Veterinary use of Ivermek for dogs, as well as instructions and dosage

Composition and action

The therapeutic effect is exerted by ivermectin, which acts as the main active component of Ivermec.

The antiparasitic effect extends:

  • nematodes of any stage of development;
  • lice;
  • sarcoptic mites;
  • subcutaneous, nasopharyngeal and other parasites.

The mechanism of action is a disruption of the conduction of nerve impulses in the body of the parasite, which leads to its paralysis and then death.

In addition to ivermectin, the drug may contain additional components:

  • tocopherol
    (vitamin E) – contained in the solution for injection. It prevents the development of inflammatory processes that are caused by parasites in the body;
  • panthenol
    – added to Ivermec gel. An anti-inflammatory substance that has a wound healing effect. Quickly restores skin cells damaged as a result of the activity of mites, lice and other insects that parasitize the skin of an animal;
  • chlorhexidine
    - together with panthenol, it is part of the spray. An antiseptic and disinfectant that prevents the spread of infection and the development of inflammatory processes on the skin caused by bites of fleas, ticks and other parasites.

The injection solution contains the highest concentration of ivermectin, it is used for severe infestation, as well as for intestinal parasite infection, the spray and gel are applied to the skin as an insecticidal agent. The drug administered intramuscularly begins to act quickly, reaching its maximum concentration in the blood plasma within an hour.

Important! Ivermek is a moderately toxic drug, so it cannot be used for self-medication.

Reviews about the drug from dog owners and veterinarians

The drug really has a strong toxic effect not only on parasites, but also on pets, so it is very important to follow all the rules of use and follow the veterinarian’s recommendations. Reviews are mixed, the medicine is really strong, but the side effects and possible threats scare dog breeders.

  • Christina (dog breeder):

“We have 2 dogs and use flea and tick spray regularly. An excellent drug, easy to use, no side effects, it’s just important to follow the dosage.”

  • Svetlana (dog breeder):

Purpose

Taking into account the therapeutic effect that ivermectin has, the drug in the form of injections is prescribed:

  • with otodectosis;
  • demodicosis;
  • sarcoptic mange;
  • psoroptosis;
  • diseases caused by intestinal parasites. Ivermek is active against Toxocara, Ancystoloma, Uncinaria.

Otodectosis, otherwise known as ear scabies, is a disease caused by microscopic mites. They parasitize in the ear canal and cause inflammation. In advanced cases, animals face serious complications.

The causative agents of demodicosis are mites of the genus Demodex. Almost a third of domestic animals are carriers of this parasite, which causes severe skin diseases. The pathology is accompanied by itching and hair loss, but these are only external signs signaling infection. Most often, animals with weakened immune systems, endocrine or autoimmune diseases are susceptible to the disease. If left untreated, animals develop malnutrition, and infection leads to general sepsis and death.

Sarcoptic mange

– a contagious skin disease caused by the scabies mite. The microscopic parasite bites into the skin, makes passages in the upper layers of the epidermis along which it moves, causing severe itching and irritation. The animal scratches its skin, which leads to hair loss. The disease is dangerous because it is transmitted from animals to humans.

Psoroptosis

(cutaneous scabies) - caused by psoroptid mites. In the area of the neck and sides, the skin itches, becomes inflamed, the hair falls out, and crusts form in its place. Ticks, the causative agents of the disease, become more active during the cold season. Ivermec gel is used to combat them if the lesion is not widespread. For large areas of infection, it is better to use a spray.

Intestinal helminths are no less dangerous than ticks and fleas. Nematodes - roundworms - parasitize the dog's body, causing inflammatory processes in the digestive organs and poisoning the animal's body with waste products. If there is a large accumulation of worms, severe intoxication is possible, which can lead to the death of the pet. Ivermek gel and spray in this case will not be able to cope with the invasion, since their active substances do not penetrate the bloodstream. To get rid of parasites, intramuscular injection of a medicinal solution is recommended.

Dosage

The medicine is considered safe for animals if the dosage is strictly observed. However, the toxicity of the drug requires its use strictly as prescribed by the veterinarian, who draws up a treatment regimen. When using an injection solution, the standard dose is 0.2 ml per 10 kg of animal weight. In this case, there is a danger of exceeding the dosage when using the medicine for small breed animals. It is recommended to use Ivermek for such animals under the supervision of a veterinarian.

Rules for using the drug:

  • intramuscular injection is given once;
  • in case of severe invasion, a second procedure is allowed after 8-10 days;
  • simultaneously with Ivermek, you need to use drugs that support liver function.

The gel and spray are used externally: for treatment, the drug is used in a volume of 0.2 ml per 1 kg of pet’s weight. First, you need to remove scabs from the affected areas of the skin using lotion, and be sure to wear a muzzle or cervical collar so that the dog cannot lick the medicine from the skin. The gel is applied directly to the affected areas, the spray is sprayed on them from a distance of 20-40 cm. After half an hour, the muzzle can be removed.

The procedure should be repeated 2 to 4 times, with an interval of up to 5-7 days. The veterinarian will draw up an exact treatment regimen, and he can also discontinue the medication after assessing the result of therapy and the condition of the animal.

Important! Ivermec is toxic to fish, so you should not spray the spray in a room with an aquarium.

Instructions for the use of Ivermectin in the treatment of people

Statistics show that every sixth person is infected with helminths. Most people don’t even realize it, but the worms continue to multiply and destroy internal organs.

For the treatment of people, tablets are produced that are taken in the morning on an empty stomach. They should not be chewed, but should be swallowed whole with water. The daily dose is calculated individually: 12 kg of patient weight - 20 mg of the active ingredient.

The course of therapy is prescribed by the attending physician. After completion of treatment, in order to prevent re-infection, you can repeat the course, but only after 3 weeks.

During therapy, the doctor is obliged to monitor the patient’s condition. If necessary, he can always change the dosage.

Application and special instructions

The product is used:
