Features of the release form

It is more convenient to give deworming medications in tablets to those whose dogs are accustomed to taking medications in this form. If your pet is not capricious and does not endlessly spit out pills when you give them to him, you can offer him an anthelmintic in this form. In addition, the tablet form of drugs is usually cheaper.

The inconvenience of this form of drug release is that it is difficult to correctly calculate how many parts to divide the tablet into, if necessary. After all, if you give less than necessary, the desired effect will not be achieved, and this can result in unpleasant consequences for the animal, especially before vaccination.

If you significantly exceed the dose of the drug, side effects may occur. They are manifested by excessive lethargy, loss of appetite, apathy and foaming at the mouth. And in this case, you cannot do without a visit to the veterinarian.

Pharmacological properties

Prazicide-suspension Plus refers to combined anthelmintic drugs. The combination of praziquantel, febantel and pyrantel pamoate, which are part of the drug, provides a wide spectrum of its anthelmintic effect on gastrointestinal nematodes (Toxocara canis, Toxocara cati, Toxocara mistax, Toxascaris leonina, Uncinaria stenocephala, Trichuris vulpis, Ancylostoma caninum) and cestodes (Echinococcus granulosus, Alveococus multilocularis, Mesocestoides lineatus, Dipylidium caninum, Diphyllobotrium latum, Multiceps multiceps), parasitizing puppies.

Pyrantel pamoate is a compound of the pyrimidine group, its mechanism of action is based on blocking the transmission of nerve impulses at neuromuscular synapses by depolarizing the membranes of muscle cells, which causes paralysis of the muscular system of nematodes; pyrantel is poorly absorbed, which ensures its prolonged effect on helminths in the intestines; excreted from the body mainly unchanged (93%) in feces.

Praziquantel is a compound of the pyrazinisoquinoline group, active against gastrointestinal cestodes at all phases of development. By increasing the permeability of the parasite's cell membranes to calcium ions (Ca2+), it causes membrane depolarization, muscle contraction and tegument destruction, which leads to the death of helminths and promotes their elimination from the animal's body. The compound is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, reaching a maximum concentration in the blood plasma after 1-3 hours, reversibly binds to serum proteins (70-80%), is partially metabolized in the liver, re-excreted into the intestine, and excreted from the body mainly in the urine. (up to 80%) within 24 hours.

Prazicide Suspension Plus for small breed puppies 6 ml

COMPOSITION AND FORM OF RELEASE

Prazicide-suspension sweet (International nonproprietary name: praziquantel + pyrantel pamoate) is a complex anthelmintic drug containing 1.5 mg of praziquantel, 15 mg of febantel and 15 mg of pyrantel pamoate as active ingredients in 1 ml, as well as auxiliary components. It is a suspension for oral use. The drug is packaged in 6 ml volumes in polymer bottles with screw caps that are tamper evident along with a dosing syringe and stickers for a veterinary passport, packed in a cardboard box.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES Prazicide-suspension sweet is a combined drug that has a wide spectrum of activity against all stages of development of round and tapeworms, including Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina, Uncinaria spp., Ancylostoma spp., Trichuris vulpis, Echinococcus granulosus, Echinococcus multilocularis, Mesocestoides lineatus, Diphyllobothrium latum, Dipylidium caninum, Multiceps multiceps, Taenia spp., parasitic in puppies. Praziquantel, which is part of the suspension, increases the permeability of cell membranes to calcium ions and inhibits the parasite enzyme - fumarate reductase, causing spastic muscle contraction, turning into paralysis. The mechanism of action of pyrantel pamoate is to block neuromuscular transmission, disrupt the permeability of cell membranes and inhibit cholinesterase, which leads to paralysis and death of the helminth. When administered orally, praziquantel is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, reaches its maximum concentration in the blood plasma after 1–3 hours, is distributed in the organs and tissues of the animal and is excreted from the body in the form of metabolites in the urine (up to 80%) within 24 hours. Pyrantel pamoate is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, providing a longer parasitocidal effect directly in the intestine, and is excreted from the body mainly unchanged in feces (93%). The drug is easy to use, has a pleasant taste and is quite easily eaten by puppies. In terms of the degree of impact on the body of warm-blooded animals, Prazicide-suspension sweet is classified as a moderately hazardous substance and in recommended doses does not have a locally irritating, sensitizing, teratogenic or embryotoxic effect.

