INTERVET BRAVEKTO SPOT ON 500 mg 6.25-12.5 kg drops for cats against ticks and fleas

Indications for use

The medicine contains insecticides. To avoid harm to the animal, consult a veterinarian before use.

When is the medicine used:

  • against flea infestations, as a therapeutic and prophylactic agent;
  • for tick infestation, to get rid of ectoparasites, including subcutaneous ones;
  • in the treatment of dermatitis and other skin lesions caused by the presence of dangerous insects;
  • for allergic skin diseases and residual effects of demodicosis.

Ectoparasites worry not only the cat, but also its owner

In addition to fleas, the medicine copes with lice, lice and other insects.

Attention! Outdoor pets are systematically treated with Bravecto.

Operating principle

Bravecto Spot performs a dual function:

  • as an acaricidal drug, the task of which is to combat ticks;
  • as an insecticide that kills fleas.

Dexamethasone for cats: instructions for use

The active substance of the drug is fluralaner. During processing, the substance accumulates in the animal’s fur and skin. At the next stage, it penetrates into the blood and circulates throughout the body. Thus, it has a fatal effect on parasites of every area of the hair.

Bravecto is released slowly. Therefore, the animal is protected from parasites for about 3 months. The medicine does not work immediately: on fleas after 12 hours, on ticks after 48 hours.

Important! If a pet is preparing for an exhibition or going to the country, it is treated at least 2 days before this event.

Bravecto does not have a negative effect on your pet directly, as it belongs to hazard class IV.

The principle of action of the drug

The medicine belongs to insectoacaricidal agents of a systemic type of action. As we have already written, the main active ingredient is fluralaner. This compound belongs to the isoxazoline group. Effective on all types of fleas and parasitic ixodid ticks found in cats.

Effective against both adult individuals (imago) and larvae (larvae) of parasites. The effect of using the drug lasts for 12 weeks (three months) from the moment of single treatment.

But I would still like to note that, based on information obtained during long-term practice, veterinarians consider these figures to be somewhat overestimated. Thus, a good effect against fleas lasts for about 11 weeks, and against ticks the medicine does not last longer than eight weeks.

The immediate mechanism of action of the drug is quite standard for drugs of this type: it simply blocks the transmission of impulses from nerve endings to muscles. This quickly leads to overexcitation of the parasite’s nervous system, and then to its complete paralysis and subsequent death.

As for the danger for the cat itself, everything is in order: the medicine belongs to the fourth class of danger, i.e. it is practically safe for warm-blooded animals. The manufacturer reports that the product does not have a mutagenic effect and does not interfere with the normal development of fetuses in the body of a pregnant female.

Important! But all of the above applies exclusively to those cases when the product is used in the correct, well-chosen doses! What will happen with a tenfold overdose is a complex question, and it is better not to test it in practice!

Instructions for use: important nuances and notes

Inspector drops for cats: instructions for use

Bravecto Spot is available in two forms: tablets and drops.

The dosage of the drug depends on the weight of the animal

Pills

This form is used for dogs. It is difficult to feed a cat with a tablet, so drops are produced for the cat family. They are applied to the withers or back of the head.

Drops

The veterinary pharmacy offers three types of drops, the dosage of which depends on the weight of the animals. Bravecto drops for cats are distributed as follows:

  • For babies weighing 1.2-2.8 kg, the dosage is 0.4 ml, where the active substance is 112.5 mg.
  • For animals weighing from 2.8 to 6.2 kg, the serving is 0.89 mg, the active ingredient is 250 mg.

Bravecto for cats instructions

The drops are sold in pipettes with a tightly screwed cap, which is removed before use.

Applying drops to the animal's withers

To prevent the cat from escaping, it is wrapped in a towel. Drops are applied to the skin, after spreading the fur with your fingers. In case of damage to the dermis or the presence of subcutaneous mites, the hair is cut off.

One procedure is sufficient for therapeutic treatment. If this is the prevention of infections, drip every 3 months during the active period (early spring - late autumn).

3-4 days before the start of treatment, the animal is bathed, since after treatment, washing is postponed so as not to wash off the droplets ahead of time.

Bravecto for cats is no different from the drug for cats. Dosing and treatment are carried out in the same order.

After the procedure, the animal’s behavior is carefully observed and drops are not allowed to be dropped with its paw. For safety, they use an Elizabethan collar.

Side effects and consequences of overdose

The drug Bravecto Spon rarely causes side effects, but if they appear in the future, the drug is not recommended.

Symptoms of side effects:

  • irritation at the site of application of drops;
  • itching, allergic rashes;
  • lethargy;
  • decreased appetite;
  • increased salivation;
  • nausea, vomiting.

If convulsions, bloody feces are added to such symptoms, the animal rushes around the house or, conversely, the cat hides in a secluded corner, this indicates an overdose. The animal is immediately bathed and the treatment prescribed by the veterinarian is carried out.

Side effects of the medicine

As a rule, with normal use of the drug in strict accordance with its instructions for use, side effects either do not develop at all or are extremely rare. It’s a different matter when the owner, for some reason, overdoses or uses the drug for those animals for which it is not recommended.

In addition, a particularly nimble pet can lick the product from its fur. In such cases, the following types of side effects may develop:

  • The cat becomes lethargic, apathetic, and tries to spend more time huddled in the quietest and most remote corner of the house.
  • It is very likely that you will develop excessive salivation. The saliva is foamy and flaky.
  • The animal's thirst and, accordingly, the daily volume of urine excreted significantly increase.
  • Some cats, when overdosed, become nervous and irritable; the animal “spins” around the house all the time, or walks from corner to corner.

Proper storage of the medicine

To preserve the drug, the following conditions are created:

  • lack of direct sunlight;
  • storage temperature 0–30 °C;
  • inadmissibility of drops freezing;
  • lack of direct access by children and animals.

Important! The shelf life of the drops is 2 years. After the expiration date, use is prohibited.

Bravecto is an effective drug against parasites

Drug analogues

There are many medications for fleas and ticks for cats. But these are not analogues of Bravecto, since they contain a different active ingredient. Frontline has similar properties. Its active ingredient (fipronil) is similar to the base of Bravecto (fluralaner). Conventionally, Effitix is considered an analogue, the active ingredients of which are permethrin and fipronil.

Excellent analogue of Bravecto

With correct and timely application of Bravecto, ectoparasites will leave pets for a long time, and repeated preventive procedures will save pets from serious illnesses, return kittens to a good mood and clear the home of unwanted dangerous tenants.

Analogs

In principle, analogues of the drug exist, and they are quite numerous. The only problem is that fluralaner is rarely used in their composition, and therefore there is no need to talk about exact “analog” properties. Here is a list of the main drugs with a similar principle of action:

  • Frontline. They use the closest analogue of the active ingredient Bravecto, that is, afoxolaner.
  • Effitix can be considered a distant analogue.
