COMPOSITION AND FORM OF RELEASE

A solution for oral use, 1 ml of which contains 50 mcg of cabergoline as an active ingredient. Packaged in dark glass bottles of 7 ml and 15 ml, which are packaged together with a glass graduated pipette in a protective case in cardboard boxes.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Cabergoline is a derivative of ergoline (ergot alkaloid), has a stimulating effect on dopamine receptors of the hypothalamic-pituitary system, which is involved in the secretion of the main hormone of lactogenesis, prolactin, and has an inhibitory effect on its secretion. Apart from its effect on prolactin-dependent processes, cabergoline does not affect other endocrine processes. The use of Galastop prevents lactation, breast enlargement and the development of lactation mastitis. A decrease in prolactin levels contributes to the rapid disappearance of signs of false pregnancy, as well as changes in the animal’s behavior. When used simultaneously with dopamine receptor blockers, the effectiveness of Galastop is reduced.

INDICATIONS

Prescribed to bitches for the treatment of false pregnancy and suppression of lactation for clinical indications (for example, early weaning of puppies).

DOSES AND METHOD OF APPLICATION

The drug is administered orally with food or forcefully on the tongue at a dose of 0.1 ml (3 drops) per 1 kg of animal weight for 4-6 days. If there is no effect or symptoms of false pregnancy appear after stopping the drug, the course can be repeated.

SIDE EFFECTS

Very rarely, some animals may experience single vomiting, lack of appetite or drowsiness in the first two days of treatment, which does not require discontinuation of the drug.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

The use of Galastop during pregnancy is prohibited due to the increased likelihood of abortion. It is not recommended for use in animals with hypotension or simultaneously with antihypertensive drugs, or animals under the influence of anesthetic drugs, as well as after surgery due to the possible enhancement of the hypotensive effect of the drug.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

In case of overdose, supportive symptomatic therapy is carried out aimed at suppressing vomiting and restoring blood pressure. Metoclopramide is used as an antidote.

STORAGE CONDITIONS

In a dry place, protected from light and out of reach of children, at a temperature of 5-25 ºС. Shelf life: 3 years. The shelf life after opening the bottle is 28 days.

MANUFACTURER

Ceva Sante Animale, France.

Advantages and disadvantages

Galastop has many advantages:

  • has high efficiency;
  • Available in bottles of different sizes, which allows you to choose the appropriate packaging;
  • is easy to use;
  • treatment does not require a long course (just a few days);
  • acts quickly (the effect can become noticeable after just a few hours).

A significant disadvantage is the presence of contraindications and a high risk of side effects, especially if used incorrectly. You should not use the medication without first consulting your doctor. When first used, it is worth observing the animal in order to provide timely assistance in case of allergies. The disadvantages include the rather high price of Galastop.

Composition and action

Cabergoline inhibits the release of prolactin, the hormone responsible for lactation. The positive point is that the medicine does not have any effect on other organs of the endocrine system.

Galastop relieves signs of false pregnancy, which causes changes in the behavior of the female. The medicine is prescribed to prevent lactation and the development of mastitis. It begins to act quickly: after 4-8 hours the maximum concentration of the active substance in the blood is reached, thanks to which it is possible, if necessary, to accelerate the cessation of lactation and correct the behavior of a female who is showing signs of a false pregnancy.

Side effects and contraindications

Side effects while taking Galastop are rare, but if you do not comply with the dosage, or the dog is allergic to the components of the drug, then the following symptoms may occur:

  • drowsiness;
  • vomit;
  • lack of appetite.

If you notice these signs, do not try to act on your own; it is better to seek specialized help at the nearest veterinary clinic.

The product also has contraindications, including:

  • pregnancy;
  • renal failure;
  • allergy to the components included in the drug.

Also, you should not give the medicine to a female who has puppies near her; it can enter their body through milk. In case of an overdose of the drug, which manifests itself in the form of vomiting, diarrhea, refusal to eat and general weakness, you should consult a veterinarian. Metoclopramide is considered a good antidote, but in order not to harm the animal, it is better not to treat it yourself.

Purpose

A false pregnancy is a psychophysical deviation in the female’s hormonal system and in her body as a whole. The first signs appear 1-1.5 months after estrus, when the dog’s body begins to actively produce certain hormones, as in true pregnancy. False puerility is manifested by the following signs:

  • toxicosis, vomiting in the morning;
  • decreased appetite;
  • apathy;
  • nervousness;
  • loss of interest in games, walks;
  • abdominal enlargement;
  • swelling of the mammary glands;
  • release of colostrum from them;
  • “nesting” – searching for a place to give birth to puppies.

The state of imaginary pregnancy is not dangerous for the animal, but its consequences can be fatal. Imaginary pregnancy is dangerous:

  • irreversible nervous disorders;
  • purulent mastitis – inflammation of the mammary glands;
  • endometritis – inflammation of the uterine mucosa;
  • pyometritis - purulent inflammation in the uterus, which often leads to the death of the animal;
  • oncology of the mammary glands, reproductive organs.

These dangerous consequences can be prevented by using Galastop, which helps reduce prolactin levels in the body.

Restrictions

The medicine has a natural composition, but still has prohibitions on use. You can't use it:

  • with hypersensitivity to the medication;
  • hypotension (low blood pressure);
  • pathologies of the liver and kidneys;
  • during pregnancy.

The simultaneous use of Galastop with certain medications is limited, so it cannot be used for self-medication. The medicine may have side effects:

  1. in the first days of use, nausea and vomiting are possible;
  2. refusal to eat;
  3. drowsiness, apathy.

More dangerous are:

  • muscle tremors;
  • impaired coordination of movements;
  • anorexia;
  • lethargy.

If side effects are detected, the veterinarian stops the medication and prescribes symptomatic therapy.

The following veterinary drugs have the same effect as Galastop:

  1. LactoStop drops;
  2. Bromocriptine tablets;
  3. homeopathic medicine Ovariovit.

Veronica, toy terrier owner

My Tina doesn’t leave my side during my walk, and then I noticed signs of pregnancy. I'm panicking, it's good that the vet explained that this is a false pregnancy. He prescribed Galastop. She gave the drops with food, and all the symptoms went away.

Irina, owner of an American Akita

Against the backdrop of a false pregnancy, my Esti felt very bad. The temperature rose, mastitis appeared, the dog lay and whined all the time. They prescribed Galastop - the signs of pregnancy disappeared, but a reaction to the medicine appeared: vomiting, aggression, refusal to eat. You should give drops with caution if you value your pet’s health.

Galastop has a natural composition, it is effective, but it cannot be used for self-medication. There is a risk of side effects, so I recommend sterilizing your pet for those who do not plan to have puppies. There is no need for extra medications for your dog.

Important points

When using Galastop, it is necessary to follow the general safety precautions used when working with veterinary medicinal products. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should take special precautions. To prevent direct contact with the medication, it is advisable to use rubber gloves.

If drops get on the mucous membranes or epidermis, the area of contact should be washed with water. If allergies occur, do not delay going to the hospital. Be sure to take the packaging or bottle with you.

Composition and release form

In addition to cabergoline (the main active ingredient), the drug contains flavorings, preservatives and coconut oil. Despite the fact that cabergoline performs the main function, secondary substances are also important, because without them it is impossible to create a full-fledged modern medicine.

Galastop for dogs is available in the form of a solution for oral administration. The medicine has a yellowish tint and a liquid, oily consistency. 1 ml of the drug contains 50 mcg of active substance.

The medication is produced in two variations of 7 and 15 ml. The liquid is contained in dark glass vials. Additional cardboard packaging is available. The drug comes with instructions with a detailed description of the action and dosage of the drug.

The price of the product depends on the volume:

You can buy Galastop for dogs at your nearest veterinary pharmacy. And although the drug is produced in France, there is usually no shortage of it in pharmacies. An exception may be small cities. It is not difficult to purchase the drug on the Internet, on a site specializing in the sale of veterinary medications, feed and other products for animals.

pharmachologic effect

Cabergoline has a stimulating effect on dopamine receptors of the hypothalamic-pituitary system, which is involved in the secretion of the main hormone of lactogenesis, prolactin, and has an inhibitory effect on its production.

Cabergoline does not affect other processes in the animal’s body, so if the drug is taken correctly, there are no negative consequences. Using Galastop in the right dosage can quickly reduce pregnancy symptoms and improve the condition of the animal as a whole.

After taking the drug, suppression of signs of false pregnancy begins after 4-8 hours and lasts up to 14 days (duration depends on dosage). The drug is considered moderately dangerous. Excreted from the body with feces.

Indications for use

Galastop is prescribed to dogs for:

  • treatment of false pregnancy;
  • suppression of lactation for clinical indications (death or early weaning of puppies);
  • treatment of lactation mastitis.

Even if your dog suffers from one of these problems, do not rush to buy Galastop and begin treatment. Only a doctor should prescribe the remedy. After all, you don’t know how your pet’s body will react to the drug; for this you need to take tests and undergo an examination.

Home treatment may not only not rid the animal of the problem, but also add a couple of new ones.

Analogues of the drug Galastop

Lacto-stop is a domestic analogue of Galastop.
It is not always possible to purchase Galastop, and the situation of lactation mastitis requires urgent help for the dog.

Therefore, it is important to know its analogues:

  • Lacto-stop is a domestic analogue of Galastop for dogs, produced in France. It contains the same active ingredient and is used in a similar dosage.
  • Covinan is a hormonal drug that suppresses lactation. It contains the hormone prolygestone, which suppresses the functions of the ovaries and mammary glands. Covinan is administered subcutaneously.
  • Mastomethrin is a homeopathic medicine that can be used for false pregnancy and mastitis. It has no side effects, however, the effect is very weak.

Dosage and procedure for use

Before using the medicine, you need to calculate the dosage at the rate of 0.1 ml (3 drops) per 1 kg of weight. One course of taking the drug is 4-6 days. It can be repeated if necessary.

The medicine is added to food, but you can immediately drip it onto the dog’s tongue if you are sure that it will not begin to resist. After the procedure, do not forget to wash your hands and pet your pet, because it is very difficult for him, and then you also have to take medicine.

If you decide to add the product to food, then make sure that your pet eats it completely; to be on the safe side, give the animal something that it will definitely eat (its favorite treat). The drug should be taken once a day (preferably at the same time). You should consult your veterinarian about continuing treatment.

Interaction with other drugs

This product has established itself as an independent product that does not require additional “support” from other drugs. If the situation is critical, and Galastop alone does not help the animal get rid of the problem, complex treatment may be prescribed.

It is not recommended to combine drugs on your own; this can cause an allergic reaction and a number of other side effects.

If for some reason you cannot buy Galastop, then you can purchase one of the drug’s analogues.

"Mastometrin"

This is a homeopathic remedy that is used to combat the symptoms of false pregnancy. The drug contains matrix tinctures. Available in the form of an injection solution. This is a low-hazard substance (hazard class 4). , Russia.

Hormonal drug. Contains the hormone prolygestone, which “can” suppress the functions of the mammary glands and ovaries. Available in the form of a solution for injection. Produced in the Netherlands.

Russian-made product (manufactured). The active ingredient is cabergoline. The product is an almost exact copy of Galastop, the only difference is the price.

All these drugs can be found in any veterinary pharmacy; the compositions are slightly different from Galastop, but their task is exactly the same - to fight mastitis and false pregnancy. To avoid allergies and other unpleasant consequences, consult your veterinarian before using the medicine.

Veronica, Murmansk

“The problem arose when the children brought home a small puppy. Our Jessica (the dog) began to behave very strangely, she dragged the puppy along with her, and did not let anyone touch him. They took me to the vet, he said it was “false pregnancy”, prescribed Galastop. The drug was given with food, after 3 days Jessica calmed down, and the puppy was given to friends just in case. The medicine helped well, so I can confidently recommend it.”

Svetlana, Rostov-on-Don

“This drug has become our salvation! Our dachshund got her first puppy, we decided to give it to our niece, which we very soon regretted. The dog began to behave strangely, refused to eat, constantly lay down and breathed heavily, and a day later we noticed a tumor on its abdomen. They called a doctor, he gave several injections and told me to take Galastop. The drug helped perfectly, on the second day the animal felt much better, and after 6 days the swelling subsided, the dog began to behave as before again.”

Tamara, Barnaul

“Galastop didn’t help us at all. After the first dose, the dog began to vomit and whine. I had to call the vet. He forbade taking Galastop and recommended another remedy, which, fortunately, helped cope with false pregnancy.”

Owner reviews

Veronica, owner of a Xolo female:

“Due to a false pregnancy, the dog developed severe mastitis with a high fever. The doctor prescribed Galastop. Already on the third day, the mammary glands decreased in size, the inflammation almost went away, but on the 4th day side effects arose. The dog refused to eat, became irritable, wouldn’t let anyone near him, and started vomiting severely. I had to put her on an IV. In this regard, the opinion about the drug is ambiguous - effective, but dangerous.”

Lyudmila, an avid dog lover:

“There are always several dogs living in my house. I have repeatedly used Galastop for false pregnancy. It helps to cope with hormonal imbalance, but often causes vomiting. I use it only in cases where folk remedies are powerless (camphor oil, cabbage leaves).”
