Pets - cats and dogs - can live both at home and in the yard (or go out there for a walk), but in any case they are constantly at risk of contracting dangerous diseases. On the street, an animal can pick up the virus from another animal or simply from the ground, but purely domestic pets become infected through dirt brought by a person on shoes. Proper vaccination will help reduce the possibility of infection to a minimum. This is not to say that the risk of infection will be completely eliminated, because this is not the case, but the risks will still be minimal.
Today, the most popular drug for both dogs and cats is Nobivak, the vaccination scheme of which will be presented in this article. The features of care after the procedure, possible contraindications and complications will also be described. How to prepare an animal for vaccination? Nobivacom vaccination regimens for dogs and cats differ from each other.
Description of the drug
The drug is a white powder packaged in vials; the vaccination kit also contains ampoules with a solvent. In some cases, Nobivak, the vaccination regimen for which will be prescribed below, is provided in veterinary clinics for monovalent vaccination in the form of a separate ampoule with a ready-to-use solution.
A damaged bottle of powder or one that has expired must be thrown away. Opened powder is used only for one hour, since after this the living organisms contained in the composition will die, and there will be no use from the vaccination. If a bottle of the drug is accidentally damaged or the expiration date has expired, then before throwing it away, it must be rendered harmless by boiling for 10 minutes.
How to vaccinate your pet yourself?
It is better to entrust the first injections to a specialist. The veterinarian will accurately calculate the dose for a small pet in accordance with the instructions, taking into account its weight. An examination by a doctor at the initial stage of vaccination of young animals will determine how healthy the pet is and is ready for vaccinations. In addition, your veterinarian will be able to help if your pet has an allergic reaction to the drug.
Repeated vaccination can be done at home. The dog is first given anthelmintic drugs. This must be done 10 days before vaccination. To properly vaccinate an animal, you must follow the following procedure:
- print a bottle with dry cultures;
- pour 1 ml of Diluent solvent into it, which is included in the kit;
- close the container and shake it several times until the mixture is homogeneous;
- draw the required amount of substance into the syringe, remove air, replace the needle with a sterile one;
- pull back the skin at the withers, insert a needle under the skin under the thumb;
- inject the drug, massage the injection site.
Nobivak KS is not difficult to use even for those who do not know how or are afraid to give injections. It needs to be mixed and dropped into the dog’s nostril using the nozzle that is sold complete with the vaccine.
Varieties of vaccine
The drug is produced by Intervet International. The company's office is located in the Netherlands (this state is listed in the "country" column Nobivac KS - a drug intended for vaccinating dogs against such dangerous viruses as parainfluenza and bordetellosis. Unlike many vaccinations, this one is not given either subcutaneously or into the muscle, and is given to the dog orally.
Types of Nobivak vaccine for dogs
Puppies receive part of their immunity from their mother.
As a rule, antibodies obtained from mother's milk can protect the baby only until the age of eight weeks, and then they gradually disappear. Therefore, there is a risk of infection of a young animal with distemper or infectious enteritis. To protect the puppy’s body, a special vaccine Nobivak PuppyDP has been developed to protect the puppy’s body from the virus of fatal diseases. The drug is used when the animal is four weeks old. After a single use, the body receives protection from canine distemper and parvovirus enteritis. The vaccine is produced in powder form and is diluted with a special solvent before use. The dose does not depend on age, weight or breed. The injection is placed under the skin. Immunization is necessary if there is a possible risk of infection of the entire litter or an upcoming long-distance trip.
The Nobivak DHPP vaccine is intended for use in puppyhood, providing protection of the body against parvovirus enteritis, infectious hepatitis, and canine distemper. It is used when the puppy is two months old. The drug is administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly. The guaranteed effect occurs only after twice use with a break of 21 days.
- The dog vaccine Nobivac KS is used in the form of nasal drops and is prepared immediately before use. The animal does not experience stress from the injection, since the drug is injected into the nose using a syringe. Sneezing may be a reaction to the medicine. This vaccine is safe and non-toxic. It can be used to immunize pregnant animals and puppies from 14 days of age.
- Nobivak L or Nobivak L4 - Lepto protects dogs from infection with leptospirosis and prevents the possibility of carrying a dangerous disease. Leptospirosis is dangerous not only for animals, but also for humans, since even after recovery the animal is able to release active viruses into the environment. The drug is produced in the form of a suspension, which can be used in conjunction with other Nobivak vaccines. Very often, when vaccinating dogs after three months, veterinarians dilute the complex vaccine not with a solvent, but with the Nobivak L vaccine.
- Nobivak R and LR are rabies vaccines, the use of which is mandatory for all animals. Without a mark in the veterinary passport, the dog cannot participate in exhibitions or be allowed to be transported on any transport. To prevent a fatal disease, owners can get a mandatory free vaccination or use the Nobivak R or Nobivak RL vaccine. The vaccine is produced in the form of a suspension for subcutaneous or intramuscular use. It is used as a solvent for complex vaccines or independently. Vaccination is carried out once a year.
