Dogs of all breeds are at risk of infestation with helminths. Even if your pet has no contact with stray animals, or due to age, does not yet go for walks, there is a possibility of infection through street dirt from the owner’s shoes.
To avoid complications associated with intestinal invasion, it is necessary to take preventive measures, and one of the means of prevention is the drug “Prasicide”.
Indications
Prazicide is specially developed for dogs and is approved for use in puppies at a very young age. Indications for use are preventive and therapeutic actions for gastrointestinal nematodes. Signs of helminth infection in dogs include:
- disruption of the gastrointestinal tract, namely alternating diarrhea and constipation;
- lethargy, refusal to eat, or vice versa, insatiable appetite;
- tearfulness of the eyes.
Symptoms can appear both together and separately, individually for each puppy. But at the initial stage they have a blurry character.
Small, medium and large breeds
Prazicide suspension for puppies is available in two forms:
- for puppies of small breeds;
- for puppies of medium and large breeds.
The composition of the drugs is identical; it consists of three components that complement each other. But at the same time, the dosages differ several times. The composition option for small breed dogs is as follows:
- pyrantel pamoate - 15 mg/ml;
- febantel - 15 mg/ml;
- praziquantel - 1.5 mg/ml.
And for large ones, the Pyrantel pamoate component already comes in a volume of 45 mg/ml, the same amount of febantel and praziquantel - 15 mg/ml.
It is necessary to select the suspension option according to the size of the puppy’s breed in order to avoid side effects.
Api-San Prazicide Plus for puppies of large and medium breeds suspension 9 ml
PRASICIDE PLUS for medium breed puppies, suspension, 9 ml The suspension is intended for deworming medium breed puppies; the drug can also be used for prevention. It will quickly and effectively rid your pet’s body of parasites. The drug is safe at recommended doses. 1 ml of suspension per 3 kg of animal weight.
Composition and release form: Prazicide-suspension sweet (International nonproprietary name: praziquantel + pyrantel pamoate) is a complex anthelmintic drug containing 15 mg of praziquantel, 45 mg of febantel, 45 mg of pyrantel pamoate as active ingredients in 1 ml, as well as auxiliary components. It is a suspension for oral use. The drug is packaged in 9 ml volumes in polymer bottles with screw caps that are tamper evident along with a dosing syringe and stickers for a veterinary passport, packed in a cardboard box. Pharmacological properties: Prazicide-suspension sweet is a combined drug that has a wide spectrum of activity against all stages of development of round and tapeworms, including Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina, Uncinaria spp., Ancylostoma spp., Trichuris vulpis, Echinococcus granulosus, Echinococcus multilocularis , Mesocestoides lineatus, Diphyllobothrium latum, Dipylidium caninum, Multiceps multiceps, Taenia spp., parasitizing puppies. Praziquantel, which is part of the suspension, increases the permeability of cell membranes to calcium ions and inhibits the parasite enzyme - fumarate reductase, causing spastic muscle contraction, turning into paralysis. The mechanism of action of pyrantel pamoate is to block neuromuscular transmission, disrupt the permeability of cell membranes and inhibit cholinesterase, which leads to paralysis and death of the helminth. When administered orally, praziquantel is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, reaches its maximum concentration in the blood plasma after 1–3 hours, is distributed in the organs and tissues of the animal and is excreted from the body in the form of metabolites in the urine (up to 80%) within 24 hours. Pyrantel pamoate is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, providing a longer parasitocidal effect directly in the intestine, and is excreted from the body mainly unchanged in feces (93%). The drug is easy to use, has a pleasant taste and is quite easily eaten by puppies. In terms of the degree of impact on the body of warm-blooded animals, Prazicide-suspension sweet is classified as a moderately hazardous substance and in recommended doses does not have a locally irritating, sensitizing, teratogenic or embryotoxic effect. Indications: Prescribed for preventive and therapeutic deworming of puppies of medium and large breeds against nematodes and cestodes, including mixed infestations. Doses and method of administration: Sweet Prazicide