It is impossible not to love your four-legged friend. How to express your feelings, show your dog that you love him so that he understands it?
The simplest and surest way to express your love is to simply tell her about it. Dogs are very smart animals, and they perceive everything amazingly, even human speech. However, you want your pet to understand for sure what you want to convey to him. To do this, you will need to communicate with him in “dog language”. It is a language of actions, gestures and body movements that are easy to master.
Keeps eye contact

If you feel uncomfortable or unsafe around someone, will you look into that person's eyes? No way! Prolonged eye contact is something intimate, reserved for those we love and trust.
The same can be said about dogs. Eye contact doesn't just help during training. It is also incredibly important to create a deep and lasting bond with your pet. When a dog looks into your eyes, its brain releases oxytocin, the same “love hormone” that enters the bloodstream of mothers when they hold their baby for the first time.
Make eye contact during playtime or when your dog comes to pet you. But you shouldn’t deliberately force the dog to look you in the eye. It won't do any good.
Mutual love
The same study, conducted by Canine Cottages, found that people's heart rates also increased by 10.4% when they saw their furry friends.
So these feelings are definitely mutual. And if your four-legged best friend has had a rough day, you might want to give him a hug because it lowers his heart rate by 22.7%, according to the same report.

While a dog's pulse can indeed shed light on their emotions, it is worth remembering that animals and their owners express love for each other differently. Among the 10 signs of affection, the researchers named the following: licking, wanting to be close, begging, showing the belly, wagging the tail, jumping up and much more.
Carrying your shoes and dirty socks everywhere

