Purpose
Indications for prescribing Marfloxin for dogs depend on the form of the drug.
Solution for injection is indicated for the treatment of:
- abscesses and infected wounds;
- urinary tract infections.
It is also used to prevent wound infections during surgery.
Marfloxin tablets are prescribed for the treatment of bacterial and mycoplasma infections in dogs:
- skin;
- respiratory organs;
- wounds;
- genitourinary system;
- soft tissues.
Contraindications
For each form of the drug there are general and individual restrictions.
General contraindications:
- intolerance to components;
- resistance of the pathogen to other substances of the fluoroquinolone group;
- simultaneous use of marfloxin with chloramphenicol and antibiotics of the tetracycline and macrolide groups.
The drug is not used for large breed puppies until they are one and a half years old, for others - until they are one year old.

Security measures
When working with drugs of both forms, it is necessary to adhere to the safety rules for using veterinary products and maintain personal hygiene.
If the medicine gets on the mucous membranes or skin, wash it off immediately with soap and water.
In case of allergic manifestations, consult a doctor immediately. It is advisable to have the instructions for the drug or label with you.
Persons sensitive to fluoroquinolones should avoid contact with the drug.
Used medication packaging must be disposed of with household waste.
Side effects
In some cases, the pet may experience accompanying effects:
- anorexia;
- vomit;
- decrease in physical activity.
Often side effects appear in an old, weakened animal with severe concomitant pathology.
Sometimes, after an injection of a veterinary drug, a dog experiences the following pathological symptoms:
- neurological disorders;
- convulsive syndrome;
- depression;
- behavior disorder.
If side effects develop, you should stop taking the medication and seek help from a doctor.
Neurological symptoms after taking fluoroquinolone are observed if the dose of the drug has been exceeded. Sometimes your pet develops loose stools and their health worsens. Symptoms do not require discontinuation of fluoroquinolone and quickly disappear after 1-2 days.
After administration of an antibiotic subcutaneously, inflammation at the injection site rarely develops. In this case, it is necessary to treat the skin with an antiseptic.
If a pet has an individual reaction to taking the drug, treatment is stopped and the animal is given antihistamines prescribed by a veterinarian. Old dogs develop joint pathology:
- myalgia;
- tendon inflammation.
