites.
Effect of the drug
It is believed that the drug begins to act 12 hours after application and provides an effect for 1 month. The medicine is not absorbed into the blood, but acts on the surface of the skin. Therefore, killed ticks and fleas do not fall off, but remain in the fur. You will be able to notice the result after bathing (after 3-4 days) .
The substance blocks the transmission of nerve impulses in insects, which leads to paralysis of the parasite. The mechanism is based on the effect on insect receptors. The medicine quickly spreads over the surface of the fur and epidermis, which does not contribute to the migration of flea colonies, but to their death.
Indications for use
Drops are often used without a veterinarian's prescription. They are used to prevent flea and tick infestations. In the warm season (from May to September-October) insects intensify their activity. It is during this period that the animal especially needs protection from ectoparasite bites. The drug is also used for local treatment (for direct tick bites) and as therapy for multiple flea colonies.
Before any trips outside the city, where the risk of contracting a parasitic infection is several times higher than within a populated area, it is important to treat your pet. If a tick is found on the body, the area is treated with a solution, which kills the insect within 12 hours.
The drug is classified as a first-stage drug, so it is not always enough for comprehensive protection . Parallel use of collars is recommended. The safety of using the medicinal accessory Foresto from the company that produces Advantix has been clinically proven.
Although the drug is considered generally available and the owner does not need a veterinarian's recommendation to start using it, consultation with a specialist is important. The owner needs to make sure that his pet has no contraindications for use .

Instructions for use
Users note the ease of use of the medicine. The solution is packaged in ready-made pipettes in the required dosages, so it is not necessary to calculate the specific volume in milliliters for an individual individual. The substance is distributed along the ridge so that the animal cannot lick it off. For small dogs, the medicine is usually applied to only one place - between the shoulder blades. There is an algorithm for using the drug:
- You need to pierce the pipette tube (for this, a cap with a sharp end is attached to the back side);
- The owner squeezes the pet between his legs or takes him in his arms; for better control of the pet, you can resort to the help of household members;
- In order for the medicine to get directly to the skin, you need to push the fur apart with your hands or a comb;
- The drug is distributed with a pipette along the spine from withers to tail;
- The animal is held until the drug dries; in the next 2-4 hours it is necessary to ensure that the pet does not dry itself;
- It is forbidden to bathe the dog for the next 2 days (despite the fact that the drug is moisture resistant and easily repels rainwater).
Reviews about the drug from dog owners and veterinarians
Advantix can be classified as an expensive drop. It's safe to say that the high price is justified by the quality and efficiency. Users note that the drug is really good at fighting fleas, but preventing tick bites is ineffective. After treatment with the solution, dog breeders find parasites in the fur and on the body. One way or another, veterinarians consider the drug reliable and harmless.
- Ekaterina, owner of Yorkshire terriers:
“I have been using drops for my dogs for a long time from May to October. I treated it once a month, but at the same time I also used shampoo. The result was good, there were no fleas. Once we were planning a trip to the country, but there was no shampoo on hand, which is why we only used Advantix. A couple of days later they found a bloated tick on the dog. Later we learned that the drops are the first stage of protection. Despite the high cost, it is important to complement treatment and prevention with other means.”
- Lorilou user, veterinarian, dog breeder, German Shepherd owner:
“The drug was recommended a long time ago at the Department of Parasitology at the Academy of Veterinary Medicine in St. Petersburg. I want to say that most of the negative reviews are associated with the active work of scammers. We come across a huge number of fakes. My dogs are always treated with this drug, it works great on all ectoparasites.”
- Elena Biryuza, veterinarian:
Operating principle
The active ingredients of Advantix are permethrin and imidacloprid. After application, the drug is distributed over the skin. Some remains on the fur, and some penetrates the lipid (fat) layer. Once on the treated areas, the parasite gets the “burnt legs effect” and dies before it can bite the dog.
The action of Advantix begins within 12 hours after application. Already in the first day, 98-100% of parasites are destroyed. The next four weeks the function of protection against re-infection appears. The drug practically does not penetrate into the blood and is considered moderately dangerous.

- parallel use of drugs with similar effects;
- body weight less than 1.5 kg;
- allergic reactions to the drug.
Advantix is prescribed with caution during pregnancy and lactation.
Artem:
Advantis, of course, is good, but during tick season even it does not provide one hundred percent protection. That's why I always treat the dog's paws with a special spray or use a vaccine before the start of the season. And it really kills fleas quickly and for a long time.
Elena:
As for me, there is no better drug. And the name of the development company speaks for itself. I have been treating my dogs with Advantix for six years now, and in all that time I have not had a single complaint about it.
Catherine:
I am a veterinarian myself and an experienced dog lover. This drug was once recommended to me at the Department of Parasitology. I agree that there are cheaper analogues, but they also have the same effect. When we go to the dacha, for greater confidence I also put on collars from the same company. No infection has ever taken hold. So I tried Advantix from my own experience. And I hear a lot of positive feedback from patients.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Imidacloprid and permethrin, which are part of Advantix, exhibiting synergistic action, have a systemic, contact and repellent effect on insects and ixodid ticks that parasitize dogs. The drug is effective against the imaginal and preimaginal phases of development of lice, fleas, lice and ixodid ticks, and protects animals from attacks by mosquitoes, midges and mosquitoes. The mechanism of action of the synthetic pyrethroid permethrin is to block the transmission of nerve impulses, which causes impaired coordination of movements, paralysis and death of ectoparasites. Imidacloprid belongs to the group of chloronicotinyl insecticides, the mechanism of action of which is based on interaction with acetylcholine receptors of arthropods and disruption of the transmission of nerve impulses. Acting as an activator of the nerve ganglion of arthropods, imidacloprid enhances the insecticidal and acaricidal effect of permethrin. After using Advantix, its active components, practically without being absorbed into the systemic bloodstream, are quickly distributed over the surface of the body and retained on the epidermis and fur, and have a long-term contact insecto-acaricidal and repellent effect. In terms of the degree of toxic effects on the body, Advantix is classified as a moderately hazardous substance; in recommended doses it does not have resorptive-toxic, embryotoxic, teratogenic, mutagenic or sensitizing effects; if it gets into the eyes, it causes mild irritation. The drug is toxic to cats, bees, as well as fish and other aquatic organisms.
INDICATIONS
To destroy insects and ixodid ticks that parasitize dogs, as well as protect animals from their attacks.