INDICATIONS Prescribed for preventive and therapeutic deworming of small breed puppies against nematodes and cestodes, including mixed infestations.

DOSES AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION Sweet Prazicide suspension is given to puppies orally once individually in the morning feeding with a small amount of food or administered directly to the root of the tongue using a dispenser syringe at the rate of 1 ml of suspension per 1 kg of body weight. Before use, the bottle of suspension must be shaken thoroughly for 1? 2 minutes. A preliminary fasting diet and the use of laxatives when using the drug are not required. For preventive purposes, deworming is carried out once every 3 months, as well as before each vaccination. Therapeutic measures against nematodes and cestodes are carried out according to indications. With a strong degree of invasion, the suspension is given again after 10 days.

SIDE EFFECTS In rare cases, allergic reactions are possible in animals sensitive to the components of the drug. In these cases, animals are given symptomatic therapy and prescribed antihistamines in accordance with the instructions for use. With a significant overdose of the drug, animals may experience a depressed state, refusal to feed, excessive salivation, and disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. In these cases, detoxification therapy is carried out.

CONTRAINDICATIONS Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug. It is not recommended to deworm puppies younger than 3 weeks of age, as well as those with infectious diseases, convalescent or malnourished animals. Do not prescribe the suspension simultaneously with piperazine derivatives and other drugs that inhibit cholinesterase.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS When using the drug in strict accordance with these instructions, no special instructions are required.

STORAGE CONDITIONS: In a dry place, protected from direct sunlight and out of reach of children and animals. Separated from food products and feed in the manufacturer's packaging at a temperature of 0 to 25 C. Shelf life - 2 years.

Doses and method of administration

The drug is administered to animals orally individually, in the morning feeding with a small amount of food, or forcibly administered to the root of the tongue using a dosing syringe in the following doses: 1 ml per 1 kg of animal weight. For preventive purposes, deworming of animals is carried out once a quarter, as well as before each vaccination. For therapeutic purposes, as well as for the purpose of prevention in group (crowded) keeping of animals (kennels, shelters, vivariums), treatment is carried out twice with an interval of 14 days: for nematodes once a day, for cestodes and mixed nematode-cestodes infestations once a day. day for 3 consecutive days. A preliminary starvation diet and the use of laxatives before deworming are not required. The bottle of suspension should be shaken thoroughly before each use.

If it gets bad

Although dogs tolerate this medication well, individual intolerance to the drug or the occurrence of side effects cannot be ruled out. This will manifest itself in the form of disruption of the gastrointestinal tract (loose stools, vomiting) and increased salivation.

Such symptoms disappear after a few hours and do not require the use of any additional medications.

Pregnant and lactating

During pregnancy, it is advisable to give Prazicide to dogs only after consultation with a veterinarian. As a rule, these pills are not used in the first half of pregnancy. With caution and under the supervision of a veterinarian, they are prescribed only 3 weeks before birth and 2-3 weeks after.

For puppies

Prazicide should not be used in puppies younger than 3 weeks of age. From the third week you can give the drug at the rate of 1 tablet per 10 kg of weight. That is, if the pet weighs 2-3 kg, then the pill should be divided into 5 or 3 parts, respectively. And give 1/5 or 1/3 of the tablet at a time.

