What are the dangers of the New Year for a dog?
Veterinarians who are on duty on the eve of the New Year holidays are especially prepared. After all, it is on these days that they are visited more often. Dog owners often turn to veterinary clinics. Animals have to be treated for various misfortunes - from banal overeating to serious poisoning.
Often the reason for visiting a veterinarian during the New Year holidays is intestinal blockage, injury, stress and hypothermia. The owners do not take this seriously, but even the most obedient dog is capable of deviating from the rules and swallowing dishes from the holiday table that were not intended for him.
New Year's chaos for dogs and cats is nothing more than real stress. After all, the usual way of life is changing dramatically. There are aromatic dishes on the table, and on the main green beauty there are many shiny and rustling objects inviting you to taste them.
Veterinarians often treat animals for indigestion associated with the abundance of smoked meats and various marinades, stolen or offered by the owners themselves. This also includes poisoning from chocolate candies, intestinal blockages and obstructions from bottle caps with alcohol, tinsel and confetti.
Electrical garlands are especially dangerous. If an animal becomes entangled in them, it will not only drag down the festive interior, but may also receive an electric shock.
The main task of a dog owner is to ensure the safety of the animal. It is better to install a decorated Christmas tree on a hill, but only if there is no cat in the house besides a dog. It is also necessary to decorate the Christmas tree correctly, trying to place garlands, tinsel and Christmas tree decorations out of reach of the animal. It is advisable to immediately remove packaging from gifts that are planned to be opened on the spot.
The greatest danger to the life of an animal, of course, comes from various delicacies from the human table. Especially chocolate and chocolate candies. They can cause serious poisoning in a dog or lead to dangerous inflammatory processes in the pancreas.
Unlike cats, dogs are not so picky about food, so you should be wary of the holiday table. Even a well-fed dog will try to steal a tasty morsel. It’s impossible to believe, but a large dog can drag a whole chicken off the table, and some can even swallow it. Naturally, such a treat can only be obtained through surgical intervention. For pets, the following products are dangerous:
- fried foods;
- smoked meats and marinades;
- dishes with lots of garlic and onions;
- foods rich in nuts and sweeteners.
All these products, one way or another, are present on the New Year's table at the owners. Their consumption by animals can lead not only to inflammation, but also become a factor provoking kidney failure.
An abundance of guests in the house during the holidays is stressful for the animal. The danger of a dog jumping out of an open window or running into doors opened by guests is unlikely, but other invariable attributes of the celebration - fireworks and fireworks - can cause serious nervous strain in your pet. In fear, the dog is able to run out anywhere, break off the leash, trying to leave the place where loud shots are heard.
Before guests arrive and the festive table is set, the animal must be well-fed. It doesn’t matter what kind of food she eats - dry granulated food or natural food.
All guests coming to the house must be notified that the animal cannot be fed. It is necessary to explain to guests that spicy, fried and smoked foods can cause liver damage in animals, lead to inflammation of the pancreas or poisoning.
There should be strict supervision of small children who try to treat the dog with a bone. Long bones from chicken, turkey or duck are especially dangerous for a dog’s health. When chewed, they break into sharp pieces that can cause injury or rupture of the intestines.

Poisoning can be caused by alcohol. Often, already at the end of the holiday, being tipsy, guests attempt to give the dog alcohol. Even a small dose of alcohol can cause serious intoxication, which the animal’s body cannot always cope with.

If the dog is not large in size or is considered decorative, it is necessary to take care in advance of constructing some kind of enclosure. In one of the rooms in the apartment you can put a bowl for water and food, lay out a warm blanket or bed, thus isolating the animal. This will avoid stress for your pet and prevent possible overeating or poisoning.

Porridge for Dzhekushka (option 2)
You can prepare porridge by mixing all the ingredients at once. But lately I prefer not to mix cooked foods, but cook as follows.
Ingredients:
- beef trimmings (approximately 1 - 1.3 kg).
- half a glass of rice.
- carrot.
- zucchini
- pumpkin.
- fresh cucumber.
- bell pepper
- Greens (dill, parsley, lettuce).
- vegetable or flaxseed oil, fish oil.
Preparation:
1. I take beef trimmings.
2. Pour water into the pan and bring it to a boil. To preserve as many vitamins as possible in the meat, I put it in boiling water. After the meat boils, boil it for 20 minutes.
3. While the meat is cooking, I also boil the rice in a separate saucepan.
4. When the meat is cooked, I put it in a separate container. I also pour the broth into a separate container. I store everything in the refrigerator in these same containers.
5. Immediately before feeding Jackusik, I take everything out of the refrigerator. I cut the meat into Dzhekushkin’s bowl, add a tablespoon of boiled cereal, fresh vegetables and herbs.
Do not forget that meat should be approximately 50-60% of the serving, 10-15% cereal, and the rest vegetables.
I do everything roughly by eye.
6. To prevent the porridge from turning out dry, add broth (until it reaches the consistency of sour cream).
7. Mix everything well and warm it to room temperature (even a little warmer).
8. Immediately before giving Jackusik the porridge, I add a few drops of fish oil to it.
Lately, this is exactly how I cook porridge. Yes, it seems to me even better!
With a natural diet, the daily amount of food consumed by the dog should be approximately 6-8% of the dog's weight. For example, if your pet weighs 7 kilograms, then the daily amount of food consumed will be approximately 420-560 grams of food per day.
That is, if you feed your pet twice a day, then the amount of a single serving will be about 220-270 grams.
You must determine the serving quantity yourself, based on your age and level of physical activity. Appetite can be influenced by many factors. For example, in the summer, when it’s hot, dogs eat much less than in the cold season.
For dogs leading a passive lifestyle, 6% is enough, while hyperactive dogs will need about 8%.