suspension is given to puppies orally once individually in the morning feeding with a small amount of food or administered directly to the root of the tongue using a dispenser syringe at the rate of 1 ml of suspension per 3 kg of body weight. Before use, the bottle of suspension must be shaken thoroughly for 1–2 minutes. A preliminary fasting diet and the use of laxatives when using the drug are not required. For preventive purposes, deworming is carried out once every 3 months, as well as before each vaccination. Therapeutic measures against nematodes and cestodes are carried out according to indications. With a strong degree of invasion, the suspension is given again after 10 days. Side effects: In rare cases, allergic reactions are possible in animals sensitive to the components of the drug. In these cases, animals are given symptomatic therapy and prescribed antihistamines in accordance with the instructions for use. With a significant overdose of the drug, animals may experience a depressed state, refusal to feed, excessive salivation, and disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. In these cases, detoxification therapy is carried out. Contraindications: Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug. It is not recommended to deworm puppies younger than 3 weeks of age, as well as those with infectious diseases, convalescent or malnourished animals. Do not prescribe the suspension simultaneously with piperazine derivatives and other drugs that inhibit cholinesterase. Special instructions: When using the drug in strict accordance with these instructions, no special instructions are required. Storage conditions: In a dry place, protected from direct sunlight and out of reach of children and animals. Separated from food and feed in the manufacturer's packaging at a temperature of 0 to 25 ºС. Shelf life: 2 years.

Prazicide suspension Plus for adult dogs, puppies of medium and large breeds – 1 ml per 3 kg of animal weight
Prazicide suspension Plus for adult cats, kittens and puppies of small breeds - 1 ml per 1 kg of animal weight.
For preventive purposes, deworming of animals is carried out once a quarter, as well as before each vaccination.
For therapeutic purposes, as well as for the purpose of prevention in group (crowded) keeping of animals (kennels, shelters, vivariums), treatment is carried out twice with an interval of 14 days: for nematodes once a day, for cestodes and mixed nematode-cestodes infestations once a day. day for 3 consecutive days.
A preliminary starvation diet and the use of laxatives before deworming are not required. The bottle of suspension should be shaken thoroughly before each use.
Overdose
In case of an overdose of the drug, puppies may experience lethargy, depression, decreased appetite, disruption of the gastrointestinal tract (diarrhea, vomiting), as well as increased salivation. If severe symptoms persist, it is recommended to stop taking the drug and give the dog antihistamines.
The use of enterosorbents is acceptable. If more than a day has passed since you stopped taking it and there is no noticeable positive dynamics, you should urgently contact a specialist. Since individual intolerance to the drug is possible.
Reviews
Owners
“I have a Dogo Argentino kennel, large litters and several times a year. It is very convenient to use this drug. I especially like that it is made in the form of a suspension. It can be easily divided into portions specific to each puppy’s weight.”
“I picked up a puppy on the street. Naturally, he ate anything and it was probably his first deworming in his life. I first saw long and thin worms after going to the toilet. This means the drug really works.”
“When it came time to worm our dachshund before vaccination, I chose the drug Prazicide Suspension. Before this I used tablets exclusively. The suspension itself is yellowish in color and not particularly pleasant to the taste. At least the dog was categorically against swallowing it.
As a result, it turned out to be poured not on the root of the tongue, but on the very tip. After some time, a lot of drool appeared, which is not typical for the breed. It may work for others, but we will look for pills.”
Veterinarians
“I have been using this drug for a long time, and as a rule, animals tolerate it well. It is extremely rare in practice that I have encountered an allergic reaction to components.”
“In any case, it is necessary to monitor the activity and general condition after taking the medicine during the first day and, if anything happens, immediately contact a specialist.”