- Nobivac DHPP is a comprehensive vaccine for the prevention of viral hepatitis, canine distemper, parainfluenza and parvovirus enteritis. Nobivac DHPPi is used for animals from eight weeks of age. Nobivac dhppi is diluted with a solvent and used subcutaneously. The Nobivac DHPPI vaccine is administered again at 12 weeks, then once a year.
Nobivac Diluent is a sterile diluent consisting of sodium hydrogen phosphate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate and water for injection.
Nobivac for dogs against leptospirosis is used after the dog changes teeth, as well as for immunizing adult animals. It protects the body from rabies and leptospirosis.
Very often, veterinarians recommend vaccinating dogs against parainfluenza and bordetellosis, which affect the dog’s upper respiratory tract and are very dangerous especially for young animals and puppies.
Pharmacological properties
The drug contains strains of viruses in small quantities, which, penetrating into the animal’s body, develop immunity. The Nobivacom vaccination scheme involves two vaccinations spaced apart (we will discuss it further). The effect of the drug begins only a week and a half after the administration of the second vaccine, therefore during this period of time the dog is prohibited from walking, contact with unvaccinated animals, and quarantine is indicated.
The manufacturer guarantees complete safety of the vaccination for the animal; the drug does not cause allergic reactions.
There are no contraindications as such. The only thing that can happen is that the animal is intolerant to the components of the vaccine.
Vaccination with Nobivak is also possible for females during pregnancy; there is no contraindication.

"Nobivak": puppy vaccination scheme
At two weeks of age, a small dog is given Nobivak KS.
Puppies at 8 or 9 weeks of age should be vaccinated with Nobivac DHP, DHPPi and Lepto. Re-vaccination is carried out after 3-4 weeks at the age of 12 weeks.
If the puppy is vaccinated earlier, at 4-6 weeks, then you need to get the Nobivak Pappy vaccination. In the future, after three weeks, it is necessary to install Nobivak DHP or DHPPi. In the future, the complex Nobivak vaccination should be given at the age of one year (and then every year thereafter).
Puppies can only be vaccinated against rabies at twelve weeks of age. Repeated vaccination is carried out only after three years.
The Nobivak puppy vaccination schedule can be changed by the veterinarian due to the general condition of the animal. At the time of vaccination, the dog must be active and completely healthy.
As for the dosage of the drug, the instructions for use of the Nobivak vaccine say that one ampoule is intended for one entire use, regardless of the size, breed and age of the animal. That is, one ampoule - one animal.
Nobivac Rabies
A vaccine designed to protect a pet from rabies . It contains killed viruses grown in an artificial environment. It looks like a ready-made suspension of yellowish color. The solution is administered at 3-12 months for the first time and repeated every three years. Moreover, the effect begins after 3 weeks , and the drug works for up to 36 months . In particularly dangerous conditions (with a high incidence of disease in the region), annual vaccination is permitted.
The average cost is 180 rubles . The total price of a specialist’s work is 350-500 rubles .
Vaccinations for adult dogs
If the dog has never been vaccinated, then you need to discuss the need for this with a veterinarian, who will competently draw up a vaccination schedule for an adult dog.
Nobivak is reintroduced a year after the first vaccinations. The anti-rabies drug is effective for three years.
It is necessary to have a vaccination passport for your dog, which will indicate the vaccination (what vaccination, date). With such a passport you will definitely not forget about the approach of the next one. Without a vaccination certificate, the dog will not be allowed on public transport (train, plane, intercity bus).
How to protect your dog
It is important to follow the rules that will help protect your pet from deadly viruses and complications after vaccination. The first rule is to buy a medicine only if it has its certificates. There are counterfeits of this drug, it is better to spend more time checking the medicine than to suffer from possible problems later. It is worth looking at people's reviews of the pharmacy where you are planning to buy the drug. Never skimp on vaccination services provided by veterinarians; it’s not even about the injection process itself, but about the ability to provide assistance in emergency cases.
It is important to take into account the dog’s predisposition to allergies; it may be worth giving an antiallergic drug before vaccination. In between injections, you can strengthen your immune system with vitamins.
Preparing for vaccination
The Nobivak vaccination regimen for dogs can be changed if the animal becomes ill when it reaches the age for vaccination. Also, vaccinations are not given until the dog is dewormed. Helminths simply will not allow the drug to work, and the money will be wasted, and the pet will be left without protection.
If ears and tails need to be cropped, this is done at least three weeks before vaccination.
Vaccinations are also not given to dogs that have just been purchased from a breeder or a shelter, or that have been found on the street. The animal needs to be monitored for several weeks and examined by a veterinarian in order to identify the presence of hidden diseases.
