Trontil for dogs is a complex anthelmintic, effective against most types of round and flatworms
pharmachologic effect
The drug, due to the action of the main substances, is capable of causing paralysis in various types of parasites (mesocestoids, trichur, hookworm, toxocar, echinococcus, etc.), which ultimately leads to the death of the worms. This occurs by suppressing enzyme activity and increasing the permeability of cell membranes, which causes severe disruption of the integrity of the body and muscles of the parasites.
The medicine affects helminths at any stage of their development. For dogs, the product does not pose any danger, because it does not exhibit teratogenic, embryotoxic or sensitizing effects. Trontil is quickly absorbed and begins an active fight against parasites. It is excreted in feces and urine within 2-3 days.
Dosage and instructions for use
The medicine is fed to pets in three ways: directly on the root of the tongue, with a piece of treat (minced meat, sausage, cheese, etc.) or together with food. Some owners crush the required amount of tablets, make a suspension by mixing the powder with water, and feed the mixture to the pet.
In recommended doses, the medicine does not pose any danger to the life and health of the animal.
The dosage for dogs and cats is as follows:
- Pets whose weight does not exceed 2 kg – a quarter of the medicine.
- Dogs and cats weighing 2-5 kg – half a tablet.
- Animals whose weight is 5-10 kg are whole.
- Medium-sized dogs (20-30 kg) – 2-3 pieces, respectively.
- Large animals from 40-45 kg – 4 pieces.
Troncil is given to animals once, but in case of severe infection, the procedure can be repeated after 7-10 days.
For prevention, the product is fed to animals once every 3-5 months.
For pets bearing offspring, Troncil can be given only in the last stages of pregnancy (no earlier than 2-3 weeks before birth).
Side effects
Trontsil copes well with helminthiasis, but if you use it incorrectly (do not follow the expiration date, exceed the dosage), then there is a risk of making your pet’s life even more difficult. Among the side effects that may occur after using the drug are the following:
- diarrhea;
- weakness;
- drowsiness;
- dizziness and loss of orientation in space;
- muscle pain and headaches.
You should not wait for the symptoms to go away on their own; it is better to immediately contact a veterinarian or take your dog to the clinic.

If there are signs of poisoning, it is recommended to give your pet a sorbent to speed up the removal of toxins from the body. The following drugs can be used:

Description of the drug
Trontsil is a complex drug that has anthelmintic properties . It is used to treat dogs against tapeworms and roundworms. Indications for use are nematodosis and cestodosis. In addition, the medicine is used for preventive purposes.
The main active ingredients are praziquantel, febantel and pyrantel embonate. In addition, the composition also includes auxiliary substances. The drug is released in tablet form. Externally, tablets for internal use have a light yellow tint. One package contains 10 pieces in two blisters.
Trontsil affects parasitic individuals at various stages of development. The mechanism of its operation suggests that the active components of the drug disrupt the process of glucose transfer in the organisms of parasites, and also prevent the performance of microtubular functions and the production of ATP. The permeability of membranes of cellular structures increases. All these changes lead to problems with muscle innervation. In the future, the parasite can expect only paralysis and death. In addition, the active components of Trontsil also help remove the remains of individuals from the tissues of the digestive tract.
The intestines quickly absorb the drug if used orally. After this, the active components quickly spread throughout the organs and internal systems. Praziquantel is excreted from the human body to a large extent together with urine, and has a metabolized form. But the intestines can only partially absorb febantel and pyrantel. These compounds are excreted along with feces within 1-2 days. The maximum concentration of active components in the dog’s body lasts up to 24 hours. Within 2 days, all substances are removed from the body. There is no cumulative effect.
In terms of the degree of influence on animal organisms, Trontil belongs to the group of low-hazard compounds . If the dosage is strictly followed, it does not cause sensitizing or other effects.
Precautionary measures
All parasite repellents can be harmful if used incorrectly. To avoid trouble, follow the rules of prevention:
- Wear disposable gloves.
- Be careful not to get the medicine in your eyes or on your skin. If this does happen, you need to thoroughly rinse the area with water. If you have an allergy, go to your doctor.
- Calculate the dosage carefully.
- Make sure that other pets do not eat Troncil.
- After the procedure, throw away the medicine packaging and gloves.
Owner reviews
Natalya, Moscow
“Troncil was recommended at a veterinary pharmacy. I looked, the composition is not bad, the price is also “good”, I decided to buy it. The pharmacy only had a large package, but I was not upset, since I was going to worm the dog every three months. And so it happened. The drug has taken root with us, so I don’t regret buying a lot. I grind the tablet and add it to food, the dog eats it without any problems. There are no worms, no side effects. I advise."
Artem, Kazan
“I suffered for a long time with various pastes and suspensions, for some reason my dog reacts poorly to them (he is constantly salivating and does not want to eat). I decided to try the medicine in tablets; the pharmacy suggested Trontsil. Added it to food. The dog ate it without noticing anything. There were no problems, except for one-day constipation, so from now on I will only buy this medicine!”
Reviews
Svetlana, Moscow. I use different drugs to prevent worms, but I try to focus on the composition.
Many dog breeders use Trontsil to deworm their pets.
I buy Trontil often, my Scottish Terriers tolerate it very well. I don’t mind mixing it into food, I just put the tablet on the root of the tongue, the dog swallows it and gets something tasty. No diarrhea or constipation was noted, the tests were good, which means everything is working.
Natalya, St. Petersburg. The drug was recommended at the pharmacy. I liked the composition, the price is also right, you can buy as many tablets as you need for a particular dog. But I took the entire package; I deworm my court terrier every 3 months, so it will come in handy. The method of application is simple - I mix the crushed tablet into the food and give it by hand to make sure that the dog has eaten everything without a trace. There is no vomiting or diarrhea.
Danila, Gorno-Altaisk. I suffered for a long time with all sorts of suspensions and pastes; my bull terrier reacts to them with drooling and nausea. Tired of tormenting myself and tormenting the dog, I bought regular pills. Got Trontsil. The pharmacy told me how to give the tablets and counted out the required amount. Very comfortably. I stuffed the pill into a piece of sausage and fed it to him before breakfast. The dog reacted normally and did not drool. True, there was slight constipation, but only for a day.