Prazicide suspension Plus should be stored out of the reach of children. 7. Unused drug is disposed of in accordance with legal requirements. 8. Dispensing conditions: without a veterinarian's prescription. Pharm. St.: 9. Prazicide-suspension Plus refers to combined anthelmintic drugs. The combination of praziquantel, febantel and pyrantel pamoate, which are part of the drug, provides a wide spectrum of its anthelmintic effect on gastrointestinal nematodes (Toxocara canis, Toxocara cati, Toxocara mistax, Toxascaris leonina, Uncinaria stenocephala, Trichuris vulpis, Ancylostoma caninum) and cestodes (Echinococcus granulosus, Alveococсus multilocularis, Mesocestoides lineatus, Dipylidium caninum, Diphyllobotrium latum, Multiceps multiceps), parasitic in dogs and cats. 10. Pyrantel pamoate is a compound of the pyrimidine group, its mechanism of action is based on blocking the transmission of nerve impulses at neuromuscular synapses by depolarizing the membranes of muscle cells, which causes paralysis of the muscular system of nematodes; pyrantel is poorly absorbed, which ensures its prolonged effect on helminths in the intestines; excreted from the body mainly unchanged (93%) in feces. Praziquantel is a compound of the pyrazinisoquinoline group, active against gastrointestinal cestodes at all phases of development. By increasing the permeability of the parasite's cell membranes to calcium ions (Ca2+), it causes membrane depolarization, muscle contraction and tegument destruction, which leads to the death of helminths and promotes their elimination from the animal's body. The compound is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, reaching a maximum concentration in the blood plasma after 1–3 hours, reversibly binds to serum proteins (70–80%), is partially metabolized in the liver, re-excreted into the intestine, and excreted from the body mainly in the urine. (up to 80%) within 24 hours. Febantel belongs to probenzimidazoles, which are biotransformed in the body into benzimidazoles. The mechanism of action of febantel is based on inhibition of the fumarate reductase enzyme in the mitochondria of helminths, as a result of which the absorption of glucose and the synthesis of the protein tubulin are disrupted, which leads to the destruction of the microtubular apparatus of the parasite cells, causing its death. Febantel is absorbed in the intestine, metabolized in the liver and excreted with bile into the intestinal lumen, where its repeated resorption is partially noted, and is excreted from the body both in unchanged form and in the form of several metabolites in feces and urine. Prazicide-suspension Plus, in terms of the degree of impact on the body, is classified as a low-hazard substance (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), in recommended doses it does not have embryotoxic, teratogenic or sensitizing effects, and is well tolerated by dogs and cats of different breeds and ages. Directions for use: 11. Prazicide suspension Plus is prescribed to adult dogs and cats, puppies and kittens from 3 weeks of age for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes for gastrointestinal nematodes (toxocariasis, toxascariasis, uncinariasis, trichocephalosis, hookworm infection), cestodiasis (taeniosis, dipylidiasis , echinococcosis, diphyllobothriasis, mesocestoidosis) and mixed nematodo-cestodiasis invasions. 12. Contraindication for use is individual intolerance to the components of the drug (including a history of it). Prazicide suspension Plus should not be used by debilitated animals, patients with infectious diseases or convalescent animals, females in the first half of pregnancy, puppies and kittens under 3 weeks of age. 13. 14. In case of an overdose of the drug, the animal may experience a depressed state, refusal to feed, excessive salivation, and gastrointestinal upset. In these cases, enterosorbents and symptomatic therapy are used. 15. When using the drug for the first time in cats, self-limiting hypersalivation is possible. 16. If necessary, deworming of pregnant and lactating females is carried out under the supervision of a veterinarian 3 weeks before the expected birth and 2 - 3 weeks after birth. 17. Disruption of the deworming regimen should be avoided as this may lead to reduced effectiveness. If the next dose is missed, the drug must be administered as soon as possible in the same dose, then the interval between administrations of the drug does not change. 18. When using Prazicide-suspension Plus in accordance with these instructions, side effects and complications in animals, as a rule, are not observed. Some animals may experience disturbances in the gastrointestinal tract (loose stools, vomiting) and increased salivation, which disappear spontaneously and do not require the use of medications. In case of increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug and the appearance of allergic reactions, its use is stopped and the animal is prescribed antihistamines and symptomatic therapy. 19.