Dogs that are attached to their owner also adore his smell. And most often, shoes suffer because of this. Although the object for “attack” may well be a basket with dirty laundry. So don’t be surprised (and don’t scold your pet too much) if you return home to find an exhibition of your dirty T-shirts and “fragrant” socks in your apartment.
Stealing shoes and clothes is not the most pleasant way to know that your dog loves you. Especially if the dog not only steals things, but also tries to chew them. To avoid this, give your pet a toy that will remind him of you in your absence. It could be a simple rubber ball or a tasty bone from a pet store.
How does a dog understand that its owner loves it?
Sometimes we ask ourselves this question - how does a dog know that we love him? How can we express our love to her and show her how valuable she is to us? After all, the pet does not understand the meaning of the word “love”. But although a dog will not be able to learn our language, the dog makes full use of all other types of communication.
To express our love to a dog, we can use the following methods.
Attention
The most important sign of our love. Give your pet time, walk enough, look at him. A dog should feel special and loved, and the more attention that is given to it, the happier our dog is. Our pets suffer from its lack and can get sick; it is very difficult for a dog to know that the owner is not interested in him and does not have enough strength for him.
Games
A great way to show your affection. Most dogs love to play and are ready to chase a ball, sometimes without getting tired. And of course, the most interesting thing is to play with the owner, come up with new interesting things with him, run around and have fun. During the game, the dog relieves tension, unloads and then sleeps absolutely contentedly on its bed. Games are also important for establishing contact between a person and a puppy; in the game you learn to communicate with your pet, and you get no less pleasure than the dog
Intonation
Our dog doesn’t understand our speech, but the intonation is absolutely clear to him. It is not for nothing that dog handlers, when training their dogs, use various clearly demarcated intonations to achieve their goals. Don’t be shy to praise your dog, talk to it kindly, tell it how smart and beautiful it is, you will immediately see how your pet will perk up, its eyes will sparkle, its ears will stand up attentively and its tail will wag!
Co-sleeping
Dogs are pack animals and it is very important for them to sleep with their family. If there are several animals and they get along well with each other, be sure that they will also sleep together, laying their heads on top of each other or curled up in a ball. A dog is calmer and more comfortable when it settles down at the feet of its beloved owner at night. But this manifestation of love also has its downsides.
Constantly seeks physical contact with you
You may have read somewhere that dogs don't like being hugged very much. Indeed, one study proves this. But it’s worth mentioning that this study is based on the observations of just one person and is unlikely to have any serious scientific value, as it immediately loses its significance.
But even if some dogs aren't crazy about cuddling, physical contact is still incredibly important to them. Don't be too overzealous when squeezing your dog in a tight hug. Instead, you can pet or ruffle your pet's fur, scratch him, or lightly pat him on the back. You can find a lot of options on how to show your love in a way that is pleasant for both you and the dog.
Use the most pleasant intonation when communicating with your pet
Dogs understand us better than we think or even know. Yes, they are great observers, they love to sit quietly in a corner and look at what their owner is doing and how. What posture he takes, how he moves and even breathes.
The voice, its tone and intonation are what are extremely important for a dog. According to a study by scientists, dogs respond well to the intonation of the owner. The researchers conducted magnetic resonance imaging while owners interacted with their animals. It turned out that dogs react with great enthusiasm to the pleasant, gentle tone of voice and intonation that a person uses for praise. Moreover, as the data showed, the animals understood the meaning of each word.
Observe, the dog responds very well to your intonation. Therefore, show your love for her with the most beautiful words with a pleasant intonation for your pet. And she will definitely respond to your feelings.
You only go to events with your dog
Of course, it's good that you think about the dog, probably even saving your neighbors from hours of dog howling when you take your pet with you to events. However, some people with whom you go with your pet may have a phobia - a fear of dogs. And you won’t prove to them that your dog is the sweetest creature who wouldn’t hurt a fly.
In a large crowd of people, a dog can fall into a state of stress, which is bad for both it and those around it, because an animal under stress is very unpredictable and can even harm someone out of fear. Therefore, it is better to take the dog with you in the company of people already familiar to it, who don't mind your four-legged companion.
The dog cuddles with you
Hugs among people are an expression of mutual sympathy, affection, and trust. By transferring this method of demonstrating love to dogs, a person believes that they understand him the same way. Dr. Stanley Korek, an animal psychologist at the University of British Columbia, studied 250 photographs of owners hugging their dogs and came to the conclusion that what feels good to people causes anxiety to their pets.
In 8 out of 10 cases, the dogs showed anxiety by turning away from the person. Their ears were flattened and their eyes were closed. The scientist concluded that restricting freedom of movement is uncomfortable and causes stress. Only 8% of pets looked happy, the rest simply patiently tolerated their owner's behavior.
Dogs are animals that prefer to run away from danger rather than fight in response to a threat. And although they really value tactile contact with the leader, “hugs” block their view, not allowing them to keep the situation under control.
Not a mollycodle
Showing our affection can seem like a limitless process. When we consider the powerful positive effects that petting a dog can bring us, it can even become addictive to give so much love to our dogs. However, showing affection does not mean that they get bored with the kind of pampering we might think that what is suitable may not be the best for them. Also, the way we provide affection may not be your ideal. Take hugs, for example. While we might see this as a sign of intimacy, many dogs feel like they are cornered or trapped.
It is important not to breed dogs, as many may become too dependent on you and possessive behavior . While this can be a good thing when we're around, it can also cause separation anxiety when we're not around, which can be very stressful for dogs. Giving love to our dogs does not mean allowing them what they want without proper education. Overprotection can be dangerous to your dog's health. Your dog should have the freedom to express himself and feel happy, and learn to respect the rules of coexistence, which can avoid behavioral problems. Plus, it also means they're harder to discipline when they do something wrong.
Your pet loves to sleep with you
The safest place in a pack is next to the leader. Sleeping next to the owner is a privilege. In its absence, the smell remains there. You can lie around, try it on, improve your status, at least in your own imagination. Therefore, no matter how much the dog is forbidden to lie on the bed, it will always strive to get there.
Unless you tightly close access to the bedroom, but then your pet, previously cheerful and hooligan, will become the most unfortunate animal. The fact is that the flock sleeps together in a very limited area: it’s safer. Expelled individuals who have shown aggression towards their fellow tribesmen, especially puppies, remain abroad. Other packs will not accept them either.
There is no point in fighting the echoes of the behavior of wild ancestors. It is better to give your pet the opportunity to feel more confident when left alone. It is also interesting to observe the manifestation of imitative behavior: head on the pillow, body under the blanket.
Licking the owner's hands and face.
All owners know that if dogs lick their face or hands, they are showing their love. This is instinctive behavior. Dogs usually groom their puppies to keep them clean and nice. This shows the puppies that they are safe. The dog does the same with the owner and his family members.
Following on the heels.
If you let your dog, he will go with you to the ends of the earth. Wherever the owner goes, the dog that adores him will follow him everywhere. And if a dog is raised and specially trained, it will also always be ready to protect its owner from enemies.
Stand on your hind legs.
Dogs often stand on their hind legs, turning so that their front legs point directly at their owner. You can often see this when a dog is on a leash and cannot run up to its owner. This shows that the animal wants the owner to come up to him, untie him and let him run around. When dogs want to play, they also run up to their owner when he is sitting or standing and touch his knees with both front paws.
Rolling on the ground.
Many dogs, when they see their owner, begin to roll around on the ground excitedly. This happens because all dogs love to have their belly rubbed, so they ask their owner to do it. There is nothing better for them to be alone with their owner and feel loved.
Nose touching.
When dogs are sad and want to be pitied, they come to the owner and touch his hand with their nose, sometimes pushing his hand in such a way that they will certainly be petted. This is usually quite rare. When an owner pets a dog, it feels safe.
Scratching the ground with claws.
When a dog is on a leash and is not allowed near its owner, it begins to scratch the ground underneath it. By this she shows impatience and a desire to quickly reach the owner and play.
Position of the head on the owner's lap.
Large dogs that can reach their owner's lap love to rest their head on it. By this behavior they show that they want to be alone with their owner and feel protected. At the same time, “drooling” dogs will gladly smear all your clothes with drool. Sometimes they may try to get on your lap and climb. After all, they remember that when they were puppies, you took them in your arms.
Body touching the owner's legs.
Cats aren't the only ones who like to rub against their owner's legs. Dogs do this too, but very rarely. Usually this gesture shows that the dog is very bored or not feeling well.
Bringing various items.
When dogs want to be played with, they will bring you a ball, your slippers or a newspaper with the guarantee that you will throw it all away again, and they will bring it all to you again.
Be yourself and show emotions
It can be difficult for us to understand what a dog is thinking, but they never have such a problem; dogs perfectly capture our emotions. If you sincerely love your four-legged friend, believe me, he already knows this based on your timbre of voice, body language, actions and emotions. Be yourself when communicating with your friend and he will reward you with his love only as he can.
All our work in the center of Dog City is aimed at making the pet understand that he is loved, even when the person most dear to him is not around. Bring your pet to the dog kindergarten at VDNH and let him see for himself!