A couple of weeks before vaccination, the animal must be dewormed. Stop all training and active games 2-3 days before, the dog should be rested. Keep an eye on your stool, and if there are any irregularities, you will need to cancel the vaccination and reschedule it for another date. Note behavior, appetite, everything should be completely normal.
Before a dog is given a complex Nobivak vaccination, the animal is examined by a veterinarian. They weigh him, examine his mucous membranes, and measure his body temperature. Only if the results are good, the drug is administered.
Side effects after administration of the drug
Vaccines affect the dog’s immunity, so it may experience drowsiness and apathy. These phenomena disappear without any intervention 2 hours after the injection. Nobivak is considered one of the safest vaccinations. The use of this drug is rarely accompanied by side and allergic reactions. However, the owner should closely monitor the pet for several hours after vaccination.
The intranasal drug "Nobivak KS" sometimes causes swelling in the face, the dog may breathe heavily and sneeze. In some cases, mucus comes out of the nostrils, and hives appear on the surface of the nose.
Quarantine after vaccination
Within one and a half to two weeks after the second vaccination, the animal develops strong immunity to dangerous diseases, and it is during this period of time that quarantine must be observed. Puppies are not walked, they are taught to go to the diaper when needed.
As for adult dogs, they also develop immunity during the same time, and they also need quarantine. But you need to walk the dog! The only thing you should do during quarantine is:
- reduce walking time;
- avoid hypothermia, overwork;
- cancel all workouts and increased loads;
- do not allow the animal to come into contact with stray dogs and cats.
Swimming after vaccination is not recommended for the same two weeks. But if the situation is hopeless, then:
- wash your pet only with warm water;
- wipe well with a towel;
- close all windows and doors to allow the animal to dry without drafts.
Complications
Even if the Nobivak dog vaccination regimen is fully followed, some complications may appear - general and local. As for the latter, this is swelling at the injection site. Common symptoms include the following: refusal to eat, lethargy, fever.
Typically, such symptoms appear immediately after vaccination and disappear after a couple of days without a trace. If the condition persists, see a veterinarian.
There are also more serious complications - intolerance to some components of the drug. This is manifested by shortness of breath, increased salivation, and the mucous membranes may acquire a bluish tint. If any of the symptoms appear, be sure to see a doctor as soon as possible.
Next, the drug for cats “Nobivak Triket Trio” will be presented.
Rules of use for cats
Things are similar with cats, but there are still differences. The Nobivak kitten vaccination scheme is as follows:
- The first vaccination for a pet should be given no earlier than two months of age.
- Then, after a month, you need to re-vaccinate, because only after this is good, virus-resistant immunity developed.
- Revaccination is mandatory and is carried out every year. It is advisable to give vaccinations at the same time (+/- two weeks).
When revaccination, you need to vaccinate only once; for a second vaccination (as with the first vaccination), there is no need, antibodies will already begin to be produced by the body.
If the vaccination schedule is followed, Nobivak protects cats from such terrible diseases as rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia. Immunity from the first two diseases will be developed for a year, and from the last - for three.
Contraindications for Nobivac for cats
The animal must be completely healthy. For chronic conditions, it is important to consult a veterinarian to assess the risks. If the cat is just a little sick, then the vaccination is postponed to another time.
Under no circumstances should Nobivak be used for vaccination during cat pregnancy and during the period of feeding offspring. If the animal has been ill, but is still weakened, the vaccination should also be canceled and given only at the moment of complete recovery.
special instructions
The drug contains living organisms and should be used within half an hour after opening the package.
If the integrity of the packaging is damaged, the drug should not be used. In this case, as well as in case of overdue, you need to boil the ampoules for 10-15 minutes, then dispose of them.
The vaccine is not used if it contains foreign impurities or sediment. Such a drug must be disposed of according to all rules, even if it has not expired.
The dosage is the same for any animal, regardless of breed, size and age. That is, the entire ampoule must be administered to both an adult pet and a kitten.
Preparing the animal
Things are a little easier with cats than with dogs, especially if the animal does not go for walks. Before the first vaccination and two weeks after the second vaccination, kittens should not have contact with other people's animals (if there is a dog or other cats at home, except for the mother, then they also need to be removed), or human outdoor shoes. Before picking up the kitten, you need to wash them well with soap.
A week before vaccination, kittens are given an anthelmintic. You can use both tablets and drops for application to the withers. Without antihelminthic measures, there is no point in carrying out vaccinations; they will be useless.
Only completely healthy kittens with normal appetite and active behavior are vaccinated. After vaccination, the animal may feel unwell, but it will pass within two days. If the condition does not improve, contact your veterinarian.
A year later, the cat is again prepared for vaccination: anti-helminthic drugs, monitoring the condition. An adult, like a kitten, may feel unwell after vaccination.