Prazicide complex for dogs and puppies from 10 to 20 kg 2.5 ml

COMPOUND

Prazicide complex in 1 ml contains as active ingredients praziquantel - 102 mg, ivermectin - 24 mg, levamisole - 25 mg and thiame-toxam - 35 mg, as well as excipients: dimethyl sulfoxide, polyethylene glycol, benzyl alcohol.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Prazicide complex refers to combined antiparasitic drugs.

Ivermectin, which is part of the drug, has a wide spectrum of action, is active against the larval and mature phases of development of intestinal nematodes and cestodes, fleas, lice, lice, sarcoptic, demodectic and ixodid ticks that parasitize dogs.

The mechanism of action of the drug ivermectin is a disruption of the transmission of nerve impulses, which leads to paralysis and death of the parasite.

The action of praziquantel is based on inhibition of fumarate reductase, persistent depolarization of muscle cells, disruption of energy metabolism, which causes paralysis and death of helminths.

Levamisole has nematocidal activity and also exhibits immunostimulating properties by increasing the number of T-lymphocytes.

Thiamethoxam is a compound from the group of nicotinoids and has a contact and intestinal insectoacaricidal effect. Being an antagonist of nicotine acetylcholine receptors, it causes hyperpolarization of arthropod nerve fiber membranes, which leads to the death of parasites.

Prazicide-complex, in terms of the degree of impact on the body, is a moderately hazardous substance (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76); when applied to the skin in recommended doses, it does not have a resorptive-toxic, locally irritating, embryotoxic, teratogenic or sensitizing effect. Upon contact with mucous membranes, it causes mild irritation. The drug is toxic to fish and bees.

Prazicide complex should not be used in conjunction with avermectin-containing and other antiparasitic drugs.

INDICATIONS

Prazicide complex is prescribed to adult dogs and cats, puppies and kittens, starting from 2 months of age, for the treatment and prevention of intestinal nematodes, cestodiasis, entomosis, otodectosis, sarcoptic mange, notoedrosis, demodicosis, and to protect animals from attacks by ixodid ticks.

APPLICATION

The drug is applied to the animal’s skin, spreading the fur, to places inaccessible for licking (in the neck at the base of the skull or between the shoulder blades); When treating large animals, the drug is applied to 3–4 places.

Depending on the type and weight of the animal, Prazicide-complex of various packaging is used in the doses indicated in the table.

To treat otodectosis (ear scabies), the drug is applied to the skin once. During the treatment process, it is recommended to clean the ear canal of exudate and scabs, and in case of complications with otitis media, prescribe antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory drugs.

For sarcoptic mange, notoedrosis and demodicosis, the drug is applied with a swab to the affected areas of the body, previously cleared of scabs, from the periphery to the center, covering borderline healthy skin up to 1 cm, in the doses indicated in the table.

Treatment is carried out 2 – 4 times with an interval of 10 – 14 days until the animal’s clinical recovery, which is confirmed by two negative results of acarological studies. Animals with large affected areas are treated in two doses with an interval of 1 day, applying the drug first to one and then to the other half of the affected body surface. To prevent licking of the drug, the animal is put on a cervical collar, a muzzle, or the jaws are closed with a loop of braid, which are removed 20–30 minutes after applying the solution. Treatment is recommended to be carried out comprehensively using pathogenetic and symptomatic agents according to the instructions for their use.

To deworm animals with nematodes and cestodes, the drug is used for therapeutic purposes once, for prophylactic purposes - once a quarter in the doses indicated in the table.

If the next treatment with Prazicide-complex is missed, its use is resumed in the same dosage and according to the same scheme.

PurposeConcentration of active components, mg/ml
PraziquantelPirantelFebantel
For cats and small dogs1,51515
For dogs of medium and large breeds154545

Available in bottles ranging from 5 to 15 ml.

The drug is prescribed for quarterly and pre-vaccination preventive deworming. For cats and small dogs, the drug intended for them is injected into the mouth in an amount of 1 ml/kg of body weight. Large and medium-sized dogs are dosed at 1 ml/kg body weight. For the treatment of nematodes, the drug is re-administered after 2 weeks. For cestodiasis, the suspension is given for 3 days in a row.

Dosage for treatment and prevention

Prazicide in tablet form is used for dogs of any size. 1 tablet is designed for 10 kg of live weight. Therefore, for large breeds, calculating the dosage is very simple. The pills are crushed into powder and mixed with the morning meal. For small dogs, they are broken along the cutting line, and the rest is wrapped in paper, signed and the expiration date indicated.

Prazicide in the form of a suspension is available in three versions. The packages show different pictures and certain numbers are written in large letters:

  • 20 – for puppies of small breeds (1kg – 1ml);
  • 40 – babies of medium and large pets (2 kg – 1 ml);
  • 60 – adult pets (3 kg – 1 ml).

Thanks to the chocolate taste, dogs happily eat the suspension, which the owner pours into their mouths using a measuring syringe without a needle.

Prazicide in the form of drops is also made in several varieties: for dogs weighing less than 5 kg, 5-10 kg, 10-20 kg, 20-30 kg. Using the drug is not difficult. With his left hand, the owner spreads the dog’s fur at the withers, and with his right hand he squeezes the entire contents of the pipette onto the skin. It is not necessary to rub in the medicine.

If the owner finds fleas on the fur or helminths in the feces, the drug is given twice with a break of 10 days. During this period, adult parasites develop from eggs (which are more difficult to destroy). A preventive appointment is carried out once every four months, and also before vaccination injections. In this case, a repeat procedure is not necessary.

Contraindications and side effects

According to the manual, Prazicide is contraindicated in the following categories of dogs:

  • puppies up to three weeks;
  • pregnant and lactating bitches;
  • elderly dogs;
  • weakened animals.

If a dog, in addition to helminthiasis, suffers from an infectious disease, the disease is first completely cured, and only after that the parasites are destroyed.

Allergic reactions to the components of the drug occur extremely rarely. Side effects occur only with an overdose of the drug. In this case, the dog suffers from symptoms of toxic poisoning:

  • lack of appetite;
  • increased salivation;
  • vomiting, diarrhea;
  • weakness, lethargy.

Then you need to bring your pet to a veterinarian, who will detoxify his body.

Precautions and storage

When working with a veterinarian, simple precautions should be followed. During the procedure you should not drink, eat or smoke. After the medicine is given to the animal, you need to wash your hands. People who have increased sensitivity need to be especially careful. Components of the composition may cause an allergic reaction.

During storage, the following conditions must be observed:

  • temperature range from 0 to 25°C;
  • lack of ultraviolet radiation and sun;
  • dry place.

The medication should not be stored near food or feed. Children should not have access to the storage area.

special instructions

In case of an overdose of the drug, the animal may experience a depressed state, refusal to feed, excessive salivation, and gastrointestinal upset. In these cases, enterosorbents and symptomatic therapy are used.

Disturbances in the deworming regimen should be avoided as this may result in decreased effectiveness. If the next dose is missed, the drug must be administered as soon as possible in the same dose, then the interval between administrations of the drug does not change.

High-quality analogues

The Api-San company produces another high-quality anthelmintic - Dirofen. It comes in the form of a viscous suspension that dogs readily accept due to its sweet taste. In addition to the main components - pyrantel and praziquantel, the drug contains pumpkin oil. Thanks to it, a deep cleansing of the intestines occurs in the evening, along with eggs and worms.

The German company Bayer produces the broad-spectrum anthelmintic drug Drontal.

Puppies are given a suspension marked “Junior”, and adult dogs are given meat-flavored tablets. Both medications begin to act on the day of administration due to a complex of components: pyrantel, praziquantel and febantel.

The Russian company Agrovetzashchita has developed a drug against helminths, Febtal Combo. It contains two strong components in equal proportions: praziquantel and albendazole. The medicine has the form of a suspension and is available in five bottle options, with the only difference being the volume of the product.
